  1. It's normal.. at least it was for me.. I cheated 3 times.. It's not advised obviously, but it does get easier after the surgery.. For the first week or so I didn't even want / miss food.. By one month out, I am eating only 300-500 cals a day because I just can't get more in.. I'm sure that will increase in coming weeks.. But it is worth the effort to power through the pre-op and get through the surgery.. Life will return to a new normal after a while.. It's all a part of the process.

  3. If you have a boston market near you they have a lot of healthier choices. I have been getting fat free deli meats to hold me over and making rolls with meat cheese and mustard. Wendy's chili is great..
  4. I think you hit the nail on the head there.. I know my vibe has changed since surgery and weight loss.
  5. I was averaging 8 / week but the last week was more like 2-5. I also had about 140lbs to drop so it's going to come off quicker at first, plus men generally lose quicker from what I see. As long as it's coming off, that's what matters.
  6. just turn it on them, and tell them why they DO need it.. That will get them out of the room quickly.
  7. I'm a believer in laying your dirty laundry out out early.. If they leave over something as silly as the surgery then where they really worth having around anyway? I am lucky that I have my wife and don't have to do the whole dating thing anymore.. Before meeting her, I was in a long term relationship with someone who was not good for me at all.. When we split, I got right out there again, and had a bunch of dates, but to be honest I just didn't click with them after a few weeks for whatever reason.. I think your friend might be looking at the wrong types of dates.. For guys, we don't really have to worry about that too often.. Yes, you will find shallow girls out there, but for the most part they are less focused on stuff like that and more on the personality, CONFIDENCE, and stability of a guy.. If you sit there and worry about your insecurities, everyone around you can and will sense that, and it's like a human repellant. I'd keep with what you are doing.. Work on yourself, your happiness and don't go searching for ms. right.. When you are where you need to be, it will happen.. but, my all means get out there and get a couple of "work outs" on that new body.. haha
  8. that is so awesome.. congrats and keep up the good work
  9. I'm 1 month out and can take large drinks pretty easily.. makes drinking isopure much easier.. lol
  10. I had a $500 out of pocket max which I had already spent 200 on co-pays so the hospital bill came to a total of $300. On another note.. the total bill was close to 40k for just the hospital. Thank god for insurance.
  11. Wow, these things seem to come in pairs.. I hit a milestone goal of 50lbs down, and then hit my mini goal of 275! woohoo Next up to to drop the morbidly part of obese which should come at about 270 according to the evil bmi chart. Trying to be a good patient and NOT ride my motorcycle until may 1st which will be 6 weeks post surgery... I'm trying.. I did get the oil done and replaced the battery so she's all ready to go in 10 days 3 hours and 20 minutes Tonight I had a buffalo burger patty with munster cheese and sauteed onions.. Ok, I had 3 bites of buffalo burger and was full.. My wife had the rest.
  12. I track everything I eat with my fitness pal app.. I just don't pay attention to their recommended amounts because it is a bit off even when adjusted down in calories for post vsg. My nut didn't give me a number to strive for.. She said she wants me to have protein with every meal and eat that first.. I almost never get beyond the protein in meals.
  13. I used pretty much every powdered seasoning there was lol, and even a little franks red hot.
  14. I don't really look at their goals on there.. I wish they had a feature for wLS patients. I just use to to log food and see what calories/ protein / fat I have taken in. I avg between 400-600 on most days. usually around 500. but when I adjusted my calories down it said something like 20 grams of protein.
  15. I have to take my omeprazole 40mg pill every morning first thing or I feel it.. Usually once I take it I'm good for the day with maybe some flare up at night sometimes.. It's not exactly the most thrilling thing.. but It's manageable.
  16. Yes, you can find them.. also check the freezer isles and the natural foods isles.. sometimes they have them there, and those ones to me taste much better then canned. I got tired of creamed soups pretty quickly, so don't go filling up your cabinets.
  17. Yea, mine isn't related to eating either.. it's pretty much all day. I also have zero allergies.. and it only started post surgery.. like I said.. it's only a minor annoyance but if there was a remedy I'd be all ears
  18. I have the same exact thing going on.. It's the only real annoyance that I have to deal with. If you happen to find a remedy please let me know.
  19. I just moved to soft solids and one of the things on my list is meatloaf which I had last night and while I can't eat much of it, it went down fine.
  20. I stopped snoring, fit into clothes that where in the fattie can't fit them pile. My belly doesn't hang out of the bottom of my shirts. Those are just some of the little things that have made me glad I did this.
  21. Dumping syndrome, anemia risk, didn't really want to screw with absorption of minerals, higher gal bladder issue risk, more extensive surgery with higher complication risk. Just a few of my reasons... but I would suggest reading up on a RNY board to see how others are doing with it as well as reading up here on how we are doing before making your choice.
  22. ha! They did leave mine on until I was discharged. My legs where all tingly for like an hour after they removed them.
  23. Well, they really doped me up to try and get my heart rate down, so I was seeing blurry and double for the first night.. The next morning I requested to stop all drugs. Once I came out of the haze, it wasn't too bad.. Hurt a bit getting up from the couch, or bed.. had to sleep on my right side because the left was where they pulled the stomach out of. It was a bit uncomfortable to drink at first.. felt like my stomach was full of air and the Water had nowhere to go.. Burping helped a lot... Still does a month out with eating but not water anymore. The pain pretty much was gone after about day 4 for me.. Just incision pain when moving, which I think was fine for the most part by day 6 or so.. I still have a couple of tender spots that I think are the lower parts of the holes where they had the tools (maybe muscles that where cut) but it's very minor. Overall, this was my first surgery, and while it's work to get used to my new lifestyle, it really wasn't that bad, and just a month out I feel fine like almost nothing happened.. Except I can only eat a couple of oz. at a time, and dropped almost 50lbs.
  24. I didn't really have much pain at 2 weeks out.. a tweak here and there if I bent wrong.. As long as you have an office job, I would think you should be fine.
  25. One month check up done! 2 pounds til I hit that big 5-0 down! Doc says everything looks good, and was happy with my loss so far. He put me on some medication to help reduce chances Gal Stones. I forget the name. I am to start with one a day, and then move on to 2 a day starting next week and for the next 3 months. He said some people have adverse reactions to it, so he is leaving it up to me to find the right dose, or no dose at all.. I will be filling it tomorrow. The NUT seemed happy with my diet (I document using my fitness pal app) and I was cleared to move on to soft solids and gradually work my way onto solids next week. I'm still not able to get more then 2 or so oz. of food down.. I hope that changes over time.. It's very hard to get enough Protein without being able to eat more.. I'm going to get some powders to try and boost it a bit. Water seems to go down fine though. Tonight I have prepared a meat loaf with bakes mashed potato and sauteed mushrooms.. I got down about 1.5 oz of meatloaf and was done.. This who starch last makes me sad sometimes.. the potatoes looked soooo good. Oh well.. there will be time for that when I am at or past goal!
