  1. Thanks... Now that I am 12 days post-op..I am doing great! I get atleast 48 oz of liquids a day... and I can eat egg subsitute, refried beans, cheese and milk products! I am very blessed... and I have lost another 10 pounds since surgery! No complaints here!

  2. I was sleeved on Nov. 23rd.. and by the grace of God..all has went perfectly! I am 12 days out.. and I can eat egg subsitute, cheese, refried beans and milk products. I have not thrown up at all.. I drink slow..eat slow and make sure I listen to what my new stomach says! If it girgles...I know it is done for that moment. I wait 15-30 mins and try again. I can only eat about 1 tblsp per meal..but I stay with my 2 protein shakes a day! I consume about 600 calories per day, 70+ proteins and maybe 20 carbs. I am not able to get 64 oz water... the most I have done is 52 ozs. Ususally I make sure I get atleast 48 oz per day. I feel great... and go see my surgeon tomorrow for my 2 week post op! I praise God for his healing in my body... and I know that He is the reason for my great success! I wish you the best and I too will be praying for you. If it were me..I'd go back to the hospital and have them check for a leak... it is very possible that is your problem. There was a lady in the room next to mine that was experiencing a leak too... I would rather be safe than sorry! God bless you!

  3. Today is day 4 after my VSG! Let me say this...there is no way that I would be ready to go back to work. Just yesterday I got my "head" back to normal. All the meds they give us, I was foggy and unclear on everything. I have been blessed my the mercy of the Lord...no pain and no vomiting. I experienced some nausea when taking pills..but we solved that by placing them in a tiny amount of sugar-free pudding. The pills go down easy and no nausea! :) I am taking it one day at a time and thanking God everyday! :)

  4. Oh my...and I thought I had it bad! The day before my scheduled sleeve surgery (Nov.2nd), my surgeon called to tell me he was cancelling my surgery due to a death in his family. It was rescheduled...for 3 weeks later (Nov. 23rd). As of Tuesday, it will be 5 weeks of liquids...by surgery 6 weeks! But after hearing this..I won't complain anymore! God bless you dear and I will pray for you!

  5. I am 6 days from surgery! I get on here several times a week to stay up on the latest and greatest news on the sleeve surgery. I love the comments, warning, postive thoughts and prayers. I can see how the pain would make you second guess your decision. Most of us have zero tolerance for pain...me included. However, I know the pain is coming....much like pregnancy and childbirth...we have to metally prepare for the pain. I gave birth to three 9+ pound kids...so I think I got this! :)

Check back with me next week to be sure....LOL

Pain is more of a mental disability than a physical disability...so that is how I plan to cope. Keeping a clar mind...stay mentally busy and pray A LOT!!!

I wish you a fast recovery and the same to all of us who are waiting to have our "new stomachs"!

    God bless!

  6. I have been on pre-op liquids for 13 days now... surgery is in 10 days....and I still eat with my family. I have broth or a protein shake and all is normal for us. I think "mind over matter" is the key. I cook meals for the family..bake cakes, cupcakes and brownies. I refuse to let my changes disrupt this family. We are no different now than we were when I ate like they did. I prepared myself for this journey months in advance and knew what was coming...I don't feel left out or cheated when I see my husband (6'5 and 180lbs) eating a BBQ Chicken and Bacon Sandwich, or when I see the kids eat warm baked chocolate chip cookies. I actually look at them and think...Ewww, I use to eat that! Yuk! :)

I ask..."Do you know how many calories that is?"...ha ha ha! I am very aware of food and what food does to people...mentally and physically. It can control people...it once controlled me. I would binge eat at times... having a Starbuck coffee, 2 chocolate twist donuts...on the way to work and then eat a McGriddle Combo at work. Later snacking on chips or pastries before lunch. Lunch would be Chinese or Mexican food...ending with ice cream sundaes or another pastry. Gotta have dessert right? :) Then I'd snack all afternoon...get a treat on the way home and still have Dinner...maybe pasta and bread or fried tacos. And last but never the least...CHEESECAKE for a bedtime snack! Yep....I ate all of that in one day! I can't even count the calories or carbs in that. And I wonder why I weighed 350+ pounds! Humm...I figured out the answer. :)

So....now when I watch others eat like I did..it grosses me out! Food is not our friends...I look food in the face....watching Food Network or the Cooking Channel all the time... and know it no longer controls me. I control it! I decide what goes in my body now. I love to cook..so watching those TV show about cooking..inspires me to change up the recipes and make it healthier for me and my family.

Remember....and I may eat these words in the weeks to come...LOL...but, eventually we can all eat our favorite foods...we just won't eat LARGE portions. I have friends who have had the sleeve and the RNY and most are 6 yrs out now...they eat whatever they want but small portions. So...someday we too can have BBQ Chicken and Bacon sandwiches...or maybe just a bite or two..which will satisfy us completely. :)

Liquids are tough...but look at the reward...you are so close to the soft foods..and trust me I would love some mashed potatoes too. :)

I weigh everyday...it keeps me honest! Yes the scale moves differently everyday...I know somedays it is + and others is -...I just know that my body is changing and it helps me know what I need to change.

Savor this moment...embrace it and prepare for the next phase...nothing last forever! You are doing great!

    God bless!

  7. It is amazing how most of our storys ...are the same! :)

My journey was 3 months to the day...surgery is Nov. 2nd. I would have been devestated to learn that it was actually 6 mths.. :(

Just think of it as added knowledge and time to prepare for the actual WLS experience.

I began a strict diet on Aug 2nd...

    1200 calories

    90 carbs or less

    80-100 proteins

    50 fats

80 oz of water or more per day

walking 1/2-1 1/2 miles per day

All of this helped me lose 52+ pounds before surgery! Which has helped me correct a lot of my bad habits!

I am blessed to have had the support team to help me through this. Now, I am on the pre-op liquid diet (1 week in and 2 weeks to go) and let me tell you it has been easy! Yes, I said it HAS been easy! My mind and body are on the same page and that makes all the difference.

I wish you the best in your journey and look forward to seeing the results!

    God bless!

  8. I am pre-op... surgery is Nov. 2nd..and I know what you're talking about. I too have used the past 3 months to prepare for this permanant lifestyle change. What I found that worked for me is...I made my plate..or ordered as normal. Then I would only eat half...take home the other half or freeze it. Sharing with another person helps too! This helps you cut back on large protion sizes.

I am on the liquid part of the pre-op...and it is easy because I was already use to the small portions.

I drink 80-100 oz of water a day...so I never really feel hungry! Eating slow is still a hurdle for me. I have 4 girls living at home and 4 other grown children outside of the home..we are never still. So...that will be my greatest challenge!

    I hope this helps! :D

  9. Welcome...I am a newbie too!

I am having my surgery on Nov. 2nd. I am so excited to add this tool to my toolbox. I learned early on the surgery is not the answer. Making a commitment to the long term lifestyle changes are the REAL answer to weight loss and management! I began my journey on Aug. 2, 2011... 1200 calorie/90 carbs/90-100 proteins/50 fats...and I added walking to the mix. As of today....I have lost 50lbs WITHOUT surgery! So, I know once I add the "tool", WLS to the mix...I will reach my goal and be able to maintain it for many years to come.

I really wish you the best in your journey and may God bless you with your desired success!
