  1. Recognizing the misstep and admitting the error is a huge step, Bandguy. Best of luck.
  2. Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum - FAQ Click on the link above and you will see a screen. Among the items listed will be lap band abbreviations. Click on it for an explanation of pbing as well as other acronyms used.
  3. I try to get in about 1200 a day, but I usuallly drop to 1000. I've found myself lately losing much more quickly by getting in at least 1200. Look up your BMR on the net. If you can reduce that by 500 daily you would loose a pound a week, or achieve a reduction of 3500 calories. Reduce it by a 1000 a day, with diet and exercise, and two pounds a week. It's pretty simple math.
  4. Why do you feel you are eating too much if you are losing weight? The point is to lose weight, not to eat the tiniest amount possible. Is there some magic amount you want to eat? I eat between 1.5 and 2 cups of food (mostly veggies) at a meal and I'm losing 2 pounds a week. By the way the doctor has to tell you your medical information. There was a huge law suit over just this thing and the courts held that records are the patient's property. Just be more firm with him. Insist.
  5. You only need chewable or liquid vitamins if you can't take the pills whole.
  6. It would be sweet to say that all we had to do to lose weight is to get a band on. I think you need to rethink your food choices and to learn to eat in a more healthy way. If you have children, now is the time to set a great example as far as food goes.
  7. Those commercials will not cause you to succumb. YOU will cause you to succumb. If the commercials are hard for you, then turn off the tv and read or sew or whatever . . . It's up to you.
  8. I eat fresh veggies with hummus for lunch often. Just never celery or carrots. Cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, etc.
  9. Sliming can be caused by taking too big of bites and/or not chewing enough. It isn't just caused by being too tight. Get a preg test. Go see your doc. You don't need manners from her, you need medical advice. Ask if she has a counselor or a nutritionist. It's up to you.
  10. I think that this thread shows people need to deal with their issues with food. Just getting a band and "eating like "normal" people do only tiny amounts" isn't necessarily the answer for everyone. Work on your issues. It's only food, for crying out loud. Being hungry or not eating is NOT an emergency.
  11. Bandguy, go back and see your doctor, you will not be the first of his patients to gain weight. A fill might help you get back on track. To get back to the thread topic. Yes it was worth it, but somehow I missed the drama queen phase so many seem to go through. I didn't have much pain at all. Day three I was exercising. You'll do fine, but you must be committed to the process.
  12. Debbygburg, I hope you are feeling better soon. Have you considered some counseling to help deal with any food issues you might have. I think this might help whether you keep your band or not. Best of luck to you. I completely agree with MsJai. You must do what is right for you.
  13. Frequently Asked Questions (NEW!) - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum Click on the above link and it will take you to the introductory portion of the forum and it has several FAQs that you might like to read. The one labeled lap band abbreviations will explain in detail.
  14. I always thought it was an interesting paradox: the fatter you get, the harder it is for people to see you. I think that this includes yourself. It helps to not attach any moral values to weight/size. It's simply a descriptive word, like tall, short, blonde, etc.
  15. I have thought about this thread. Fat people don't like others judging them because of their size. Hmmm . . . Live long and prosper.
  16. I take centrum liquid. They are available at our local drug store and grocery store.
  17. I have a slim fast low carb or a home made smoothie with milk, ff sf yogurt, and .5 cup of all bran cereal all whipped up.
  18. You have to be off metformin to have surgery, as far as I understand it.
  19. Well yeah. Metformin is used most commonly for diabetics to help control their blood glucose levels. lol
  20. I think you are right, Jachut. There seem to be many ways to use the band "as a tool". I don't mind being on a diet, I never have. I like the control and the decision making on a daily basis. Others like to use it for portion control. Whatever works for you, is my motto. To answer the op. I can eat chips, but I never do cause I would eat the whole bag. I can't eat Pasta and rice. cheese, melted or otherwise is fine. I love garlic bread but I have to nibble at it, otherwise it sticks. I don't go to fast food restaurants.
  21. The best benefit of having the lap band, for me, is that I never feel hunger. Not once in three months.
  22. Hastings replied to a post in a topic in The Lounge
I was molested for ten years by an uncle and by my father, with my mother's complicity. I have not found it necessary to forgive any of them. I HAVE found it necessary to finally let go of it. Children who are molested have their self image distorted and their self esteem severly damaged for many many years. Until you let go of it, you have granted them power to affect you. It's the same with being fat. I let it go. I am safe now. It just pisses me off that it took me almost fifty years to find freedom. There is no justice.
  23. Be prepared for a hard sell, though. In my experience those personal trainers can be very insistent.
  24. I have always appreciated your posts, Wasa, and hope you continue to post. It's almost like voodoo around here sometimes. Everyone is afraid their mojo will be jinxed by someone/thing. They don't realize that the power is in them, whatever tool they use or don't use. Keep on truckin' and keep on postin'.
  25. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page there is a list of threads about this subject. If you ever have a question you can also do a search on the subject i.e. "flying". I'm flying to Sweden in July and and a little nervous about it.
