Hello and just starting to research and a couple of questions.
I think you will get your answers at the seminars. My clinic is a "center of excellence" They have never lost a patient and very few complications. I think you should find out just what the statistics are where you are going. I'm sure that since you asked about complications here you will hear from everyone who had them. There are a lot more who never had anything go wrong. Keep reading and learning. Sharon

mushy diet
Just having surgery can make you tired for awhile. I slept for 48 hours after mine. Just got up every few hours to eat, walk and potty and then fell back into bed. Be sure you are getting enough calories. I kept track of mine the first 2 weeks and at first I was only getting about 700 a day. Now I could probly get 7000. I don't seem to have any restriction (surgery was 10/26) Also be sure you get enough protien....60-80 gr. a day. And of course enough sleep! Sharon

i'm tired and depressed
Protien bullets have about 45 gr of protien and can be added to water and drank. I won't lie and say they are delicious but they do give you lots of protien. Our clinic encourages us to get liq. protien. They are all so different. I was started on mushies before I left the hosp. Now 2 weeks post op I can eat soft foods with no problem and it sounds like many of you are still on liq. It makes me wonder if it really matters what we eat as long as we can tolerate it. Bandster, I'm so glad you are feeling better. Reminded me of when I was young and broke all the time. Hang in there. Sharon

Using Weight Watchers Point System
OOOPs.....I didn't think my first post "took" I got banded on the 28th. Still gassy. I updated my ticker because now I've lost 10#. Long way to go. I should add that when doing ww it would be a good idea to concentrate on getting in 60mg protien before you let youself use up points on junk food.sharon

Banded Nurses?
Here's another nurse. I'm independent which means I bill medicade directly for the work I do with private in home patients. Actually I only have 1 now. I'm trying to retire. I only work 1-2 days a week because they need me there as the case manager at least once a week. Before this I worked 20 years in med surg ans ER, then 10 in psych and now 10 as pdn. It's been interesting. Sharon

Should Medicare/Medicaid cover the band?
I now see that that question said medicare/medicaid....I think Medicaid on the other is a freebie for people who aren't working. I have very mixed feelings about that paying. I guess if a person is disabled by thier weight, it would be cheaper in the long run to get them slimmed down enough to become prductive tax paying citizens. Sharon

Should Medicare/Medicaid cover the band?
I'm glad they do. That's how I got it. Another good point is that the rest of the insurance usually eventually follow suit when medicare does something . Sharon

Drinking Lots of Alcohol
The thing you should be thinking about besides calorie consumption is how you are going to pay for your liver transplant. I'm an RN...Not trying to preach, just being realistic.

lap band cookbook

I'm one week from being banded and I hate to cook. I cooked for the family I grew up in later and my own 6 kids and I think I'm just burned out. My plan is to live mainly on pre-made meals like lean cousine, wieghtwatchers etc. I'm hoping one at a time will be enough after banding (Now I need at least 2 at a time) Am I being realistic? I have a bunch of nutri-system meals from my last failed diet. I plan to puree some of those for the mushie stage. Do you think that will work? Any advise is welcome.

Whats the worst you've heard?
When reading all these notes, I got wondering what does a person say to someone who has lost a lot of weight? Is it better to ignore it or comment? It sounds like if they say you are looking great, it insinuates you weren't before and if they ignore it, like they didn't notice. I haven't got my band yet and I don't really know what I would want people to say.

Any September bandsters out there???
Hi, Hopefully I'll have my band by or in Sept. I have an appointment with my surgeon next week. Everything else is done and ins. approved it. I'm so tired of waiting. I started this process in April. Believe it or not, I hadn't heard of lapband before then. I love this site.
