  1. I am curious if this has happened to other people - and as my disclaimer I have talked to my surgeon and he said this normal and ok, however because you all have bands (or are getting them) - I am just curious if anyone here has had this happen to them? Ok, I am on Oxycodone and Dilaudid for pain due to the ovarian cyst that sent me to the Emergency room Thursday evening. Since then I have no appetite - I have a hard time getting more than 500 calories a day since Thursday. I have thoroughly checked out the side effects and there is nothing about losing appetite or appetite suppression, it does state on both that you could feel nauseaus but that hasn't happened either. As I said the Doc said it could be the meds most likely but I wanted to hear from my LapBand friends if you have had a similar reaction? The reason I am asking you guys is I have taken medication like those above for surgeries or severe pain before having my band and I didn't lose my appetite. He couldn't answer that question - and probably secretly thinks I am nuts LOL:tt2: Anyone? Please help me out folks if you have had this happen to you!
  2. Hi there, I really wanted you to know I enjoyed your comments above and I agree that a therapist is priceless! And that is not just because I am currently in college to become one - I really liked your question - about disliking yourself and why - it hit home and I understand it.
  3. I too am losing hair like you read about! I have gotten very anxious about it for sure. And recently at work one of my friends/co worker noticed it was getting much thinner - for someone else to notice really scared me! I do keep my Protein up where I am suppose to but I think I will look into the Biotin and I love Nioxin, I use to work for a beauty supply distributor years ago and we were one of the first to carry it. I will just have to pay retail for it which stinks - that was the beauty of working in a wholesale beauty supply store - it was so inexpensive!
  4. Well honestly when I know I cannot stop at just a bite or two of something I just don't eat it period, for me that is the best way - however, some people do just fine with the bite or two and can move on. I am like you, I use to see food and feel as though I had to have it, the one thing that I have finally realized is that I can have it but do I really want it? What will it lead to? Will I be satisfied with one or two bites? I can't eat anything doughy whatsoever and if I do try (and let me tell you I tried to work around it lol) I get stuck horribly - so now in the case of pizza I peel the cheese and veggies off and eat those and leave the crust behind. I would do as others have suggested and perhaps take a bite or two if you know your limits, if not then pack a little goody bag for yourself that is portion controlled  Plus if you do ok with chicken (I do not sadly) you could peel skin off of the wings and have some chicken? Good luck!
  5. Hi there, I had a port that was too big for my body I guess is the best way to describe it, it was bonking against my rib area and causing considerable pain, then of course it was getting bonked back causing the port to be pulled around in side (although stitched in it was yanking a bit) So, my Surgeon did a port revision on November 19th, he ordered a low profile port (smaller and thinner is how he described it) and replaced the old one with the new one. I feel really good now, no pain whatsoever from my port  Other people have port revisions for different reasons, so I guess the term could be used for many different situations.
  6. I want to thank all of you! It makes me feel better to see that others have had this happen and understand the pain that it causes - thank you all for making me feel better
  7. Hello who ever is reading this :grouphug: About a year and half ago I had an ovarian cyst that went from the size of a grape to the size of an orange in about 4 days, causing the most excruciating pain, I ended up finding out at 11 am this had happened (via an emergency visit to the ob-gyn Dr.) and he was scheduling my emergency surgery for 3 pm that day. Now, I got to keep that ovary thankfully and all has been well, however, the night before last night I started having lower pelvic pain, I thought it was perhaps a urinary infection as it was quite sudden and painful.... Well lo' and behold I went to my Dr. yesterday to get it taken care of and he told me that I did not have an infection but I was going to the emergency room as he suspected I had another cyst. I was finally given a room at the busy hospital in their triage unit, after being poked, prodded, stuck and plucked it was determined that I have a little cyst that is causing this severe pain I am having. Seven hours later, with lots of morphine into my body I was sent home on my merry way. I followed up with the surgeon who originally removed my first cyst today, he said we are going to do the "wait and see" right now, it is seeping a little blood but it isn't at the point to be removed. So here I am, home, curled up in bed with Percocet and or Dilaudid if needed, I at least have the lap top and when I am not in drug world I can at least pop on here and see what is going on, thank god for this site
  8. I understand about being frustrated some times with some posts, but that is the beauty of this forum - it gives me a moment to see if I can be of help or encouragement - if I don't think I can I will let someone else post :grouphug: I am glad this site is available period for anyone, so that they can ask any question, tell you they might have done something "wrong" or un-band like - because if you can't share those feelings or issues with someone who was banded who can you share them with? And as RestlessMonkey (who's posts seem spot on) said, if I don't want to answer a post I don't have to - sounds good to me. By the way I have done bad things sometimes, I am not a martyr LOL and will never give the impression to all you folks that I am - and my disclaimer for the day is ... ***mistakes are human... therefor I am
  9. I have been a vegetarian for the past 6 years, however, since getting my band I have had to add adjust, so I tried adding chicken and no matter what I do, how I cook it or how I coat it it gets stuck horribly! I did try an extremely small piece of very tender steak at a resturaunt from my husbands plate about a month ago before my latest fill and it was ok, but as a rule I don't eat red meat (even before becoming vegetarian) I basically just eat lots of tender fish instead
  10. I use to hate tuna out of a can, but now I really enjoy it for whatever reason. I of course cannot eat the things I use to binge on since my last fill, no more pizza, bagels, english muffins or bread of any sort - and quite frankly I am ok with this
  11. Hear! Hear! I agree with RestlessMonkey!
  12. Oh for the love of god lol, people are a real treat some times huh? You are not alone there was a good thread that I posted to the other day that was about the things people have said to you and there are some doosies out there. But you know what is happening, you know that this is not a fast process for some, keep the faith, keep your head held high and learn some witty come backs quick  Trust me I understand, I mean look at my stats lol, I have only lost 11 pds in the past six months - you can imagine what I have heard and the looks I have gotten
  13. Yes, I panicked! I worried about it being canceled though lol, I was terrified I would have something happen that would keep me from having this surgery, honestly, I had so much anxiety that until I actually got the hospital and was in my waiting room did I start to relax... somewhat lol, because the first thing I asked my nurse when I came out of the surgery and came to was "do I have my band?" Good luck to you  Relax, take a deep breath and trust that all will be well, you're going to be fine Hugs to you!
  14. I bought my dummie's book from Amazon and it was a really great tool to have, read it again recently to brush up on some things
  15. LOL, I thought the same thing! Heh, glad I am not alone.
  16. I drink about the same or a little less, which in itself is amazing as I thought that would never happen. It is really a great treat and I can't imagine giving it up
  17. Hi I use fitday.com as well, it works well for me and I will stick with it, I did try Sparkpeople.com but I just couldn't get use to using it sadly - it is a site that pretty much combines forums and calorie tracking(actually it provides a lot) and I met some great people there. However, I always come back to LapBandTalk.com and Fitday.
  18. Wow that really stinks, I have to agree with RestlessMonkey - that is really risky. I am really sorry they are giving you an ultimatum essentially and that seems really unfair. I am not able to answer your question (obviously) but I wanted to post and let you know that I am thinking of you, I hope someone will have the right answer for you so you can get moving with your surgery. Good luck to you, Barbie
  19. Yes, I too had those around my incisions - although I never asked what they were and probably should have right? I am going to tell you what I think they are... I think it is from some sort of retractor tool that holds the area open? I am sure some one here is going to set us straight and provide a great answer to my guess!

So, first of all I have today off from work just in case any one reads this and thinks I am slacking lol - I love this site! So without sounding all dramatic and silly I wanted to say that last night I had a unnerving emotion run through me. I had purchased "Weight loss surgery for Dummies" before I had my surgery and last night I pulled it out to review it again - and in the middle of reading it I remembered back to when I was reading it the first time.... I was curled up in bed for the evening and had a low light on, I was so anxious to have my surgery and I was trying to learn everything I could, I was fighting with my insurance company to get it covered, worrying if I would lose enough weight before hand....it goes on and one those worries I had And then last night it hit me, it is done, I had the surgery, the insurance did cover it.... I have a band in me! I cried, I sat there with my book in bed like I had done many months before and I cried

Hi Rachel! I am happy that you got such a good fill  I too have a 10cc band and am at 5.5cc now, but I am a wimp I am afraid lol, I get numbed now as my first one was not just a pinch. I wanted to just say hello and wish you lots of luck, I see you on the forum and think you are doing great! Barbie
  23. Steph, from what I have read, from my own experience it is not that unusual - although highly frustrating! to gain before you have restriction from a fill - ok so you already know this I can see from your post and I do understand the urgency - been there. Just keep plugging along, is my advice, sooner or later it will come off, drink your Water, count calories if that is helpful? (for me it is essential) keep walking and remember that you are never alone! Hugs, good thoughts and patience to you
  24. Hi there  I had a port revision 5 months after my initial surgery, they unfilled my band for the surgery and I made sure to ask before the surgery if they would put it back in? Even when I woke up from my surgery one of the first things I asked was if they put my fluid back in? They had
