  1. Angela.. Girl...I have been there. Last year at this time I weighed 360 pounds! I began my weight-loss journey on Aug. 3, 2011...and my surgery was Nov. 23, 2011. Since that time I have lost 150 lbs! Yes...150 pounds! I went from a size 28 or 4X...today I wear a medium shirt and a size 14 jeans! I thought the same way you do... but the reality is YOU can do it! I did it..I weigh 207 pounds... and I love every pound...every wrinkle and every day that I have had this sleeve! I call her Bertha... and "she" and I have really went through a lot together...and we love each other! LOL I am 6 months post-op... and can eat anything I want...and have NEVER been sick (dumped)...not even once. If you follow the rules.. you will do great! You can find me on Facebook... Barbara Bush-Thompson...you can see lots of before and current pics! God Bless...
  2. Does anyone have the surgery codes for bc/bs? I have a friend who really needs them. Thanks! * I have UHC and have my codes... but I still need to lose about 75 more pounds before I consider those surgerys.
  3. Time flys... and soon you will be wondering where it went! God bless you dear!
  4. I am 3 weeks post op today. I had some pain in my right ribcage area a few days ago... Italked to my surgeon and it was gallbladder spasms. But... other than that...I have had no pain!
  5. After surgery I was experiencing nausea when taking my pills.. my surgeon suggested that I take my pills (heart medication and thyroid medication) with a small amount of sugar free pudding. They go right down...and no nausea! The only pills I have to break up are my Vitamins (Calcium and my C & D combo). I am 3 weeks post op and I still do the s/f pudding with my pills. Hope this helps!
  6. I too am 3 weeks post op today! I have lost 10 pounds since surgery...and I can eat eggs, Beans, tuna, oatmeal..and the other "cleared by the surgeon foods". I can only eat about 18th - 1/4 cup at a meal...but everything is going down well...and no nausea or vomitting at all. When I went last week to see my surgeon..I was discouraged about the slow move of the scale. He assured me I have lost more weight then the scale reflects...because the put in about 7-10 lbs of fluids during the surgery..which takes several weeks for the body to get rid of it. Plus...I can't speak for everyone..but I know I am doing good to get in 50 oz of Water a day... I know I need 64 or more to flush out my body...but it isn't working out so well fo me. I just can't get that much water in yet! I understand the stalls...trust me I have been there... but, I would not let it get you down...just know that soon it will all change and the scale will start moving again. Take care...God bless!
  7. Wow.. what a horrible story! I am so thankful (to God) that everything went perfectly with mine! I did my research and even researched the surgeon and staff members...before committing to the surgery. I know sometimes we trust people and take them at their word...but in this case..it cost her her life! So sad! I hope the doctors pay dearly for that famlies loss! It could have been prevented...and should have been!
  8. I am 3 weeks out of surgery... and I can only at about a tablespoon at a time. However..this morning I did eat 1/4 cut of thinned oatmeal...it took me 50 mins to eat it all. But, it went perfectly. For lunch I tried 1 oz of low fat cheese and 1/4 c of tuna salad... it didn't happen. I ended up eating 1/2 oz of cheese and 1/8th of a cup of Tuna salad! Still...that is progress and as long as it gets better each day...I think all is going well. I still do 2 protein drinks with 4 oz of skim milk each day...at the end of the day I eat and drink about 550-600 calories...and get in about 50 oz of liquids. All in all...I think that is pretty good. I feel great! I say...let your new tummy tell you what you can and can't do...that varies between all of us! God bless!
  9. I have learned to make crepes with the egg beaters...and I add one or two of the following... cheese, refried beans, cottage cheese, sour cream and hot sauce. It is like a mini bean and cheese burrito....LOVE it! And look at the proteins! Yum!
  10. I am 15 days out of surgery... I agree with the previous post. When I get the burps...I know I am full. That is when I stop! I am able to eat about 1-2 tbls of soft foods..like eggs, refired Beans, oatmeal and cheeses. I struggle to get more than 48 oz of liquids a day...since we don't drink 30 mins before-during and after meals. That is 4 1/2 hours out of the day that I can't drink. So it slows me down alot. I was use to drinking 100 oz per day. I sip all day now...just to get in 46-50oz. I know in time it will improve!

Thanks... Now that I am 12 days post-op..I am doing great! I get atleast 48 oz of liquids a day... and I can eat egg subsitute, refried beans, cheese and milk products! I am very blessed... and I have lost another 10 pounds since surgery! No complaints here!
  12. I was sleeved on Nov. 23rd.. and by the grace of God..all has went perfectly! I am 12 days out.. and I can eat egg subsitute, cheese, refried beans and milk products. I have not thrown up at all.. I drink slow..eat slow and make sure I listen to what my new stomach says! If it girgles...I know it is done for that moment. I wait 15-30 mins and try again. I can only eat about 1 tblsp per meal..but I stay with my 2 protein shakes a day! I consume about 600 calories per day, 70+ proteins and maybe 20 carbs. I am not able to get 64 oz water... the most I have done is 52 ozs. Ususally I make sure I get atleast 48 oz per day. I feel great... and go see my surgeon tomorrow for my 2 week post op! I praise God for his healing in my body... and I know that He is the reason for my great success! I wish you the best and I too will be praying for you. If it were me..I'd go back to the hospital and have them check for a leak... it is very possible that is your problem. There was a lady in the room next to mine that was experiencing a leak too... I would rather be safe than sorry! God bless you!
  13. It looks like every doctor says something different! I am 12 days post op..and I can have crackers, cheese, eggs or egg subsituite, refried Beans (thinned), pudding, yogurt and milk(fat-free) based Protein drinks. Granted...I suggest you get your diet from your own doctor..but this has worked well for me. I make a bean and cheese crepe that is awesome... but I can only eat about 1 tblsp of food at a meal...so a little goes a long ways. Bean and Cheese Crepe spray small skillet with vegetable spray; cook over medium heat add 1/8 c egg beater or egg subsitute ( season to taste ) Cook both sides and then remove from pan. Microwave 1/2 tblsp of fat-free refied beans ( I use Taco Bell Refried Beans ) with a little Water to thin them out about 20-30 seconds. Lay crepe on plate, add refried bean mix, sprinkle Low-Fat shredded cheese and a thin dolop of fat- free sour cream. Roll it up like a burrito and eat in small bites. I add a few drop of fat-free hot sauce to mine. I can only eat about 1/2 of the tiny crepe... but still the flavor is GREAT! Also, I eat mini Ritz Crackers with Laughing Cow cheeses. I can eat 4 minis...or one regular size snack cracker with cheese. I go to see my surgeon tomorrow... I will ask about other food options and report those too! Hope this helps.
  14. I thought about the Chipole BBQ Crispers from Chili's too! Those were so good! I am 4 days out of surgery.. and right now NOTHING appeals to me! Maybe someday!
  15. So far so good! Just trying to get in all of my liquids...pills...and some decent nutrition!

I had my VSG on Nov. 23rd and now 4 days later, I realize that the program I am in is 100% worthless! I had my surgery in Tulsa Oklahoma..not Mexico..or a foreign country. I was promised the moon and back during the pre-surgery phases....but the truth is, I got NOTHING! The doctor at the bariatric clinic never showed up as he promised...he didn't even send anyone from his staff! I was there 3 full days! Come on...what is the deal with that? He was "revising" the eating plan...and promised to have a plan put together for me before I had the surgery...yep...that ever happened either. My neighbor gave me her info and that is what I have doing. My surgeon was great...I love and adore him! He answered all my questions..checked on me everyday, even on Thanksgiving! Even my pulmonologist came to see me everyday...including Thanksgiving day! But, again...where is the pathetic doctor (a old family friend of my parents) that sold me on the bariatric program? At home eating turkey and pumpkin pie, I am sure! So...here I am mad (like the anrgy birds)...and there is nothing I can do! YET! Let me tell you...you can bank on the fact that when I get to the support meeting on Dec. 12th...he won't like what I say publicly! He deservse to be put in his place! And I am the girl to do it! Go a head...enjoy your "bird" on thanksgiving doc.... but you will eat crow soon!!! On a lighter note...I am doing well after surgery! I am struggling to get in my fluids..but everyday is getting better!
  17. Today is day 4 after my VSG! Let me say this...there is no way that I would be ready to go back to work. Just yesterday I got my "head" back to normal. All the meds they give us, I was foggy and unclear on everything. I have been blessed my the mercy of the Lord...no pain and no vomiting. I experienced some nausea when taking pills..but we solved that by placing them in a tiny amount of sugar-free pudding. The pills go down easy and no nausea! I am taking it one day at a time and thanking God everyday!
  18. When I began this journey in August 2011 I weighed 351.8 lbs. Today is my VGS surgery and I weighed in at 273.4!! That is 78.4 pounds GONE..BEFORE surgery! I need to lose another 116 lbs to reach my 157 goal! I know I can do it!

Wow...I love the details! Tomorrow is my surgery day! I am confident...but anxious at the same time! Best of luck and please keep us posted!
  20. Mine is tomorrow TOO! We are all very blessed to share this day! My prayers are with each of you!
  21. Oh my...and I thought I had it bad! The day before my scheduled sleeve surgery (Nov.2nd), my surgeon called to tell me he was cancelling my surgery due to a death in his family. It was rescheduled...for 3 weeks later (Nov. 23rd). As of Tuesday, it will be 5 weeks of liquids...by surgery 6 weeks! But after hearing this..I won't complain anymore! God bless you dear and I will pray for you!

I just can't imagine having to keep something like that from friends and family. My heart breaks for you and others like you! God bless you!
  24. Woo Hoo! I am glad your doing so well! God is good!
  25. Oh mercy...I can not begin to tell you the shock I was in when the surgeon called me this morning (minutes before my pre-op) and said he had to cancel my surgery! I thought..."WHAT? I have done 3 weeks of liquids for NOTHING!!!" I even asked if he was kidding. He said no...he had a death in his family and had to go out of state the day after my initial scheduled surgery and his two other partners are at a conference out of state...so there would be no one to take proper care of me. I appreciate my surgeon so much and his compassion was priceless. But, my tears were coming regardless if I wanted them or not. After a few minutes on the phone with my loving husband I was fine again. God has brought me this far and I refuse to let Satan "trip" me up! I will wait patiently for Nov. 23rd to have it done. Yes, that is 3 weeks away, which means 6 weeks of liquids! Yea me! And...it is the day before Thanksgiving! Again..yea me! The holiday thing is no real concern...but it hurts when you've worked so hard to get to the BIG day...and poof...the BIG day is 3 more weeks away! Worse things could happen! So... here I am in a daze... The way I see it is... this give me extra time to lose more weight (62 pounds lost so far!)...and more time to practice my drinking small sips...and more time to exercise...and so on! Over all it will all work out fine and I choose not to worry about it. I am very grateful for this experience and I look forward to the BIG day...when ever it is!
