PB or Vomit after getting stuck???

Recommended Posts

ok so here's my question..what's the difference between vomiting and PB'ing AFTER a stuck episode?

Like a lot of people, sometimes i get excited and one of the bites is too big or not chewed well enough and i'm in pain but it ALWAYS goes down..well not last night! That was my first PB (i think)....i went walking outside for fresh air, breathing deep, praying for it to pass with no luck.. at one point i just yelled "GO down or come up! I DON"T CARE!!! I just want the pain to stop!"...and about 10 seconds later stuff came up...it was weird because it was definately not vomit..it just kind of poured out (sorry, it's graphic)...that happened 3 times and then at home it sounded more like a vomit but it still wasn't...it was just the chewed food.....that was about an hour afterwards...THEN i felt better...

So was it a PB or vomit? I'm still assuming it was a PB?

What you described is vomit from being stuck. A PB is more like a burp and a portion of the food comes up rather than everything. A PB is usually from eating too much or too fast while the vomit, I've found, is from getting something stuck (not chewing, wrong food, etc) or the band being too tight.

The volume and "pouring out" you noticed is from the slime. I've actually had the slime come out my nose too. Delightful!

Some people use PB (productive burb) as a name for what you have described. I've seen it used interchangeably with burping up stuff and vomitting up stuck stuff.

For me, a PB is just that, a burp where I bring up something. It produces more than air.

Being stuck then urping something up is different to me. It is closer to vomit than burp, but it doesn't take near the effort from the gut that a flu-like vomit does. Urping up something stuck takes effort on my part. Either working my gut muscles, or gulping some Water to start the launch sequence, or sticking my finger down my throat.

A PB happens all on its own. I can PB even if I don't feel stuck. I'll just think it is going to be a normal burp and up comes some food or slime. Just like a baby brings up some formula.

Hope this helps.

Oh, for me, its like vomiting but not as bad. Nothing ever just pours out of me, it comes out after a lot of effort, loudly! It sounds like vomiting, it has the same muscular actions, its just not that awful half digested acidy experience, and not in such huge quantity, and its not accompanied by nausea or anything like the stomach cramping discomfort that vomiting involves. Its a stuck episode, followed by the sure signs for me, a specific cramp right where my band must be and a strange one right to the right of my bellybutton. I know then I have just enough time to get to somewhere private. I can control it for as long as I need to.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
