What can we have when we are doing the 2 weeks pre-op diet?

I began one week early to help shrink my liver...now the million dollar question is, what can I have that isn't a protein drink?

HELP!

There are lots of things you can have: Crystal Light, sugar free popsicles, chicken and beef broth, any non-caloric, non-carbinated drink, decaffeinated tea, sugar free jello and of course plenty of water.

Thanks so much! Thank goodness it is fall...and soup (cream) sounds good to me! :) It is day 2...and over all I am doing great! I use the IsoFlex protein mix with 1% milk... it is awesome! They have many flavors...and all are excellent!

Did your doctor not give you a list? Have they sent you to see the NUT yet?

Well...about that "list"! They are re-vamping the nutrition section and did not give us one of those.."list" yet! To late for some of us!

Yes, I saw her...twice! But she only talked about after and current...nothing about those glorious 2 weeks of liquids.

I am assuming I can have anything liquid...creamed...or strained. Over all I am doing 3 protein shakes (27 gms of protein each shake) , gogurts, puddings, jello and creamed soup. I think that will cover me for the next few weeks. :P

My husband and I had to first lose 10% of our body weight before we QUALIFIED for the surgery through the facility we went through. Now I am on day 3 of a liquid diet (2 days creamy, 1 clear) and tomorrow is surgery. The NUT did give us a diet that was high in protein to lose the initial weight. Mostly chicken, pork, beef and 2 cups of veggies a meal. Shake for breakfast. And it worked fairly well and we were full. If you are interested I can give more specifics. But I dont want to interfere in your particular Dr.s goals for you. Good Luck!

My 2 week pre-op is protien shakes , the clear liquids , cream soups. And a sensible meal each day.. Last 3 days before surgery clear liquids only...

well... so far so good! The good news is the scale loves the liquid diet!

Kim....you only did 3 days of liquids? Wow..I am required to do 2 weeks..but opted for 3 weeks just to be real sure the liver is smaller! After all that is the main reason for the liquid diet!

I see alot of people only doing a few days...I wonder why?

My Dr said 5 days of liquids. The NUT had said a full 7, with reduced diet 2 weeks previous. Maybe it depends how much you have to lose?

Humm! Well...this is day 4 for liquids...and I must say, it has been easy! I don't feel hungry...and have to remind myself to have my protein shakes! Crazy I know...but it is working. I have lost 50 lbs in 2 1/2 mths!
