  1. The Vitamin aspect does remain for ever but your body does adapt and you will start to absorb more calories. There are these little tiny things in your small intestine called villi. They are like fingers that grab up calories and absorb them. When they bypass part of the small intestine, suddenly there are fewer villi in there to suck up the calories. However, your body quickly figures that out. Crazy isn't it. So your small intestine starts to grow more villi in the part that has not been bypassed. After a while, you may have about the same number you had before surgery so you absorb about the same amount of calories again but you still can't eat enough for all of the vitiamins that you need due to the size of your pouch. So you will need to take vitiamins and Calcium the rest of your life.
  2. I use My Fitness Pal on line and on my iPhone. I used it before and after surgery. It really helps and there are a lot of us on there pre and post op. It has such a huge database you can look things up before you eat them. It also helps with tracking calories, Protein, etc. My Nut told me preop to stick to around 1200 calories a day. That seemed to work. I am a really slow loser but I did drop about 13 pounds in three months. Not great but good for me. If you decide to join my fitness pal (free) you can add me as a friend. I am on there everyday. I wish you the best of luck!
  3. WTG! It will be all over in no time!
  4. Oh I was too! But it all goes so quick. You will be fine! If I can do it, you can. I'm a big wimp.
  5. That's Wonderful! It is such an amazing process. It can be a hard road but when you have moments like these it is sooooo worth it.
  6. Hi, I had/have Aetna so I can help. How is pre-authorization for the 3 month plan submitted? Do you do that before the 3 month prep-regimen and do some sort of follow-up or do you submit for the first time after the 3 months? Everything is submitted after you have completed the three month plan. Also, is the BMI submitted from my initial appointment or is it from right before the surgery? They used my BMI at the first visit, showed the progress I made and I had to included a 2-3 year weight history. I got this from my OB/GYN.
  7. Heck, I had to turn in mine for three months. Then she looked at them and said I should have lost more weight. Ah, that's why I am getting surgery. lol
  8. YOU DID IT!!! Congrats I am really happy for you. There will be rough patches but for the most part each day gets better. Don't rush the healing process but you know the drill walk and sip. :-)
  9. You'll be OK. Have faith. The insurance companies like to torture us a bit but for the most part, it all works out. Hang in there!
  10. I had Dr. McCloskey at MaGee. They were awesome!
  11. HI! I am also from the Burgh. I wil be 41 tomorrow! ugh lol I am worm2872 on MFP as well. I am on there everyday. Congrats on your loss so far!
  12. YEA! That's wonderful. I happy you are doing well! Congrats
  13. Hi All, I cannot believe it has been over three months since my surgery. I am down 60 pounds overall from 275 and down 48 from surgery. My loss has been pretty steady, on the slow side, but I am OK with that since it keeps coming off. I have had some gains here and there but they don't last. My exercising is getting better. I am walking every day before work. It is not a lot but at least it is better than nothing. I am down from a 22/24 to a 14/16. Just bought some new clothes for work. I was lucky to have some horded away from before. I do get depressed some days, looking for more weight loss, missing certain foods, etc. but this is the best decision I have ever made. When I get down I go look at my size 14 jeans LOL. I am turning 41 tomorrow and I am not unhappy this year the way I was last year about my weight. It is a LONG AND HARD road but it gets easier every day. I try not to think about the future and take it one day at a time. I wrote on MFP that I carried a 50 pound bag of salt up the basement steps last week and that was struggle. Then is dawned on me that I was carrying that weight around and more. My highest weight in 1/2011 was 298. That was a real shocker to me! For the pre-op folks out there: It is worth it. If I can do this you can too.

  15. Well, I have not had that many. I think the people I work with are just afraid to say anything to me because I am HR but a few now and then would be nice. Sometimes I think I look the same. Take the them when you get them. But I can say I feel the same way. When I do get them my insecurities come out and I get really nervous but I do manage a thank you. :-)
  16. WOW CONGRATS!! You look great! I am soooo happy for you!! I have not had the guts yet to do more photos. I guess I am scared there will not be results.
  17. Actually, your weight loss looks pretty good. I have not used Hay Robb but I found Syntrax Nectar Chocolate Truffle was the easiest after surgery for me. I still have it every morning. The unjury is good too.
  18. Jeff, Congrats and welcome to your new life!
  19. Rice is a nasty little thing. Hope you feel better soon. I learned my lesson and it was only two small bites.
  20. And of course me. Heather Mcclelland Cook. Awesome idea!
  21. Yes I did too. Wow. I am thinking it was a food thing too. I just can't pinpoint it. Wow! What an experience. Jess, hope you feel better.
