thanks u have now validated for me that I need to choose the right foods. I have been eating very small portions prob 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup portions 3 times daily. but I can tolerate some bread, crackers, and carbs that arent good ones. i tend to go for them instead of healthier choices. but now I am set on eating only foods that are the most nutritious for me. thank you! your right, its about changing what up in ur head as well that makes the difference!

You guys ive lost only 24 lbs!! but i think im losing inches rather than weight, i was at a stall for 3 weeks!! but i didnt let it discourage, i keep reminding myself the sleeve it's just a tool and not a miracle surgery so ive noticed that even though im eating less portions i wont lose any weight if i keep choosing the wrong foods. So it's been a struggle but i thank God i made this decisions! this website and all your testimonies had helped me a lot on a daily basis and i wanted to thank you! Remember it took most of us a lifetime to gain this weight we shouldn't give up just because we dont see the weight shed fast enough. This is a about healthy living not just looking thin..that's just bonus

Try to mix miralax in your protein shakes to make you go, at least every other day until you are more regular. Also stay away from carbonated drinks! your cravings will go away give yourself about a month! Good luck!

Zazi reacted to PdxMan in will I ever be able to guzzle or drink water normally post gastric sleeve
Not sure if you realize this, but you posted this to your personal blog, not as a question to the forum, so you won't get the same exposure. But, to answer your question, you need some perspective.
Pre-sleeve, your stomach could hold, let's say 80 oz fully distended. You just had most of your stomach removed and it now has a capacity of around 6 oz and can't distend. So, before, you would take an 8 oz bottle and chug it down, no problem. 8 oz into an 80 oz container ... you used 10% of the space. Now, fast forward to post-sleeve. 8 oz into a 6 oz container ... hmmm ... it's not going to be the same result.
I'm over 18 months out and no, I cannot guzzle water the way I used to. I can't eat food the way I used to, either. But that is the way I wanted it and needed it. Once you get used to it, it is no big deal. I actually appreciate the fact I can't inhale food and/or drink now. That is part of what got me into trouble.

    Thank you guys!!
Well a typical day for me is wake up at 6 am have my coffee (black with 2 tsp of reg sugar cause artificial sweeteners trigger my migraines) then around 9:30 i have my shake (which is blended with half banana and some miralax for well u know haha) then around 12:30 i have a light lunch which usually consist of tuna, cottage cheese, salad, shredded chicken , etc but no more than 1 cup. (i can hardly consume a cup)
and i usually snack a lot like sugar snap peas, zero carb pork rines (high in protein), cucumber w lime salt olive oil and chilli pepper (pretty deelich) and at dinner i'll either have another protein shake or a cup of some kind of protein. I've realized as long as my intake of protein is above 50 grams i hardly get hungry.
I am sooo freaking happy i decided to make this change in my life! wish you all of you the BEST!! <3

My Dietitian told me from now on that I will not be able to have anything with real sugar in it ever again. Using splenda, Truvia, or other artificial sweetners is just fine.

In my experience, there is nothing to do but wait it out or throw up whichever your body decides to do! Trying new food can be a bad experience when it fails. I know because I try new stuff a lot. I have learned to take one bite and then wait. If after a few minutes it is ok I try another bite. If not I stop. I have a sweet tooth too. Making sugar free fat free pudding at home works great and then some fat free whipped topping...mmmm. And as long as I eat a small amount it is fine. I also like sugar free Popsicles. Also, if you want to try making different kinds of protein shakes try going to DashingDish.com and try some of her recipes, some taste very good. Anybody else know "safe" ways to get that sweet taste without the feeling sick?

I would contact your doctor about it, and ask him or her what you should do about it. Don't mess around with infection. OK? Good luck.

Depends on your surgeon, mine requested only the day before surgery to have a clear liquids diet and everything went fine!

Is there a store or a 7-11 somewhere? You could eat tuna salad, but make sure you chew it to mush or buy a pre-made protein drink, those are usually at a convenience store or a drug store. Good luck! :-)

Dont be scared everyone is different. I myself had no complications after surgery. No pain , just a few days of feeling nauseous..but htats about it. I didnt even need any of the pain meds I was given. You will be fine and the things you go through or what i have encountered were small things and not horrible. But i am finding out 6 weekds post op that your mind and body have got to be on the same page. this is a big adjustment from your past eating habits etc. but at the end of the day i know it will be worth the ride. I pray you do okay and its a new beginning for you as for all of us that need this tool to be healthy.

I am on quite a bit of "head meds" and have been for a dozen years. My WLS doctor told me to take them all up to the night before the surgery and that it was essential I take a xanax the morning of the surgery with a small sip of water...Yes anxiety is normal but a Dr who thinks a patient should quickly detox from psychiatric meds does not know what he is talking about. Coming off those meds too quickly could have VERY severe effects. Don't mean to scare you but question it.

Wow, so sorry about thanksgiving. At least mashed potatoes will be ok by Xmas. I know how that feels I remember missing chewing. I am only 5, almost 6 mos but I tried to eat pizza once regular food was cleared and getting really sick. Lesson learned, I am much better at judging now.
