Gerd/Reflux

After surgery, how bad is it really?

What medication is everyone taking after surgery? I'm on Prilosec & Carafate already & I haven't been sleeved yet.

Thanks everyone!

Hey Molly,

I think it differs for everyone, luck of the draw type thing...

I never had a problem with gerd only just a tiny bit in pregnancy. I had just a little bit of it in the early days out from surgery.

I have no problems now.

I have to take my omeprazole 40mg pill every morning first thing or I feel it.. Usually once I take it I'm good for the day with maybe some flare up at night sometimes.. It's not exactly the most thrilling thing.. but It's manageable.

Hi Molly. I'm taking 2 Zantac a day. I never had this problem before. Now if I forget the Zanatc I know it right away. What a nuisance.

My surgeon said my gerd could get worse....He said I should think about the bypass. :o

I have gerd which has overall been better since being sleeved. However, once in awhile I still get an attack. I am on omeprazole 40mg daily to control it.

Anytime. Always happy to provide experience and guidance.

Mine's really bad...going to the doc tomorrow for my monthly check up about it. I've taken several different medications for it and nothing ever seems to help and I pop tums like candy. I think my doc may consider sleeve to bypass revision to get control of it...I'm a little worried about that...but on the other hand I'm so miserable on a daily basis that I'll take whatever relief I can get.

I take Omeprosol daily as well. My cousin wanted to get the sleeve but, her doctor told her it was best if she went with RNY because of her GERD. Molly, IMO best to get all pros and cons from your doctor on it.

Prior to surgery I had reflux all the time! I took Zantac on a regular. After surgery I was put on omeprazole 40mg for 3 months. Since my prescription has run out the reflux has not returned which makes me VERY happy!
