Looking for Bandsters in NW Houston
Hi there...I'm up for it! Same as Brown Bear...evenings and weekends are good for me.

you LOSE weight until your clothes are LOOSE
I read emails from so-called educated folks at work and I realize that the whole damn world is grammar dumb. The number one thing that drives me bananas is when I send an email with three questions and only the first one is answered. Grr....Do I really have to send three different emails in order to get their attention? 'Cause I will!

I hate it when people post just to post.....
laptops rock...and they aren't that expensive. DD keeps bringing that up and is asking for her own, and I'm like, hell NO.

I hate it when people post just to post.....
Yeppers...that sucks. I was pretty lucky and didn't have to wait a long time. But, then I needed 5 years of back up and I have it! I keep everything. I didn't need testing though...being fat was enough. My friend wants the surgery, but turns out her insurance didn't cover it. If it did, though, she still wouldn't have had enough information and would probably have had to do the 6 month diet. (Her insurance is same as mine, but her employer chose to exclude WLS. Bastards.) Good luck to you! And, is it HUMP DAY already? Cool.

This has been done to death
LOL...I think I've seen that. I'm really tight in the mornings, so may have to use that as an energy boost later in the day. I'd rather exercise in the am, but I have to leave the house so fricking early, I save it for the afternoon...and then run into those excuses. But no more! Thanks for the rant...sometimes venting is good.

This has been done to death
4:30! Wow...See, that's where I need to put my alarm on the other side of the room in order to get up. May I ask: what time do you go to bed? DH can run on very little sleep, while I need a ton.

lost my mojo
 Great point! There is so much un-learning to do. Sometimes I get frustrated, but I think I'll try to keep this in mind. We've lived our lives the other way for so long, and it's hard to change - but it's not impossible!

Couch to 5K for August...who's in?
Thank you so much! I just checked on active.com (still am, actually) and I love this site! It really made me feel better about still being fat and trying to run. I think a part of my pea-brain is saying, "You're NOT a runner." But, I CAN be! I'm really getting more and more excited about this...the more and more I think about it. The real challenge is getting my butt out there and doing it. I'm looking the 5k's around Houston and there is one that kids can do, too. I love that. I may try to motivate my DD into it.

This has been done to death
Interesting thread. I'm in the camp of "suck it up, life is hard, get over yourself and just do it." At the same time, I'm mad at myself because I'm not motivated. I am certainly not blaming the band, though I DO think I deluded myself in the beginning. I think I did believe it was magic and now I'm getting to the hard part of the journey and I'm nervous I won't be able to handle it. I agree that exercise is a MUST. For me, it's definitely that way. I was walking a lot in the beginning, but phased out for a while...It really made a difference and I'm struggling to get back to it. Not much of a point...sorry, reading this thread got me thinking about the beginning of this journey and now.

Couch to 5K for August...who's in?
I gotta say....I hate the treadmill, but it's the easiest (timewise) that I have. It's right there and I can help with homework, etc...if needed. Outside it's hot...there are people that I really don't want seeing me all jiggly and sweaty. lol But, as soon as I am more comfortable, and the weather gets nicer, I would like to take it to a trail nearby. I'm actually excited about that idea. Also, the treadmill makes me very dizzy, too. I don't hold on to the rails for support, but I do touch them with a finger just to keep me from tilting over. On Biggest Loser couples, there was a guy that held on to the treadmill and the trainers kept yelling at him to let go. But, now I understand. I hear their voice in my head when I am on it, but I still have to have at least one hand touching it. Mini-goal: To be able to let go and not get dizzy.

Couch to 5K for August...who's in?
I did it! I came home and did this tonight at home on the treadmill. My legs burned, but I LOVED how it felt. I told my daughter that I "signed up" for this online and her eyes got big and she said, "When is the race?" I got a kick out of that. But, keeping that in my mind makes the commitment "real" to me. Can't wait for the next one!

Couch to 5K for August...who's in?
 Thank you! Good luck to you, too! I just sent the link to my friends asking them to do it, too. Hell, I can't be the only crazy one, right?! I'm actually excited about it. I've been moping about, trying to get motivated and I think I should just jump in. I've never been much of a runner, but it's the easiest thing to do since we have a treadmill in the living room. I'm hoping this will get my enthusiasm back up.

Couch to 5K for August...who's in?
[bIG BREATH] Okay...I know I'm late, but please count me in, too. YIKES. I hate exercise and am very scared I won't commit to it. I think having to answer to LBT will make me do it.

It's not my fight...but I'm still MAD
It's better this am...he's now an outpatient and he's doing better. But, it's really bad to do that. I feel worse for my step-dad. He doesn't deserve to be a guinea pig. I just wish my mother would do something about it...But, if wishes were wings, right? Thanks for letting me vent.

Pick a rant topic, any topic!
My rant: To the cleaning lady who left a sticky by my Soup saying: "This how roaches get here." No.1 - I had a family emergency and HAD TO LEAVE URGENTLY. No.2 - This was the FIRST TIME I've done this. Check the dude down the hall w/the mini-fridge, microwave and baker's rack in his office. Or one of the other 5,000 people who work in this facility. Because REALLY? I am the reason roaches are here? Me and my small bowl of leftover soup? No.3 - You work here, same as me. If roaches come, do your job and spray them, kill them, but DON'T EVER LEAVE ME A NOTE LIKE THAT AGAIN. I'm a mite pissed at seeing that first thing after having to leave suddenly yesterday because of a medical issue w/my step-father. Bastard do-gooders who can't leave people the hell alone....grrrrr. [/rant.]

It's not my fight...but I'm still MAD
Brief history: My father has had spells of psychosis over the years. For a long time it went un-diagnosed and we just thought he was an asshole...tried to get mom to leave him, she wouldn't...We continued to think they're both nuts. I moved across country a couple years back and my mom and step-dad moved with me a few months later. When they got here, he was in full psychosis mode. She left him and stayed with me for a while and while he was on his own, caused enough drama to be admitted to a mental institution by the police. At the time there were 2 choices and the police took him to Choice #1 - a state run facility. They diagnosed him as low thyroid and manic depression. They put him on thyroid meds and psychiatric drugs...he was home in 2 weeks. He didn't remember a thing of the drama he caused and was WONDERFUL. It was like a switch had gone off and he was the nicest man I've ever met. Fast forward to a month ago. Mom/step-dad bought a house and moved from the apt they'd been renting and that event sparked another psychosis episode (He'd been off the meds for about 1.5 years since "leveling off" with no troubles since). Mom took him to the doctor and they admitted him to another hospital, where social workers admitted him to Choice #2 Private Medical Center. This place has had him for almost a month, and they kept trying different solutions, wouldn't listen to my mother about his previous diagnosis and he has not gotten any better. He has called my mother several times a day w/crazy stories - he's a spy, they're going to kill him, she's the devil, a frog is Jesus Christ, etc. - until yesterday. He called yesterday and he's FINE she said. FINE. He's talking normal again, regrets going "psycho" and was okay with being in there until the docs okay'd his leaving. So, this morning the nurses called mom and told her to come get him, that today is the last day he was allowed to stay according to insurance. I'M SO MAD AT THAT. They just milked the insurance. They tried different things on him that didn't work...charged the insurance all they could, then when time was running out, they gave him meds they knew would work and now he can leave. ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It just makes me sooo mad. I hate medical stuff and insurance and this just clinches it. My poor stepfather had to pay the price for greedy bastard doctors. F'ers!!!!

I hate it when people post just to post.....
Monday morning and I'm back at work after having a week off. I hate this. Why can't I win the lottery...? Something about having to play it to win it? Why? Why can't it be like jury duty? Although, I've never been called for that, either so chances of me winning the lottery are still as slim. Damn.

Should LapBandTalk have forums for OTHER Weight Loss Surgeries?
I voted yes...I think if something happens to my band, I'd like to still be a part of the LBT group. I don't think those groups should have a main focus, but I personally don't mind a group being on LBT for non-banders. Then I read Georgia Girl's response and that made a lot sense. So, now I'm on the fence. Perhaps if there was a way to stop that before it begins, though I'm not sure how w/out seeming superior. (But face it...the band is superior..ha ha...ha....Okay, moving on.) But, maybe have it so that if any conflicts like that arise, the non-banding forums will be removed. ???

Are others in your family overweight/obese?
Most of my family is fat. I have a few very skinny family members (too skinny, not "normal") and the rest are fat. Very few are a healthy size.

The powder room
I understand moderation...to some degree. But, it's hard to be polite society here and then look at R&R where everything goes. Here at least, we can get good (?) advice from other women. I love reading the powder room...and I love being graphic. I can't discuss this kind of stuff with anyone because I get too red in the face. Online, it's easy. I've tried the exercise ball...maybe I'm not doing it right...? I also *almost* bought some plain yogurt to "apply directly to source" but thought about it way too much. I ended up putting it back without buying it. But I stood in the grocery store for a good 2 minutes thinking about the things I've read in this thread. LBT is great because you can read about your issues with the band and other "real-life" things. For me, gaining weight wasn't all about food. There is a lot of emotion behind it and the Powder Room makes me feel that I have girlfriends to talk to. IRL I don't have that many. I have work friends and family members, but not many friends my age, in the same boat as me. From what I read here, a lot of women have the same questions and concerns that I do. And, the potty mouth that I do! Which, is a relief to me. Anyway...that's my 2 cents. Someone PM me and tell me which threads were closed...???? I've been out on vacation and had limited internet access....I've been jones'n man for my LBT - BIG TIME.
