You might reconcider drinking alcohol as I've heard it causes ulcers and our stomachs are small enough to do some damage.

I now know that I should have been pulled from my BP meds first, because I was having very low BP before long after the surgery. I should have got a wrist BP cuff before my surgery. We had two arm ones that were left over after my dad passed, but those take two people... I asked his doctors about the wrist cuffs and they said that those were not as good, yet the next visit that's what they were using.
I was taking a lot of Rx. Cholesterol and BP were 'prophylactic' just to ward it off... They dropped the cholesterol pill first. But, I left the hospital taking all my meds.
I guess we're all different, but I should have been more proactive. I know my body better than they do. I knew I wasn't feeling good. It took 3 months before I did so. I started dropping meds as it made sense to me.
As an aside. I'd never been drunk, ever. I've got nothing against drinking, I just never felt the need. But, the few times I'd have a margarita or 4, I'd still be sober. Now two swallow of tequila or rye and I'm practically falling down drunk... I ought to keep it by my bed have two swallows and go to sleep very easily. Hah.

It's been over a year, but I put mine in sugar-free cranberry cocktail. Just a shot glass... It was horrible, but I recently discovered there was one pill (gabapentin) that made it awful.
I'm off of all meds now, just Vitamins and supplements. Gabapentin was the last one to go, and I bit into the capsule and found out it was awful.
All the others I've chewed before no problem. I took a lot. My surgeon didn't expect me to get off of all meds. At my one year follow up with him I think he was more pleased than I was (I'd had time to get used to the idea)

    BigBuc,
You're not suppose to drink so close to before eating because the fluids fill you up and you won't be able to eat as much. After eating, the Fluid will wash solid food into your intestines too quickly.
I'm doing pretty well especially since I resolved a couple of issues. I was having problems with too much air in my stomach. As soon as I quit taking the acid reducer that stopped happening. I was also having a real problem with daily diarrhea. Low and behold, I'm now lactose intolerant. Cut out my morning half and half and now I'm fine. cheese doesn't seem to bother me. That also helps me to not eat my favorite slider food - ice cream!

i'll be having my surgery with dr. sherrod from southwest bariatrics. he seems very nice and i've found that he really listens to what you have to say rather than giving you canned answers.
i've got a very high bmi so i've had to have quite a few pre-op tests (sleep study, ekg, echochardiogram, exercise, nutrition, and blood work) so i've been just sort of plugging away getting things done. i just finished the last of them on friday, so i'm just waiting for the results to make it to dr. sherrod so i can schedule my very last pre-op appt. with him and schedule this dang thing!

    dear one,
I want to reply as I am also severely limited...and much older than you...I will be 73 on april 29, 2014. and, drum roll please...I will have my gastric bypass april 15, 2014!!!!!!!! just about one and one half days left. we live out in the woods near Fairbanks, Alaska, and have driven 800 miles round trip to anchorage, Alaska, for my surgery. that means a rental car and two weeks in a motel, minimum.
I am almost totally bedbound and rarely leave the house. my hope, and for sure prayer, is that this surgery will eliminate hi blood pressure, diabetes, and 110 pounds. I also have fibromyalgia, low thyroid, scoliosis, sciatica on both sides, arthritis, and just found out a portion of my spine has spontaneously fused and I have cysts all up and down my spine. I was also informed a year ago, after believing for 12 years that I had it, that I do not have ms. the neurologist, however, cannot figure out why I have scars on my brain, my brain has atrophied more than my age warrants, why I have excess spinal Fluid around my brain, and dark holes in the brain tissue. I have now done my own research and found all of the above brain issues, except for the scarring, are attributable to low Vitamin B12. I'm now taking that. Scarring may yet prove to be ms.
I am also hoping the surgery and weight loss will give me back my ability to walk. either better with my walker or without it at all.
excuse my nonuse of capital letters. I am on my side in bed, typing with one finger. when I am able, I am at my desk where I write in a more formal manner...four fingers and two thumbs. I am currently in the process of writing a children's book and also writing my autobiography. I am hoping to finish both books in the next three months or so.
I will finish now as I must rest...not sure if I will sleep. my sweet husband will wake me at 8 a m for my final pre op Breakfast, then final trip to the doctor's office, bowel cleanse tomorrow afternoon/evening, then off to surgery on the 15th.
    be encouraged...we will both improve!!!
    blessings,
Karen in the snowy woods of alaska

BigBuc got a reaction from Gripp in 2 months 2 weeks post op. Felt bad this morning. Blood sugar
Spent a couple of nights in the hospital. Home now. Feeling ok. Tired but ok. Sodium is good. My symptoms were like low blood sugar to me. Not much to do to improve my sodium except get an IV.
Oh. Told me to cut back on water! I've been working hard at drinking lots of Water. Now 6 eight ounce cups per day. No more than that. Geesh. Said that may have been washing out the sodium. Gah!
In the hospital for Breakfast this morning I had a biscuit, eggs and two pieces of bacon. I ate all the bacon and most of the biscuit and half the eggs. So there... I gained 2.4 lbs in hospital... But finally had a movement when I got home and lost half that... Heh. My weight seems to fluctuate 5 lbs some days anyway. I started using two scales just to check them against each other... So my numbers are fairly reliable.

I LOVED my psych evaluation. I'm a therapist so I walked in thinking she couldn't tell me anything new. I was soooo wrong! She asked questions about my history as a child related to my weight, my support system, family history, etc. I actually realized that, although family was present, they weren't very supportive at all. My evaluation was very eye opening. I will go back after the surgery, I'm sure! Dawnie_doo
