Luce587 got a reaction from kedasmom in Why is everyone converting from band to sleeve?
I had my band surgery in November 2012. It was great to start with, and I had great restriction and good weight loss, but upset my gallbladder. I was having sometimes daily attacks and we didn't know what was going on. I thought I was experiencing a "stuck" moment, but after 9 months of back and forth for fills and unfills and my surgeon not really sure what was going on his associate sent me for an ultrasound. It showed so many stones... i was scheduled for its removal and had to have all my fill out for the op.
And that was where my weightloss started to stall. In the 2 years after that I've lost only 10kg and struggle with being too restricted or not restricted enough. I'm just tired of not losing my weight and that the band isn't really working for me the way it should.
I'm looking into getting a band to sleeve revision in January 2017.

Thanks everyone! Surgery was a little longer than expected due to some scar tissue built up over my band. I came out bandless and sleeved!
My pain is manageable and I've been up and showered and had two walks around the ward with my sister. I'm on a self-administered pain pump which is great when I remember to press the button.
My Breakfast tray was whisked away when I was in the shower, but a nurse found me a sustagen to sip on. Water has been painful, but adding cordial to it has made it fine.

Luce587 got a reaction from RavenDW17 in Revision from Lap Band to Sleeve
Hi! I'm 3 weeks post revision band to sleeve. My surgeon was able to remove my band and give me a sleeve in the one operation. The surgery itself took longer than expected as my band had quite a bit of scar tissue around the band and a pouch. Thankfully she was able to perform the sleeve.
Recovery wise, I've had a lot of nausea. I stayed an extra night in hospital to get it under control, but still get some rolling nausea now. It's getting better every day- I'm just one of the unlucky ones. I have no interest in food- in fact, I have to set an alarm on my phone to remind me to eat.
Pain was managable- I kept up my meds until the prescribed ones were gone (mainly used at night) and took paracetamol to assist with pain and inflammation. I'd say it was a little more uncomfortable than the band, but still managable. I took 4 weeks off work and go back Monday.
My scars are healing beautifully and I'm down 20 pounds from pre-op.

I had started my journey at 540 pounds. I was so overweight I needed oxygen all the time because I couldn't breathe properly.
When I had surgery in May of 2016 I was 480 pounds.
    Today (February 8, 2017) I am 319!!
I can't wait to reach the 200's and then the 100's!
    Here are some comparison pics!

I'm one month post-op and I'm thrilled with the results thus far.
    HW: 324
    SW: 297
    CW: 270
    Total weight lost: 54 lbs!
    Lost since surgery: 27 lbs!
Here I am two days before starting the pre-surgery diet weighing in at 324 (I was down to 314 only two weeks before this was taken, but I gorged on all of my favorite foods in those last two weeks).

I was just cleared from my 10lb lifting restriction and started P90X this morning. To prevent injury, I'm easing in to it for the first few weeks until I get my endurance and strength up to where I can really push it. I've done the program a few times in the past and have been very successful, but the weight came right back on as soon as I stopped, and then some. That's how I ratcheted up to 324 lbs. The surgery is going to help me keep it off.

    Inches lost:
    Chest: 6 inches
    Belly: 7 inches
    Waist: 7.25 inches
    Butt: 7.5 inches
    Thighs: 1.75 inches each

I also have had quite a few abdominal surgeries... I had my surgery a week ago and it was successfully done laprascopically. Because I had a band to be removed I have 2 2inch incisions and 3 tiny incisions. Healing well and the extra scars simply show an adventurous journey! I don't mind them at all. Best of luck!

shakes don't sit well with me either... I'm trying out a lactose free version as I'm thinking it might be too much milk Protein that is giving me grief. eggs haven't been a problem thankfully! My surgeon and dietician aren't happy I'm not supplementing with a protein powder...

    Well, 3 months + 1 week
I can feel the beginning of carb/sweets cravings. I've gotta get this in check asap.
So I decided to cut and paste my "before" and "now" pics side by side. I may need to tape this to my fridge. Unlike many, I've felt hunger, real hunger from very early on. I seemed to heal quickly and have had absolutely zero intolerances. I'm quickly finding out that I like sweet stuff way too much. Thought I had more control than this. No regrets, but no illusions either, this is going to be work for the rest of my life, sigh.
For now I'll take solace in each little victory. I've been telling my husband I don't think I look all that different, but the side by side pics are an eye opener and good for continued motivation.

Luce587 got a reaction from TXJess in When were you able to drink a glass of water?
I know exactly how you feel... Water hurts!!
I've been flavouring mine with lemon, orange or lime cordial (not sure what the US calls it) but get sick of the sweet flavour.
Yesterday I cut a fresh lime into wedges and that helped immensely. I was able to consume 700ml of Water in just under an hour whilst waiting for a blood test.
A nurse told me that adding cordial etc changes the pH of the water and makes it easier to digest.
    Hope that helps!

These two people have very different lives, the one on the left hated Mondays because he had to go to work and didn't feel well because he only had 3 hours of sleep due to the fact his sleep apnea tried to kill him every night. The one on the right cannot wait to wake up after a great night sleep, to get to the gym and sculpt his guns.

I just wanted to say this to give hope. That it was awful the first couple days but I'm feeling better. And I feel more confident that things can be great.
