Queen In Me reacted to clk in Today i found out that i streched my pouch
The only thing I'm going to contribute here is that I urge any new and researching folks to wait out the results of this thread before jumping to conclusions.
It is a physical impossibility for a properly sleeved stomach to first of all, stretch that much, especially that quickly (especially during the swollen healing phase) and all without the pain and vomiting that follows a sleever eating even a bite too many. Second, to stretch to the point where you could rapidly regain 20 pounds is something I have never, ever seen here. Anyone I've seen regain has regained on sliders. And immediately post op? No way.
Anyone that's been operated on can see there is something missing here - either on the OP's or surgeon's end. I reserve my own judgment for when we know more, but acknowledge that we can't ever really "know" anything about this situation because we're trusting in social media without any way to prove anything.
Remember those first few days post op? I clearly remember not being able to sip more than three spoonfuls of broth in the hospital because that much made me feel full. All sleeves aren't equal, but none of us can fit the quantities as discussed by OP on other threads, even at seven weeks post op.
So, let's not panic, everyone! Wait and see if anything more concrete comes from this, because this isn't even a case of getting a bypass instead of a sleeve. I have friends that had a bypass and none of them bounced back or were able to eat like that, either. In fact, I'd argue the bypass surgery was harder on all of them than my sleeve was on me!
OP - sorry you're going through whatever situation we have here. I hope that you won't disappear before filling us in on the rest of the story.

You know...with any surgery there is always a chance, and the complications from surgery can happen, but that's with any surgery. Rather focus on what can happen, research how often it happens. Complications are not that common, research the rates. Before making your final decision, makes sure you research everything...

Queen In Me got a reaction from HoosierGirl in How much did you lose during your pre-op diet?
Hey! My pre op diet has been for 7 days, I still have one more day to go and then surgery on the 3rd. I started losing weight before being up on the pre op but I don't weigh myself until tomorrow. My diet consist of 3 shakes, a tv dinner less than 250 calories and less than 30 carbs. I couldn't exceed 1000 calories and 60 carbs a day, I've managed to stay under 850 and about 55 carbs a day. I also had to have aleast 80-100 grams of Protein a day.

I also think the Protein is making my breath stink! I brush my teeth and tongue after each shake, but maybe its the protein in an otherwise empty stomach!
Any one else having this problem?

I've only been here for a couple of weeks but I am stunned by the number of posts where people ask if it's ok to ignore their post surgical dietary instructions because they really want to eat something they know they shouldn't.
Is it really worth the chance of having complications to satisfy a craving? Do you want to be cut open again to deal with a leak, infection or some other complication? Are people really lacking that much basic common sense? It honestly boggles my mind to read so many posts like that.

Queen In Me got a reaction from MzFree-Spirited Vsg in I feel alone...
Hey lady...with your insurance can you have a bmi with 35+ and at least 2 obesity-related co-morbid condition? If that is so, do you have diabetes or high blood pressure, sleep apnea...etc? If so you may still be able to be approved. The dietary part is stressful alone and then thinking about the approval process can be a bit much too. Keep faith, hopefully everything will work out for you. Try talking to your insurance as well to see exactly what there requirements are and see if you have an individual who will be working on your case solely. I have bluecross and sheld and I had an individual I worked with through the whole process to get to surgery. Maybe if you gained some type of communication with your insurance it can help with your approval process. I hope you feel better hun!

My BMI is over 40 but I hold my weight very well (for the most part). The few people i have told feel like I am to "small" to get this surgery, but I know its something I need. Alot of people is always going to have something to say rather is positive or negative. You know your struggles better than anyone else. You know your reasons for wanting to have this procedure. Stay strong, follow through and ignore the ignorant!

When I had my preop upper gi, they found slow emptying. Surprise to me since I had no symptoms like food getting stuck or anything like that. They did a study where they put a tube down my nose into my esophagus and stomach to check the muscle tone etc. I guess anything 60% or greater is within normal limits. I was right at 60. Doc preferred bypass over sleeve for this reason as well as some reflux (which was also found in this study despite very little symptoms). I was still ok for sleeve knowing there was a 50/50shot of needing a revision to bypass if things got worse. 8 weeks out now and knock on wood --no issues.

I asked mine how many people he did the surgery on that have died, and/or had a leak after surgery. I was very happy to hear his rate on both is 0%.

I too have PCOS, and my doc says by losing 10% of your current weight will reduce some of the symptoms of PCOS. I haven't had surgery as of yet, but since i've started the process of getting to surgery i've lost 9+ pounds and after not having a period for 6 months, I was able to naturally have one. I'm hoping the sleeve will help reduce my symptoms and allow me to get pregnant, especially since i've already loss one ovary.

You explained everything really clearly, thank you. Can I ask a similar question? I have met my MOOP and deductible for this year and hope to get a December surgery date because of this. I have a $1,500 copay for any weight loss surgery (yet not other surgeries ) and so my question is when will this copay be collected? I have been approved so the next step is scheduling the surgery. So will the surgeon send the copay bill in the mail? Or is it due the day of surgery like a regular Dr. visit? I'm just confused by this because you will be at the hospital, not the surgeons office. I just want to know when I will have to have the $1,5000 ready bc it is Christmas time and I'm a broke college student Thanks!
