  1. I've tried to find the answer so please be patient with me if it's in here somewhere and I missed it. I'm wondering just where food gets stuck. As I understand it, when we have restriction the food will stay in the upper small pouch longer. When we chew well enough and eat slowly we don't get stuck. So does that mean the food is passing easily into the lower part of the stomach and not getting stuck in the passage way? It's not susposed to go into the lower part for awhile. So what happens when it's stuck and the person has a PB? I've had surgery, 1 fill and no restriction. I just got thinking about this and can't figure out the answer.
  2. Well, here's one no one has mentioned. My sister had her teeth wired shut for months. Dentists were doing it if Dr's recomended it. I think it was about 30 years ago. She lost a lot of weight for awhile. I think she was drinking optifast or something through a stwaw. Then she discovered that there were other things she could get through that straw. Like melted ice cream and shakes etc. She has dieted her way to about 400 pounds now.
  3. I think you need to give way more responsability to your 14 yr old. You didn't say when you were having surgery but I'm assuming you have some time to get him prepared. I know a lot of 12 yr olds that babysit. I understand the fighting issue. If y ou make him the baby sitter and she knows he's in charge, he might make more of an effort to act like the "adult". Can you start leaving them alone for longer times now? Pay him for babysitting? You will no doubt be home the same day, but you could start practicing now, what they should do if you aren't. Who is driving you back and forth from the hosp? I wish I lived near you! Keep us up to date on your plans.
  4. These are before. Wish I had afters!
  5. I have a TOMTOM and love it. The Grandchildren are fasinated watching us move down the "roads" and we take it along even if we know where we are going, just so they are entertained. They have a DVD player and game boys but get tired of those and want to watch "Tommy".
  6. Thanks Julie. I've been wondering that too.
  7. DUCKS dive under childrens kiddie sheets SWEAR
  8. Wow I agree. What a group of beatuiful women!
  9. You are probably retaining water. Are you pre menstraul? Are you drinking 64 oz a day? Are you getting at least 60 gm of protien? Be sure you aren't eating too few cal. You are not going to fail! The band works! Hang in there!
  10. I'm ashamed to say I've only lost 15. I don't have any restriction but that's no excuse because I've been eating way to much crap. I can't seem to keep my greedy little paws out of the candy.:cry
  11. I was told not to drive if I was taking narcotic pain meds. I drove home on the 3rd day after surg (I had been staying in a hotel for a couple days following surgery) He said there was no limit to walking, 10# weight lifting limit.
  12. Hi everyone, How did you survive the holidays? Yesterday I thought I had lost a pound in spite of all the unhealthy snacking I've been doing. Today the pound was back and it had doubled! I should go back to my pre-op diet and clear out the carbs. Next fill is the 15th.
  13. Hi Holly, This is the first time I saw this thread. I was banded 10/28/07. Had 1 fill and have no restriction. The Holidays have been so hard. I think I should go back on the pre surg diet for awhile to clean out the carbs and stop the carb cravings.
  14. Sounds like you have lots of motivation. I'll bet you suceed.
  15. There is something called orthostatic hypotension. Your BP drops suddenly when you stand . If you have somone around that can check it sitting and standing have it checked. Meanwhile drink a lot more fluid. If you are on BP meds you probably need an adjustment. Also sit for awhile when you go from lying down to standing. Be sure you have something sturdy to hold onto when you get up. Good luck
  16. I also want to wish all my bandster friends a Very Merry Blessed Christmas and a slim New Year!
  17. I was banded 10/28, had a fill a couple weeks ago and have no restriction. I've still not regained anything which I'm happy about because I always gained at Christmas time. I would do again in a heartbeat because I know it will work for me. I'll see that it does.
  18. Well, none of the rest of us died.:rose: Seriously, everyone has flashes of "what if" before surgery. Just don't dwell on it. Millions of people have done it and are fine. You'll be fine too. Sharon
  19. Thanks Brad, You have been very helpful. I'm so glad you've joined us. Sharon
  20. That's what I'm afraid of!
  21. In july of 2005 I was vacationing at a remote northern wi Lake with some of my grown kids and my sister and some of her grown kids. My sister weighs over 450. We shared a cabin and one morning she just stopped breathing as we sat at the table talking. I felt for a pulse and there was none. I yelled to the other cabins and said call 911,,,cone and help me! We had a terrible time getting her on the floor but we did and started cpr ( I was the only that knew it but they learned fast) It took 20 min for the first responders to come and they had a defibulater and got her heart started. We had to ventilate her for another 29 mun before an ambulance could get there. It took about 8 guys to get her on the gurney and her fat was just hanging over the sides. In spite of my fear for her, I was shocked. She went to one hosp and then was med flighted to a larger one. During all this she arrested 5 more times but did survive it. After her discharge, I talked to her about WLS and she said "I will if you do" (She sees us as about the same size even though she weighs a couple hundred pounds more ) I said I would and started researching. I had never heard of LB at that point but when I researched it I knew that was for me. I drove her too all the meetings and appointments and did the insurance research etc and then when she was all approved she backed out. She lives to eat. if she can't eat she would just as soon die. I wanted the surgery from the minute I heard of it. I don't ever want to have 8 men have trouble loading me on a gurney! I don't want my fat draping over the sides! I know witho9ut a doubt that that's where I would get at the rate I was going. Every diet I ever went on netted me a gain of 2x what I lost. I'm also a nurse and have my own memories of trying to turn, clean up and do procedures on the really huge patients...NOT good memories. I don't want to be some other nurses nightmare patient!
  22. You hit the nail on the head. Your muscles turn into mush when you lay around. It's not unusual to get sweaty and maybe nauesated too. Another thing to watch for with those symptoms is low blood sugar...but I bet it's just the post surgery weakness.......which will go away as you move more.
  23. Ahhh, thanks. Happy birthday and Merry Christmas to you!
