  1. They told me that if I had a doctor's card they would have let me but b/c I did not they wouldnt accomodate me.
  2. I went to a mongolian BBQ the other day- buffet only- I asked if I could order off of the children's menu, and my waitress refused. I dont have a courtesy card (my doc's office didnt give me one) but i did offer to show her my scars or feel my port (she oddly refused this as well). I think I am just going to make my own card to have in the future. I am not going back there again!
  3. what a great post- thank you!
  4. I fly (only single engine cessna)- the pressure difference at altitude is not as marked as under water. I have a dive computer, there have def been times when I ascended too fast- even if it was for just 10 feet.
  5. that stuff was God-Awful! I chugged the whole thing at once. HORRID! Stay near the twalet!
  6. usually medical devices are made from titanium which is a more inert metal
  7. i cant believe a doc would put 7cc in a band during the operation- that boggles my mind! at least you have a head start- I got my first fill today- 3.5cc. My doc said I could eat mushies. I think I am feeling a little restriction :smile2:
  8. I am going for my first fill today. My Dr's office didnt say anything about my diet for today (I have already eaten breakfast) Generally do you do liquids on the day of your fills, or is it just afterwards? Thanks!
  9. some people have serious anger managment issues and are a menace to society. when has this behavior become acceptable? i am disgusted
  10. transesophageal echo (TEE) is to look at the heart- one can get more detailed information by going down the esophagus (closer to the heart) than through the chest wall- (transthoracic echo) (TTE) these are usually used to evaluate how well your heart is pumping (ejection fraction) as well as to look at your valves and heart motion
  11. there are multiple esophageal studies- one of them is an EGD or esophagogastruduodenoscopy where they take a camera (looks like a tube the diameter of a pencil) and look into your esophagus down to the pyloric sphincter. It is uncomfortable but not really painful. Other tests to evaluate the esophagus would be motility studies and a barium swallow, where you swallow contrast and is not painful at all. Good luck and keep us updated!
  12. no fat is ridiculous, what about omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids? Some oils are necessary and healthy. Not just your skin but the layer surrounding your neurons needs fat. Her skin is a reflection of her general health. Your coworker is an idiot.
  13. Lisa that is horrible and sad- When I have lost weight in the past I know I have carried bitterness for being treated badly. (fat girl in thin body) I hope this doesnt happen to you.. I think I will forever carry some resentment by how cruel and superficial people can be. *hugs*
  14. the MMPI is such an old antiquated test- it is nearly useless, personally I see it having very little utility in pre-op evaluation. There is a newer MMPI-2 released in 2007, but I am not even sure about the validity of that one. This is my personal opinion, but I think the psych eval should be geared towards judging a patient's compliance with post op intructions, their support network, and their understanding of complications, risks, and long-term lifestyle changes. I was self pay and still had to undergo one. Mine took about 30 mins. sounds like I was very lucky.
  15. mmm sounds good- what a shame
  16. what were you eating dare i ask?
  17. pardon my ignorance leather but what is "double V"? does it mean you lost 55 pounds or something? I didnt see it on the newbie faq
  18. if you read the directions put out by allergan they recommend putting 3-4cc in the first fill. So i would think that most people will need more than 4 cc.
  19. i guess i am just worried that i can distend the pouch if there is a bunch of gloppy beans sitting over the stoma and then i go and drink liquids on top of it.
  20. I am 5 weeks out and I have been very good on my post op diet. Today for lunch I had a half a cup of Beans (last day on mushies) Then I came back to my desk and without thinking started sipping my cup of tea- I downed almost a cup before I realized. It was close to half an hour after I ate- Can this cause any problems?:tongue2:
  21. holy sh!t- as it were! ew ew ew his colostomy bag- some people are so disgusting- hopefully he will think twice about doing that again probably he is just as angry and entitled as ever!
  22. does that head on (apply directly to the forehead) really work?? I wonder what the mechanism of action is.
  23. tylenol- I use the meltaways and take at least two. I am too afraid to try to swallow a pill yet
  24. my doctor claims to take the fat pad off prior to placing the band- that way theoretically my fills will last longer. I do worry that eventually there will be some distension of the pouch. I havent even had my first fill yet and already I am planning to do at least 1 day of liquids a week in attempt to keep my pouch small. I hope I can stick to it!! We shall see!
