Problem throwing away food
It does take getting over. Another thing I do, it also helps me cut down on the amout eaten, is at work I bring some extra food containers. If I bring in something like what you had, I immediately put half away for the next day. I don't mix it up, or put it on the crackers. I don't know if you have access to a refrigerator, but something to think about. I do the same with frozen meals and take away, also.

I love my mother-in-law, but...
I like Heathan's response. It was going to be my suggestion. This is exactly the reason I did not tell my MIL. I told her I get migraines, now I get asked about it nearly every time I see her, just for something to talk about. I think she is truly concerned, but I don't care to talk about it every time I see her, thanks. You could also say that you weren't comfortable talking about your weight when you were gaining, so now you aren't comfortable talking about it while you are losing. Why is it OK to ask about losing anyway? I once asked someone if he was losing weight. Imaine my mortification when his response was that yes, he was....due to cancer. (True story). He died a few months later. Or, just throw a number out there...say 10 this time, 25 next time, 5 the time after that. My MIL has never had a weight problem, but when my niece (her granddaughter) and I were doing a weight loss program together, she had the gall to try and drag us to a scale to see what we weighed--someone else fell for it and she announced their weight to the entire family. Yeah, we were NOT going for that. I think my response would be that I am not getting on the scale any more. My weight is not where the focus is, my eating habits are. I was getting obsessed with the number on the scale, so I put it away. LAP-BAND is all about being healthy not hitting a certain weight. So, thanks for asking, my blood pressure is normal! Yay!!!

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
Hi Everyone! Wowser! The US Geological Survey upgraded the quake to a 7.2! Our home was rocking for about 45 seconds. DH was in the shower at the time. Butters had his girlfriend Stella over, the were OK with things until stuff started rattling, then they were not happy. I was wondering if Don, my hubby, could feel it (he never seems to feel them and gets all kinds of upset when I report them), and then realized he was stading in a glass coffin (corner shower stall). As things kept shaking, I realized that over my head behind the couch is a brass sculpture of seagulls and perhaps that was not the best place for me to be. So I took off down the hall. As I went into the bedroom, hubby was jetting out of the bedroom, soaking wet, having just exited the shower. We nearly collided with the house STILL shaking, his eyes the size of dinner plates. "CAN YOU FEEL THAT?!?" We both yelled at the same time. The shaking in San Diego went on for about 45 seconds. Which in earthquake standards is a very long time. Our pool was sloshing around, our hanging lamp was swinging back and forth, and things were rattling and making noises. I felt about 3 more aftershocks within the hour following. I read this morning that one man was killed in Mexico near the epicenter when his house collapsed on him. There was more damage in Mexico that on the US side of the border. I guess for me, earthquakes are no biggie, the threat is always there. I am more afraid of tornadoes for you in the midwest. I have posted a map below from the US Geological Survey's web site. The red are quakes that have happened in the last hour, blue the last 24 hours, and yellow the last week. The size of the squares has to do with the magnitude, the bigger the stronger. The San Andreas Fault Runs from NW of San Francisco to the Gulf of California (the water between Baja California and Mainland Mexico). It has been extremely active!! Earthquakes.bmp

So my wife is pissed......
It's funny, Jax, for me, it was the opposite, my hubby felt he was my food police before my surgery. Since then he says, you've been so successful, I figure you know what you are doing now. We had some doozy arguments over food before. He has never been a chow hound. I could eat him under the table, and I always got hungry hours before he did. He always felt that if he weren't hungry, then I should not be hungry. If he were hungry, then I could eat. Through this process he has seen that now I am eating when I need food, and I am eating what my body needs. He is now OK with my needs and choices. It is soooooo nice!

A question for those who have been banded a while
Hi Jason, My biggiest sticker is white meat chicken. I don't even try any more. Also very soft breads, ground beef, and tomato skin can cause issues for me. Everyone is different though, so you'll have to learn what works for you or not. As denouement said earlier, (sorry I am not sure which pronoun to use-so am choosing one) he has a hard time with many foods. I like my band fairly loose. It gives me a wider choice of foods. I was overfilled once and I could barely get anything down. I have about 5 or 5.5cc in a 10cc band. With that level I can eat just about anything, just in smaller portions than I used to. Others prefer to have theirs tighter and have less choices. It is a lot of personal preference. And, there are those that even with less restriction still have troubles. The list below is from lapband.com Dry meat Peanut Butter Shrimp Untoasted or doughy bread Pasta or rice Fibrous vegetables (e.g., corn, celery and asparagus) Dried fruit Coconut Popcorn Citrus fruits Nuts Hope this helped.

With everyone wearing sunscreen these days, I am thinking this is becoming more common. I came up deficient on my last blood test. No biggie, just a supplement and all is well.

Anne, all I can say is OMG, SF Popsicles? That's it, you are doomed! :bored: Hee hee, teasing you, of course! I could think of far worse things to binge on. However, the act itself is one to work on. Glad you felt you could come here for support and "absolution." Ok, I am off to lunch with the hubby. Here's hoping today goes better than yesterday!

What can I take for allergies??
A quick call to your doctor's office should be able to clear the question up. I take Pseudofed when my sinuses are stuffy. The pills are tiny. Since the band doesn't mess with absorption, as long as the pills aren't horse chokers that will get stuck on the way down, I don't see a problem taking what you usually take.

Now you're making my mouth water! We love the Marietta's chain, yummy!

Drinking and Eating
Does anyone know if there have been any studies about this? It seems the rule is all over the place, as are many of the rules. I have seen 1 hour before to 2 hours after. No time before to 45 mintes after. 30 minutes before to 30 minuts after. It is doctor specific. My doctor doesn't have a problem with me having some liquid with my meals. He just said I might not have room for it. It seems we are all instructed to chew, chew, chew....doesn't that fairly liquify the food to begin with? How could taking a few sips of something wash it out quicker? In my own banded life, I have experimented with not drinking and drinking with my meals (as I have permission from my surgeon) and can't say I notice a difference as to when I get hungry again. As to the nutrients, we don't absorb those through the stomach. That all occurs in the intestine.

I am down the hill in La Mesa! My best shopping pal is in Ramona, right near Mount Woodson. We camp quite often at Dos Picos. Love it up there!

A question for those who have been banded a while
As your new way of eating gets more ingrained it becomes habit. It takes time, though. But the band won't let you go back to your old habits (if eating fast and taking big bites are your habits). You won't obsess over every detail as you learn what works and what doesnt.

Onederland!!!!
Yay!! Super congrats!! Well done! I am doing a happy dance for you.

Banded 3/29 - post-op diet question
Call your doc and tell him you are starving. Perhaps you'll be able to move to mushies. I was doing very well and my surgeon let me move through the post-op plan faster than I was originally told. I told him I was ready to eat my dog, and that they only that saved him was that he could move faster than I could!

Tired of throwing up.
You have multiple things that could be not helping the situation. Antibioitcs and vicodin can both cause stomach upset. Eating while lying down causes me all sorts of stuck problems. Finally, I can't eat cherry or grape tomatoes, it is just too much skin for me to chew thoroughly. Put all that together and it is one big whammy! As another poster said, don't hesitate to call your doctor, that is what we pay them for. As a side note, I take vicodin for arthritis pain. Yes, the pills are big, but I do better to take the whole pill than to break it in half. It seems to me like the edges of the halfs make them stick more than the larger whole pill. Hope you are feeling better soon!

Hey Chickadee, I got a tip on another thread for the public toilet urping with splash back to the face. Put a seat cover into the water, it stops the splash! I filed the information into my pea brain this morning for future reference. Well, today we had sushi for lunch, and yours truly, the effing dork, popped the whole piece into her mouth. Usually I break them up into little pieces. Guess I had a brain dead moment! Yep, STUCK CITY! So, I tried the seat cover in the water trick, it worked very well to stop the splashing! This is, of course, assuming you have time to grab it before the urping begins. I was sooooo ticked at myself. A ten dollar roll down the toilet, literally! Well, I guess they all go down the toilet, just not that quickly!! :bored: On the plus side, because of my band and lovely episodes like that, I got some more pants in size 10! Yay!

So my wife is pissed......
Yes, she is an adult, and when they got home, she could have gotten in the car and gone to McDonald's if she wanted the fries that badly. My question to the OP, did she ask you for your support during all this? I would think tht she did. My husband would have done exactly the same during my pre-op had I asked him to stop. I told him the rules of my pre-op diet, and I asked him for support. Support is refusing to help me give in to temptation. He would not have taken my keys away if I were going to drive myself. But he certainly would not stop if he were driving and I asked him to go through the drive-thru. I'd have been angry at the time, but I would have later realized he was supporting me--just as I'd asked him to do. The only person who gets hurt by cheating is the cheating person. If her liver does not shrink enough for the surgeon to be comfortable, she may not get her band. I have read of folk going under anesthesia expecting to wake up with bands and waking up with just scars and no bands because their surgeons did not like the looks of the liver. So, it is up to the wife, how badly does she want her band, and how badly does she want to succeed. If she is a true grazer of junk food, perhaps the band isn't the best choice? My two cents worth.

Hey Everyone! Anyone seen Bob or JensGems lately? Happy Saturday! I have a headache from heck today. Not the worst but blah. Threw a handful of meds down my throat. Is better, but yuck. Not sure if migraine or sinus, maybe a mix of both. We have high pressure building behind a weather system that came through. That's always a bad thing for me. Butters and I finally made it out for a walk the other day. As he'd had a longish break, much of his recent training had gone out the window. Poor guy. :bored: Bad mommy! Checked my blood sugar this morning 95!! Woohoo! We are going out to lunch today, and shopping for a new bathroom rug. Anne--way to find the bright side to the lag in your approval! Keep learning. The more prepared you are, the better you will do post-op. Betsy-I used to hate all pictures of me. Now I love all those old ugly ones, the uglier the better! Congrats on getting rid of the "wide" rating on your sizes! Woot woot!! You are doing great, even with all the stresses in your life right now. Keep up the good work! Hope everyone has a super great day!!!

PB or Vomit after getting stuck???
Some people use PB (productive burb) as a name for what you have described. I've seen it used interchangeably with burping up stuff and vomitting up stuck stuff. For me, a PB is just that, a burp where I bring up something. It produces more than air. Being stuck then urping something up is different to me. It is closer to vomit than burp, but it doesn't take near the effort from the gut that a flu-like vomit does. Urping up something stuck takes effort on my part. Either working my gut muscles, or gulping some Water to start the launch sequence, or sticking my finger down my throat. A PB happens all on its own. I can PB even if I don't feel stuck. I'll just think it is going to be a normal burp and up comes some food or slime. Just like a baby brings up some formula. Hope this helps.
