BIG FAT PEOPLE!
My surgery was 1 year ago Monday and I meet with my surgeon next Monday. We also have a one year nutrition class. I'm over 95% toward my goal!! I still have problems though with my trigger foods. I choose not to eat rolls or bread because I want more and I know I still need my protein. Will be interested in what they say at our class as everyone there will be one year out!! It's hard to watch others eat bread and some of those things I use to love, but I love that I could buy smaller clothes!! Wish I was addicted to exercise but I'm not. Once my biopsy on my leg heals, I can swim again...(Stitches out tomorrow and results....Dr. was pretty sure one on my back and this one are benign). I'm almost 67 so also trying to do brain exercises as my mom wasn't heavy but had alzeimer's. I'm wearing the size she wore which I have never done.

Dying To Be Thin...
My surgeon in Muskegon, Mi doesn't do bands either!!!! Monday was my 1 year mark!!1 You can do this!!! My doctor wouldn't let me have bread, Pasta, rice etc. for 6 months, then whole grain....I waited 8 months and lived to talk about it. LOL!!! I love that and it actually was easier not eating it at all than eating a small amount. Glad you are doing well now!!! Keep us posted!

On The Verge Of Mental Collapse
I was 2 weeks before the surgery on liquids as well as 3 weeks after. My daughter told me if I did the 5 weeks right, I would never have to do that again. My surgery was 11/12/12 so I was on liquids for Thanksgiving and pureed foods for Christmas. I have lost 91 pounds and my weight fluctuated day to day. I remember I was in tears in the beginning, wondering what I had done to myself and feeling sorry for myself. I went from 225.5 at my highest to 134.2 so am close to goal. You can do this, but don't stress about the scale. Was wearing 22/24 or 2x and am now wearing 12P and got into my daughter's 8P. Not sure I could sit in them though!

Profile Help
I can't figure out where to put my weight lost, etc. I wish they had left it alone!!

Coffee
I could have decaf right from the start. My nutritionist said that we could have regular, after we got in 64 ounces of water...because it was a diuretic. Other surgeons say something different I know. I know that my heart doesn't race as much as I have difficulty with that and my "boobs" aren't as lumpy so I only occasionally have caffeine.

When will I stop being pissed off?
I take meds for anxiety, so I may not have the answer. I had 5 weeks of liquids and found it very difficult to be upbeat!! My daughter who had the same surgery before me, told me that if I did the 5 weeks correctly, I never had to do that again. On top of that, my surgery was the 12th of Nov. so I was still on liquids for Thanksgiving, etc. It does get better. They had me walking the first day, so I tried to increase that as I could. I think I was mad because I couldn't have some of the things I wanted to eat. Now that I'm almost a year out, I realize that it was easier not to eat the first bite than have only a little bit of some foods. Take it one day at a time, and if you need to one hour at a time. It will be worth it!!! Good luck!

How do you know if its dumping or a virus?
Did you have the sleeve??? I only had the runs a few times, and wondered the same as dumping is usually not with the sleeve. Never for 3 days in a row. I'd call your surgeon and check.

Very Concerned about protein tolerance
Try a different type of protein. I am almost a year out and still using Unjury which I like to supplement as I'm still trying to lose. When is your surgery??? My doctor required 2 weeks before of liquids, as well as 3 weeks of liquid proteins afterwards. I had a hard time with eggs and am just able to eat them now. Don't get discouraged.

Urgh feeling very frustrated 2 weeks post op tomorrow...guidance please help
It does get better!!!! I wondered at one point early on why I had done this. Now I still get sick if I forget and eat too fast but I wish I had done it sooner. I can do so many more things and am off so many meds that it is worth it. Good luck and keep in touch with us for support.

Calling All Sixties!
I'm 66 and Nov 12th I will be 1 year post sleeve. I was 225.5 at my highest weight at my first consultation. Weighed 136.2 this morning.... of course, I was in my birthday suit. Goal weight is 130 for normal BMI as I'm 5 feet 2 inches. Off meds for high blood pressure, cholesterol, all NAISDs, and many supplements. Still high protein since I'm still losing. Couldn't be happier!! Last night I was at my daughter's who is a doctor and also had the surgery 2 years ago, and I was wearing size 12. I fit into her 8P slacks and she told me to go shopping again.!! My sister and brother don't acknowledge my weight loss and I think there is jealousy or they think it was stupid to spend the money. Don't know....but my friends are amazed at what I have accomplished and so am I. I have walked 2 5 k's and I have had total knee replacement as well as arthritis in my feet/toes. Water aerobics is my exercise of choice though! Good luck to the newbies. You can do this if you want it...not anyone else.

Focus needs to change, my head is screwed up!
You can do this but just take one day at a time....even 1 hour at a time if need be. Went 8 months without bread, pasta, desserts...It is harder when you can have some... Still trying to lose the last 7 pounds but I will do it.

"Hair" Today, Gone Tomorrow...
I'm 66 and have baby fine hair. Have lost some, taking biotin twice a day, and my hair dresser showed me what is growing back. Actually wearing my hair longer now....for me. 11 months out and 88 pounds down. Now I can cover the hearing aides I got about 6 weeks ago.

Regretting surgery
Hang in there! Is this your first surgery?? The first week is really hard and I wondered what I had done. I'm 66 and now love that I did this and wish it was available when I was younger!!! It does get better! Remember, you had surgery, and it's always hard at the beginning.

Are there any good Dvd out there for over 60?
I'm 66 and was 65 when I had the sleeve. I tried a Spark People DVD when I first started exercising and couldn't do even the first part then. Haven't tried any since as I do water aerobics mainly, and try to walk as much as I can. Sorry I can't be more help!

Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under
I haven't posted in awhile on this forum. I am 5 ft 2 inches and I was sleeved Nov. 12, 2012. My highest weight before surgery was 225.5. I'm proud to say that I am now 139.4 and the goal weight the doctor set was 130. I'm 66 years old now, have walked two 5 ks. First time ever! I had total knee replacement 2 years ago so can't run the races but finished the last one in an hour. (Color Run) The weight loss has been steady, but I hang around at a weight for a couple of weeks and then will drop about 1/2 pound. I started out 2x or 22/24 and just bought size 12 pants, and size 14 jeans. I was lucky and never had stretch marks with all the weight I gained and my two pregnancies. I have flab but it is not as bad as I thought it would be and others don't notice it in my clothes. My husband of 43 years says I look so much better!! I am waiting to hear from the doctor if I can stay off my bi-pap which I've had for about 9 years, and am off all anti inflammatory, high blood pressure, and cholesterol meds. Still need a few meds and the bariatric fusion vitamins. My sister and brother don't acknowledge what I have done, but my friends and other family members do. You can do this for yourself only!

Eggs!
Eggs were one of the things I had problems with....depending on the day. Hard boiled with mayo with olive oil was the best way for me to eat them. Not always sure what food though makes me sick as I eat more than one type at a meal.
