Anaphylaxis - should I call my surgeon
My surgeon once told me, "If you are concerned about something, I want to know about it." I'm sure your Dr. feels the same. Call them. What could it hurt?

Appetite
Your Dr. will be happy that you lost some after surgery. Don't sweat it. They know how hard this period is. Don't be too hard on yourself. Good luck and be careful with that first fill.

how do they do this test??
It looks like there are a couple of ways, but usually it is done with a skin prick. That's all I could find.

Like a Goodyear Blimp!
I have read on here that Crystal Light can cause gas. I don't drink it so I can't say for sure, but maybe you could try drinking something else (maybe Propel or plain water?) for a couple of days to see if that makes a difference. Hope this helps.

A-MAY-zing Bandits Monthly Exercise/Water Challenge
I'm sorry I neglected to post in last month's thread. I did meet the challenge for July though! :-) And I intend to do even more this month by adding some time in the sauna 5-6 days a week. At my gym it's an extra charge by the month (fancy infrared sauna) so I'm going to make sure I get my money's worth! It looks like everyone did great in July!! Woohoooooo!

Alcohol and the Band
I was told by the nutritionist that if I drink, don't drive. Not even if it is just ONE drink. Something to keep in mind.

Got banded in Springfield MO??
Paula, the only time I had pain on my left side (other than the normal that could be expected after surgery) was when I began working out about a month post-surgery. It was excruciating at times for about 2 days and I went to see Dr. Edwards about it. He said it was just from the new movement and not to worry. By the time I got to see him (it happened on a Thursday and he couldn't see me until Tuesday) it had gone completely away. That's all I know about port pain.

Got banded in Springfield MO??
Hi Paula! Welcome! Once you get off the liquids they'll just be a distant memory. I go for my 2nd fill today. I have had almost zero restriction for the last 3 weeks or so. Still, I've held my own. Anyway, I'll be back on liquids for a couple of days myself! :-)

I hit my Goal after almost 3 years
Congratulations to you both! That's great!

Got banded in Springfield MO??
Paisley, dancing sounds like fun! Keep up the good work! I enjoyed the day-long class mostly. I learned things there that I have taken along with me on this journey. I know your uncertainty must be frustrating, but hang in there! I doubt they would be sending you there already if it wasn't likely to happen. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you for the next couple of weeks. Be sure to let us know!

Got banded in Springfield MO??
It is a lot like Curves. It has the circuit, but I guess the main difference is that the machines are weight-resistant rather than hydraulic and that's supposed to be better. They also have bikes, ellipticals, treadmills and a room you can stretch or exercise in with a flat screen. They have some dvd's or you can bring your own. It's just a nice, friendly, CLEAN place to work out. I love it, in case you can't tell. :-)

Got banded in Springfield MO??
Thanks! I've been working out 5 days a week without fail. I go to Contours Express by the Price Cutter on E. Battlefield and it's really working so far! They are really nice there and that helps with motivation to keep it up.

Kindness to Strangers
What a nice thought you have there. It kind of reminds me of my favorite old John Prine song, "Hello In There", but his song is aimed at the elderly. Same sentiment though. Because of his song, I not only smile at older folks, but, if appropriate at all, I strike up a conversation with them. When I'm on the other side of this weight I think I'll do the very same with overweight individuals. Thanks for your post. Who Has Joined A Gym Or Do You Work Out At Home?
It had been ages since I belonged to a gym, but after being banded I knew it was the way to go for me. I joined a Contours Express one month after surgery and I've been loving it! Mine is $35 paid monthly with minimal membership fee. It's a circuit somewhat like Curves, but they use weight-resistant machines rather than hydraulic. Only women are allowed there. I recommend it! Got banded in Springfield MO??
Sorry I've been missing here lately!! After my fill on 6/28 (3 cc in 10 cc band) I haven't been feeling much restriction. I am, however, feeling satisfied after just a smaller than normal amount of food is consumed. Not only that, but the satiated feeling lasts for a good long while! In the first 2 weeks after my fill, I lost 7 pounds. I had a great follow-up visit with my Exercise Physiologist, too! My BMI is down 5% with literally no lean/muscle weight lost...all fat! My heart rate, resting and working, is also down (working HR is down 20 beats per minute). So....doing very well here so far! Good luck to you all with any obstacles you are facing pre- or post-surgery!

Got banded in Springfield MO??
mazie, it was mainly very positive, sharing tips on where we like to clothes shop in the area and what is good to eat. However, there were 2 women there who, like you say, drank soda and coffee and admitted to eating chips and chocolate because they "went down well". It was a good lesson on what not to do. One of them had been banded in Mexico, then went to a Kansas City Dr. who told her it was "unrealistic" to think his patients would not drink soda. So much for support from your Dr.!

Got banded in Springfield MO??
Yes, Mazie, I forgot to mention that he did come down to look at the Fluoroscope and said everything looked good. Woohooo! The waiting room for the fluoroscopy was like a casual support group! We were all just yakking it up! Fun! Update on fill: I couldn't finish a cup of yogurt! I was hungry in a couple of hours, but I feel good about the fill. :-)

Got banded in Springfield MO??
Got my first fill today. They gave me 3 in my VG band. He said it might be tight, but I feel good. So far only water and tomato soup. Later tomorrow I can try a protein shake. Next day cottage cheese. :-) The fill was entirely uneventful, thanks goodness!

Got banded in Springfield MO??
mazie, my surgery was on 5/14/07, so about 6 weeks ago. Yes, I feel speshul having the Dr. there. lol I have the larger band. I don't want any problems, but I hope he's not too conservative on first fills. That said, I'm a little nervous leaving for the lake (Bull Shoals, Protem area) 2 days later to be with 16 relatives...only one of which know about my surgery. I'm thinking they will know something is up even if I can eat some regular foods. But if I'm still on broth or full liquids the jig will be up! Oh, well.

Got banded in Springfield MO??
I'm going in for my first fill tomorrow. Because Dr. Edwards also repaired a hiatal hernia at the time of banding, he asked to be there to watch the fluoroscope for any irregularities. I'm psyched! I need more restriction! And i definitely need it over this holiday at the lake! FYI, the next New Beginning Support Group for Dr. Edwards' patients will be on Monday, July 9.

A-May-zing Bandits July Challenge
Count me in! I'll be doing all/most of my exercising at the gym because I just can't take the heat. M/W/F I'll be doing the "circuit" at Contours Express and Tu/Th it will be a combination of elliptical and treadmill. Thanks for making this challenge. I think it will be fun!!
