I think many of us have self sabotaged in the past. The key is this time you recognize it. Perhaps speak about this with your nutritionist or get some counseling. Much of the success with WLS is mental and if your mind is not ready for the changes you need to make, you may be setting yourself up for failure.

I agree with the above comments. People ARE going to ask and many more people won't ask out loud but they will be wondering and possibly asking other people if they noticed, too.
The first thing they might wonder is if you are sick. You don't have to give details.
I don't give details to too many people. I did talk to my immediate group of people that I work with and sit near. Unfortunately, one of them told other people who then told other people. Sigh.
But, if someone were to ask if this were a good thing, I would just say, yes, it was the right thing for me to do.
Most people ask what it is that I'm doing (if they don't know about the surgery, and sometimes if they do know about the surgery because they really don't know how it works). I just tell them that there isn't just one thing that I"m doing. It's a combination of quite a few things, including exercising a lot and focusing on more Protein and less carbs. I don't feel the need to tell them that I had surgery necessarily. It really depends on who they are and why I think they are asking. One person had asked some vague questions and he is the only one I have felt bad about not telling because he is trying to lose weight and it may have helped him. I may still talk with him but not sure yet.
The worst part for me is when I haven't lost weight in a while and they all wondering if I'm still on track. I just say that I am, though I have had a few stalls. And that's it.
Luckily, most people aren't asking to be rude, they really care and want to know.
Anyway, I would suggest that you have some vague comments prepared so that you can smile and answer the barrage of questions without telling them details. If they ask how much weight you have lost, just say that you are "on track" (with a smile). If they press, then say that you don't feel comfortable talking about that. Unless you do, then go for it!
But, if you have some nice comments prepared, it takes the pressure off.
Best of luck. I think one of the hardest things about losing weight is becoming more the center of attention. It's really only because when we are at our heaviest, we try really hard to be invisible and that becomes our comfort zone. Being uncomfortable is growth in a good way. You are really just rejoining the community and it is weird to do that.
Enjoy your journey, enjoy people wanting to talk to you and taking an interest in you. It really is a good thing!

You are choosing to have a medical procedure to help fix a medical problem. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't understand why people don't get it. If you needed to have heart surgery, would your mother tell you to try to work it out on your own? If you needed to have a cancerous tumor removed would she say it is too dangerous and you should try to lose it yourself? Of course not! The thought is ridiculous! There are times when surgery is the best option.
This is YOUR decision, and only your decision. If you don't want to do it then don't, but it has to be your choice. If I were in your situation I would simply explain to my mother that this is what I have decided to do, and it is no longer open for debate. She can choose to be supportive, or she can choose to keep her negativity to herself. Period.

Your doctor is an ass. She should be more concerned about your health, not how fast you lose. If you are getting in all your Protein, fluids and Vitamins then you are doing great. If not, then that's what you should concentrate on, not the numbers on the scale. Losing slower is much healthier and easier to maintain in the long run. It took me 7 weeks to lose 17 pounds postop and I was thrilled. Glad I didn't have your surgeon to make me feel bad about it. And my rate of loss did not prevent me from reaching and passing goal in less than a year.

It defiantly does get better! If we all stayed like that it would be a miserable WLS world and nobody would behaving it done...that's your proof. I know it sucks in the beginning but in a month you will not even think about this time. Hang in there!

not to be mean, I hope this discussion stays blank. Because that would mean that there were no unsuccessful stories. Bottom line, it is up to the person if they want the surgery to be successful or not.

Quest4TheNewMe reacted to BLERDgirl in 4 Weeks Post Op - Should I Be Able To Eat This Much?
Why are you eating so fast? It takes approximately 20 mins for your brain and tummy to communicate that your are full. By eating slower you allow your body time to send those signals. Try downloading the Eat Slower app. Try eating just the smaller portion and then wait 20 minutes if you are truly hungry then have some more. These are habits you need to develop going forth. The surgery was step 1. The changes you need to adopt in how you eat as well as how much you eat are entirely on you.

When looking at pictures on the wall of your home, a newer friend of yours stops in front of a "older" pic of you and asks, "Is this your brother?" Completely not letting on that the large person in the photo is me, you just reply, "Yes, but he is dead now." (This was followed with my wife jumping in to explain the whole situation... really funny when it happened)

The NUT and I discussed it and I told her that in the past, my goal has been 175, but I'd really like to get to 150. She said that 175 was a reasonable goal.
I'm still aiming for the 150. I'm currently at 198.8, just over two months post-op.
