I've been taking sublingual once weekly but it's still high. so I stopped. surgeon didn't seemed concerned. annual physical in a couple of weeks. I'm getting greater than 2000. so may be some thing else. or just residual of the last weekly sublingual pill. hopefully. I'd really be disgusted if after all of this to have leukemia or something. 58 yo, gb/RNY opp 04/11/16. diabetic remission, high blood pressure is now good, cholesterol is now good, weight is excellent. could gain about 10 lbs (who'd have thunk?) down about 200 lbs. 58 year old male.

How will I take my pills?

I now know that I should have been pulled from my BP meds first, because I was having very low BP before long after the surgery. I should have got a wrist BP cuff before my surgery. We had two arm ones that were left over after my dad passed, but those take two people... I asked his doctors about the wrist cuffs and they said that those were not as good, yet the next visit that's what they were using. I was taking a lot of Rx. Cholesterol and BP were 'prophylactic' just to ward it off... They dropped the cholesterol pill first. But, I left the hospital taking all my meds. I guess we're all different, but I should have been more proactive. I know my body better than they do. I knew I wasn't feeling good. It took 3 months before I did so. I started dropping meds as it made sense to me. As an aside. I'd never been drunk, ever. I've got nothing against drinking, I just never felt the need. But, the few times I'd have a margarita or 4, I'd still be sober. Now two swallow of tequila or rye and I'm practically falling down drunk... I ought to keep it by my bed have two swallows and go to sleep very easily. Hah.

How will I take my pills?

It's been over a year, but I put mine in sugar-free cranberry cocktail. Just a shot glass... It was horrible, but I recently discovered there was one pill (gabapentin) that made it awful. I'm off of all meds now, just vitamins and supplements. Gabapentin was the last one to go, and I bit into the capsule and found out it was awful. All the others I've chewed before no problem. I took a lot. My surgeon didn't expect me to get off of all meds. At my one year follow up with him I think he was more pleased than I was (I'd had time to get used to the idea)

    Paula Green 042017

I'm 57. A little more than a year post gb/rny. I stall all the time. I'm 150 down. I bounce 4 lbs in a single day, but this past month I've been about the same but I know I'm generally losing because it's generally going down. Maybe I don't eat more than 1500 calories a day, so now when I lose 1 lbs it's a bigger percentage than it was 150 lbs ago. Give your body some time to adjust. Mine was all out of whack for three months. Too many old meds I used to take weren't helping. I take nothing now. Diabetes shots and pills, cholesterol, blood pressure - - all gone. That was my main objective. I didn't care if I lost a pound, just a fringe benefit. I also had a bout of low sodium, at the time the hospital doc said it was from drinking too much water. But I was dehydrated a few weeks before that. Body was just adjusting.

    DR. Sherrod, Mark

Dr. Sherrod did my gb/RNY April 11,2016. I'm happy. HE'S happy. I'm 57,diabetic, lost about 150 lbs and off ALL Rx except occasionally a half of restless leg pill. Which Dr Sherrod didn't expect due to my age, how long I'd been on lantus injections, and on some diabetic Rx for almost 20 years and lifelong fat boy. GP recommended the sleeve, Dr Sherrod recommended the GB/RNY. that's what I had. I live about 100 miles west and north of the hospital (St David's, where I was born). Only complaint is i woke up from the surgery and my tailbone/butt hurt. Still does if i sit long. They put pillows under me, but it's 54 weeks later and still hurts. I don't want to dwell on that. My belly itched for a couple of months. Does anyone remember WHY we're not supposed to drink 5 minutes before and 30-45 minutes after a meal? I asked the nurse once and she said to avoid dumping syndrome, which I've never had... If anything I'm plugged up. I'm happy with Dr Sherrod.
  7. It's 'some' side effect of the surgery. I'm about 54 weeks post gb/rny. It lasted a few months for me. My gp just said it was the hair growing back. He's usually wrong but dismissive to make up for it. I'm a hairy guy. Nope months later I remembered to ask the nurse during a follow up with the surgeon and she said they told me that it was a possibility post op... I don't think they did. It did go away. I scrubbed with a good brush during my showers... Only times I was satisfied about the itching.
  8. Spent a couple of nights in the hospital. Home now. Feeling ok. Tired but ok. Sodium is good. My symptoms were like low blood sugar to me. Not much to do to improve my sodium except get an IV. Oh. Told me to cut back on water! I've been working hard at drinking lots of Water. Now 6 eight ounce cups per day. No more than that. Geesh. Said that may have been washing out the sodium. Gah! In the hospital for Breakfast this morning I had a biscuit, eggs and two pieces of bacon. I ate all the bacon and most of the biscuit and half the eggs. So there... I gained 2.4 lbs in hospital... But finally had a movement when I got home and lost half that... Heh. My weight seems to fluctuate 5 lbs some days anyway. I started using two scales just to check them against each other... So my numbers are fairly reliable. Sent from my XT1575 using the BariatricPal App
  9. Blood sugar was 120. Dizzy dry heaves. Had appt for prep for carpal tunnel 50 miles away. They didn't want to see me because I looked bad. Hospital was next door. Nurse wheeled me over. After blood tests seems much sodium was almost low enough to cause seizures. I was admitted. Sitting her now. Tired but feeling better. Hospital food has increased my blood sugar... Oh. Much BP was 65 over 55... They blamed the sodium. More answers tomorrow Sent from my XT1575 using the BariatricPal App

  11. I LOVED my psych evaluation. I'm a therapist so I walked in thinking she couldn't tell me anything new. I was soooo wrong! She asked questions about my history as a child related to my weight, my support system, family history, etc. I actually realized that, although family was present, they weren't very supportive at all. My evaluation was very eye opening. I will go back after the surgery, I'm sure! Dawnie_doo I'm not a therapist, but I enjoyed mine too, aside from the 450+ multiple guess quiz. The final written result was exactly what I'd said about myself. Hah... I'm old enough to know myself I guess. Sent from my XT1575 using the BariatricPal App

    Pureed Foods

  13. I've been doing about 40 oz a day yet I'm officially dehydrated, according to the doc. I am 14 days post-op. I've tried some pureed and strained cream Soups, but I've felt nauseous most of the time. I went back to broth with some Protein powder. Today, my gp said to quit metformin, as it can make you nauseated. Oh, I hope that's it. I've felt too dizzy, weak, and nauseous to do much walking. So a downward spiral I guess. Not eating much. The forums here reminded me of Popsicles which we have in the freezer. sugar free, of course, been crunching those. No real cravings. Enjoy others eating and helping them decide what to eat. Oddly, the only craving I had was a few days ago for a plain salami sandwich. White bread, mustard and Oscar Meyer salami. Nothing fancy. And I usually don't eat those but about every three or four years. Hah. Got my metformin out of the mix tonight, got a decent amount of Water and flavored Vitamin water today. I'm down about 22 lbs, but hasn't moved much in several days. I'm 56 years old at 322 lbs now. Sent from my XT1575 using the BariatricPal App

    Pre op liquid diet?

Mine is just <40g carbs daily for two weeks... Day before Clear Liquids. I'm an old school atkins believer. <20g,i always did 15g figuring I'd get 5g in trace carbs. I've been doing my usual atkins, I don't know if I can do 40g! Hah... My surgery date is 4/11, just one week away Sent from my XT1575 using the BariatricPal App
  17. My gp is an idiot. Ex-army doc, about 15-20 years my junior. He was who I used during my 6 month weight loss /exercise plan required by insurance. That was cheaper than anything else. I live in the high Hill Country of Texas, 30 miles from the doc. He made everything more difficult than necessary. The daily caloric amount and the exercise... Heck, I had two months without losing a pound. I lost a total of 30 lbs in 6 months. I completed the six months at Christmas. After that I gained 20 lbs, because I'm a fat person... Then I needed to lose that 20. Unsupervised I lost it in about a week using my tried and true method... I can lose weight like crazy... Can't keep it off. Anyway, my gp wanted do treat me like boot camp I think... The printed diet he gave me had UNLIMITED KETCHUP! Sent from my XT1575 using the BariatricPal App

    Liquid diet begins....

Tried caffeine? 50 years ago my grandfather had stage 4,terminal cancer. He said the worst pain was his headaches... They'd taken away his coffee... Got home before the end, had a cup and his headache vanished. Just a thought. Sent from my XT1575 using the BariatricPal App
  20. After I spoke with the therapist I had to answer a written multiple choice questionnaire. Over 450 questions! One I remember is "do you feel like you are being tested?" I'm thinking, "well, aren't I?" In the end, she wrote her diagnosis which was exactly what I said about myself... I guess I know myself pretty well. If I didn't live 100 miles from anywhere, I'd have enjoyed it. But driving 4 hours round trip kind of took any fun out of it... One week until my surgery still... 21. I'm talking out of turn because I'm a week Pre-op. Has anyone tried coconut oil? External use. Rub on your armpits, groin, wherever the odors seem to be emanating from. It's thick like butter but melts super fast. I get it at costco. Two big jars, organic, $20. It will liquefy with the least heat... Just a thought. Sent from my XT1575 using the BariatricPal App

Going in for surgery April 11, 2016. This is my first post so forgive any faux pas Sent from my XT1575 using the BariatricPal App
