Geminidrive got a reaction from Zen in Belly/tummy band and medication questions
I did not use a belly band.
    Pre-op med: Avapro for hypertension
Post-op: I was prescribed percocet for pain, didn't need it. Had to give myself lovenox injections, I took a chewable Multivitamin, b1, D, prilosec, calcium citrate (one month after surgery) Iron and I get a B12 shot every other month. Didn't need any gas meds or stool softeners.

Oh, I didn't need to crush any Vitamins or meds, but about 2 weeks after the chewable Multivitamins made me nauseous, had to switch to another Multivitamin.< /p>

I'm over 4 months out and have lost 74lbs, with much more to go. I'm glad to be able to climb the stairs with ease without huffing and puffing. It is also much better on my knees. . Life was good before, it will just get better!

Hey Susie, I'm praying for your dad and your family. I know worrying about a loved one can be stressful. I'm hoping you can find a way to visit your dad in person.

I love shopping online, but one of the things I vowed to do is to stop purchasing clothing online. Only because if I go to a store or mall that means I have to walk and then I will be getting added exercise.

I read a study that concluded that smokin' the devils lettuce after wls would make you a skinny retard playing video games in your mamas basement not a fat one. Just kidding , but having loads of experience [back in college]why torment yourself with the munchies during the losing phase, maybe that could be a non food reward for meeting goals.I know potheads aren't supposed to have goals just sayin ,if you had goals and that sort of thing was legal where you live.

Im 4 months post op an I will actually have 1/3 - 1/2 cup portion once a week. it my one and only cheat, and it goes down well. it doesnt make me gain or loose that day but its worth it to me lol. I was told by my nurse that carbs will get suck in my throat, or I would have dumping syndrome. well they dont lol Im happy about that. I can handle them in very small amounts. I havent told this to my nurse though. Really if its not affecting me in a negative way then I think its ok.

My trainer is so encouraging, he sends us all motivating messages, here is the message he sent today:

"Struggling with being consistent with your workouts...Lost 2 lbs last week, and gained 3lbs back this week...Mental is a little shaken, not stirred..."It's Alright"...Even on our knees we have the ability to stand up once again on our feet and...Keep Moving Forward. If no one said that they care today...I do! Now Go Get Back in the GAME!"
    Love him!!!

Isn't it funny how our surgeons slice is open, have to spread apart our innards and see all our guts and blobby yellow fat and we're so worried about making sure our little lady is trim?

Brandy, you have to tune out the family. This surgery can save your life. Yes, absolutely there are risks, but those risks, are very manageable if you get your surgeon, your nutritionist and your primary care dr. on the same page. Do everything they tell you to do. If you don't know something ask them. Follow the plan to the letter. Get in as best physical shape as you possibly can pre-op. I don't say that you have to run a marithon but be able to walk a mile without having to stop and not be winded. The better shape you are in, the better your recovery will be. Second, you have to get your mind around that this will be a major change in lifestyle. If your recreational life revolves round food and drink, then you have to reconcile that. Many people come on here and be just a week or so out and want to find out when they can have a glass or wine or go out to eat with their friends. All that will happen, but it takes some time to heal, and it takes some time to restructure your relationship with food. Make sure you are crystal clear with your drs. and your nutritionist about when you can do certain things, and STICK to that. This is how you minimize the risks that you are afraid of. I would rather be slightly uncomfortable for a few weeks or months, than live with obesity. Everyday you live like that, is one less day you have for your kids and your family. Obesity is a killer, just like ciggies, just like heavy drinking and drug use. You can do this, PLEASE don't let the family sway you. You've come far and you will do well, but you have to get your head and your body in the game. Good luck! Hang tough

A few years ago I found my personal trainer on CL, I still train with her now. She trains out of her home and is so much more affordable than a personal trainer in a gym. I have also tried a couple of trainers through Groupon or Living Social. That way I only pay a little to see if we are a match. I like to have another trainer that I enjoy working with for times when my trainer is out of town.
I am actually taking a personal training class right now. I enjoy it so much that I have decided to become certified so I can help other people reach their goals!

Good for you! I'm starting back with my Trainer on Friday's and Sunday’s this week and like you I’m excited. It's going to be tough at the start (My guy loves to push you to the limit) but it will be worth it in the end. Your trainer may also be able to help you on nutrition. Also, I don't know what health insurance you have but my insurance offers an additional program (at no additional cost) to speak with a Nurse, nutritionist and other health care professionals to work with you on all of your health care needs. This might be something your plan may have as well.

I had the surgery on 10/8, I was 398 today I am 328, down 70lbs and counting. I have not had any problems thus far, it has been a breeze, no pain, no gas, no mood changes. I hope to continue to work toward my goal weight. I would suggest that you carefully compare Sleeve vs. Bypass. Good Luck!

Geminidrive got a reaction from atPeace55 in Crazy Hair Loss! HELP!
I posted this on other threads:
    info from my dermatologist yesterday:
My dermatologist explained that the type of hair loss we are experiencing is called telogen effluvium and is more due to recent shock to your system, ie., weight loss, pain, recent surgery, over or under active thyroid, childbirth, medications and other underlying conditions not just lack of Protein. The dermatologist mentioned that one could lose over 50% of your hair, but that it will grow back in 5-8 months. She suggested using minoxidil, which will stimulate the growth of new hair faster. The less expensive brands are: (both 2%)
    * Equate which can be purchased at Walmart
    http://www.walmart.c...e&cat_id=976760
    * Kirkland Minoxidil which can be purchased at costco.
    Important instructions on use:
It is important that if you do use the minoxidil, it is to be placed on your scalp, do not rub it into your hair, it will just make your hair more brittle and susceptible to breakage. Do not let it drip onto your forehead as it will cause headaches. The best application is laying back preferably into a Shampoo sink.

The FITBIT and Myfitnesspal really work! I wear the fitbit religiously now. My colleague that sits in the office next to mine has motivated me, she works vigorously out every day and when I see her logs it makes me get off my but and work out.
