  1. I was banded on Tue and back to work the next Tues- I had a really rough time, especially yesterday for some reason... today I am almost at 100%. And I had a hernia repair as well.
  2. i wish i had been covered- my insurance had an exclusion criteria which means they pay for nothing and I will have to pay out of pocket if God forbid any complications arise I would be happy that things are moving forward! :rolleyes2:
  3. I lost some weight on my pre-op diet. I opted for the band because losing weight has been a constant struggle for me since I hit puberty at 9 years old! While a BMI of 35 is not as unhealthy as a higher one, it certainly puts me at greater risk for comorbidites. Not to mention the discrimination (yes i am sensitive) that I hate to endure as a fat girl. One of the nurses at my doctor's office told me I shouldnt get the surgery- but after gaining more than 50 pounds AGAIN after what I thought was successful weight loss (kept it off for 6 years) I really thought I needed this extra tool to help me stay thin for life. Maybe some of you disagree. I was self pay- sadly my insurance company has an exclusion criteria for WLS which scares me should something go wrong! I did have some tylenol with codeine but very little and that was days ago. It is one of the weaker opiates but of course can still decrease GI motility.
  4. thanks for the responses- I dont feel that miserable but I am worried that when the time comes it might be painful. I am drinking tea with senna in it which is a stimulant laxative and so far nuthin. I think prune juice will be the next step!
  5. I am 9 days post op and have not yet had a bowel movement? Is it time to take some docusate? How long did you all take till your first BM?
  6. thank you snowbird! I worry that I might slip the band although they do not seem that forceful. I am a worrywart and people like you help keep me sane! *hugs*
  7. Help! I cannot stop hiccuping- It seems to happen even after a few sips of liquid! Often it happens when I havent taken in anything! Anyone else having this problem??
  8. there is liquid iron you can take- I have mine on the counter- I am too afraid to taste it! But it is available! lots of women get anemic, esp if you were just tested after a menses. Believe me you are better off a healthwise now that you are close to goal! and congrats by the way!
  9. I am one week post-op and I cant stop hiccuping. I am terrified it might slip my band- although to be honest they arent really forceful. I am trying to sip my fluids ever so slowly b/c I did a search on hiccups here and a few mentioned that it was their "soft stop". How dangerous are hiccups? Should I be worried? well too late I am a horrid worrier... any thoughts?
  10. I assume it stands for "dear hubby" or something like that from the context...
  11. often when i cant burp i hiccup- then i am scared that i slipped my band!! I take gas x often. if my BF is around he will slap my back which helps! i am trying so hard to baby my band, not swallow any air, etc. but these hiccups can sometimes not be helped- any suggestions?
  12. when i went to see my bariatric surgeon his nurse said to me "dont get this surgery you are so short and cute!!!" my father who was with me chimed in "and ROUND!" He is in for anything to make his daughter less fat, while my mom, sister, and best friend were all somewhat against it- I think mainly out of concern for me and nothing malicious at all. Well I am now banded and they have no choice but to be supportive! I am not telling anyone at work and it is hard to sneak around only drinking liquids.
  13. I put "ate everything in sight as an answer b/c a week before I went out for Indian food and really went to town. I told my doctor about it and he didnt seem to care. So far I have been 100% perfect on my post-op diet!
  14. omg I am sorry to hear that!! good luck getting better *hugs*
  15. me too- and i hiccup too which really hurts- i am using the gas-x (simethecone) thin strips. I am not sure they are helping. Also i think it helps when I walk around a little- I tried having my boyfriend burp me also- that helped a little.
  16. i would just die without my sugar free popsicles! i eat about 1 an hour!
  17. how many incisions did you all have? I had a hiatal hernia repaired as well and I have 6 incisions
  18. there is actually a poll on here- i believe most people had 5. wonder why i had the extra- better not be the surgery resident that was in there!
  19. I have 6 incisions- seems like a lot! I also had a hiatal hernia repair which may be why- How many incisions did you all have?
  20. I am on clear liquids supplemented with a liquid MVI and protein shakes. The shakes make me want to burp but I can't... I will often hiccup instead which terrifies me each time that I am slipping my band. Takes me all day to drink a shake. The liquid vitamin is awful- are you having trouble getting this down as well? Basically living on popsicles. Wonton sounds like a great idea!!
