Band Slippage
medial is towards the middle of the body, distal is farther away, anterior is front, posterior is back, inferior is below, superior above. Hope that helps!!

Cover and support belly&band when exercising
I have only been banded less than a month, but I can already see the need for a supportive garment. Surgical garments look very promising! I did a quick search and found this web site, they have bariatric garments. Often they are crotchless so that you can go to the bathroom without taking everything off. bariatric garments

PSY Eval.!!
I dont know why an MMPI would be administered. Usually psych evals need to evaluate if you understand the risks and benefits, how compliant you are likely to be with follow up directions and care, and how good your support network is should something go wrong. The reason it is required is because unfortunately there are a lot of people that meet criteria from a BMI perspective but are unable/unwilling to comprehend that band is a lifetime commitment with long term changes required. Insurance companies do not want to pay for a surgery likely to fail. That being said, I am self pay and I still had to get a psych eval done. Mine was simple, but he did ask questions like was I picked on a lot as a kid.

Conversations you hear sitting in your doc's waiting room
they are only punishing themselves! you can smile smugly when you are sitting in the waiting room with a normal BMI!

so jealous at lunch today
i had my first meal with friends today- they all heaped their plates with yummy smelling food and I had my spoonful of chicken salad, spoonful of cottage cheese, and half an egg. I am still on mushy phase- everyone commented on my small lunch, and I know that nothing on their plates could possibly taste as good as putting on size 4 jeans, but still- I had pangs of jealousy!

Chewing gum?
I was told that if you swallow it, it can cause an obstruction. I do believe there are a few posts on here to that effect... Gum can block your stoma and does not easily break down- at this point I am too afraid to chew it!

Egads! I Have Ketosis!!!!
you will not go into ketosis if you have some carbs. i dont know what you can tolerate but whole grains, fruits, and vegetables are good. (complex carbohydrates) I like oatmeal/cream of wheat. I also put milk in bran flakes and let it sit till it is nice and mushy (i am in the pureed phase) the safety of diets that cause ketosis is very controversial. there are sticks you can buy to check your urine for ketones if you want to be sure that ketosis is the etiology of your bad breath.

in pain ouchie!
I have milk o' mag, mag citrate, mineral oil (enema and oral), miralax, and senna. I also eat a bunch of fiber! (I even put Fiber in my jello!) I think I will just have to wait it out so to speak. but on a brighter note I bet there are a few pounds in there just waiting to drop off the scale!

Kink in Tubing
I have heard of it- for this reason I asked my Doc if he would trim the tubing... he said he would and then I read the op report and he didn't. What a shame that that happened- it is supposed to be kink resistant!! Kudos to you for losing 50#!!!

Fiber supplements?
psyllium is metamucil and does thicken miralax is not fiber it is an osmotic laxative there are other fibers you can try including wheat dextran (benefiber i believe) I am having a lot of trouble, but i wouldnt recommend taking a laxatives daily as you can become dependent on them to evacuate. good luck, i hope everything comes out okay.

question about transition
*i posted this in another place but copied it here* Hi All- I am three weeks post op and on my mushy phase. I didnt get enough Protein today plus I have not had a real BM since my procedure. This led to me eat tuna fish tonight (fish was on my list of approved mushy food) I believe I ate about 3 oz. I am in pain right now and terrified that I have stressed the sutures holding my band in place. Anyone else have any troubles transitioning to mushies?

uh oh!
my boyfriend bought a bag of pretzels (i begged him not to) well I am on the mushies stage and he left them on the table- before I knew it I had one in my mouth- sucked on it until it melted to nothing before i swallowed it... no pain or anything so what do i do??? I ate another!! I got so irritated with myself I took the bag and put it next to him where he is sleeping... My question is- does near liquid pretzel count as a mushy? I know saltines can- still no pain or anything so I think I am okay... but dont think I should eat any more pretzels... they have no nutritional value anyway!!
