  1. Started preop diet on July 26, 2011. Had sleeve surgery Aug 23, 2011. Started at 370lbs on preop diet. Today I weigh 161lbs. I have lost 209lbs. I am living proof that it can be done.
  2. Guess what? I know someone who went to Mexico for surgery and had absolutely no complications and would do it again in a heart beat. That person is me!!! At 370lbs and no health insurance I could not afford the surgery in the US. I chose Mexico as a way so save my life despite all the well meaning naysayers in my life. No one can live my life but me. So glad I trusted myself to make the right decision to pave the road to a healthy lifestyle. I was sleeved on August 23, 2011 so it has been almost 1year now.
  3. I'll take the challenge. I weigh 183 today, down from 370. I would like to get to 170 by July 4. That would be an even 200lbs lost. That is a little over 2lbs a week. We will see, things are slowing a bit lately.
  4. Yes, I'd do it again. On July 26,2011 I weighed 370lbs. Today I weigh 184lbs. Only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I feel I wasted some of the best years of my life being morbidly obese.
  5. I buy most of my clothes at thrift stores such as Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. I get them very cheap. If I really think about it they are actually expensive brand clothes that I just happened to purchase for a buck or two. No one need to know that I didn't spend $30-$40 for a pair of jeans. I change sizes about every couple of weeks so can't afford high price clothes.
  6. I am 49. I have been buying younger style clothes since losing quite a bit of weight. It's like I lost 20 years of my life due to obesity and I want to make up for it. Plus, I feel younger now too.
  7. Yes, the removal of Ghrelin hormone really does work. It does not bother me when coworkers are eating Subway, pizza, McDonalds, etc. I definitely have more will power not to give into temptation.
  8. Continue losing weight, try to incorporate more exercise. Stay away from the thrift stores. I buy too many used clothes as I keep losing and then they get too big. No one needs 50 pairs of size 22w pants.lol
  9. Congratulations. I have had similar success with my sleeve that was done on Aug 23rd by Dr. Almanza. Since start of preop diet on July 26th, I have lost 99lbs. Best thing I ever did for my life.
  10. I started preop on July 26th, had sleeve surgery on Aug 23rd. All total I have lost 99lbs.This has happened in about 4 and a half months.
  11. Started preop diet on July 26th, my weight was 370lbs. Had surgery on Aug 23rd. I now weigh 276lbs. I have lost a grand total of 94 lbs. I want to see an even 100lbs by Christmas. Time will tell...
  12. I started at 370lbs on July 26th, After preop diet and Surgery on Aug.23rd. I now weigh 276lbs.94 pound lost. I am glad I had the vertical sleeve.
  13. I started out weighing 370lbs on July26th, Did preop diet and had surgery on Aug23rd. To date I have lost 94lbs. That is a little more than 4 months all together. I want to see 100lb loss by Christmas. time will tell....
  14. I started thinking and researching sleeve surgery in mid July, I was self pay and could not afford the surgery locally. Researched into having it done in Mexico. I had surgery on Aug 23rd. Actually, the plans and surgery went off without a hitch. I have had no complications and am satisfied with my sleeve surgery. I am very glad I had the surgery and made what some may call a rash decision. I have lost 92lbs since start of preop diet on July 26th.I am so glad I did not have to go through the lengthy process that is required with the insurance companies in the US.
  15. I had a quarter cup of plain squash and maybe 3oz. of turkey. Sure can feel the restriction with the dense turkey protein!!!
  16. I had some anxiety over this issue before I had surgery. After having surgery I don't really feel the need or urge to eat huge meals, not that I could hold that much food anyways. I think part of the reason is b/c the Ghrelin Hormone that causes hunger is removed during surgery. I am so glad I had this sleeve surgery. I would never had been able to lose this much weight without it.
  17. I commented my thoughts on the comments after reading/seeing the article. WLS is not an easy way out. So many people who have not had the surgery think we do not have to watch our food intake or exercise. I guess I shouldn't care what those idiots think, I know I did what was right for me, at least I will live alot longer b/c of the sleeve. It still got my temper up though seeing those comments
  18. When I was going for my surgery w/Dr.Almanza, my biggest fear was getting lost in the airport too. I wasn't nearly as worried about the surgery. Good Luck. I was sleeved on Aug 23rd and have no regrets or no complications.
  19. I was wondering myself as I am an even 300lbs and hoping to be in the 200's very soon. Twoterville sounds good. Better than 370ville that I started out.lol
  20. Interesting to see that you are close to where I live. i am from Little valley NY. Good luck for a speedy recovery.
  21. I have a ton of clothes in many sizes too. I think we are scared to get rid of them b/c in the past we have always put weight back on. I will get rid of the big sizes that no longer fit as I lose weight. Hopefully, the sleeve will help me to keep it off.
  22. Congratulations to you. One question I have is: Did you ever get stuck in a stall? and what did you do to pull out of it and start losing again? Thanks
  23. It can be frustrating, that I know
  24. Everyone loses differently, according to BMI, activity, etc.
  25. I started out at 370lbs on preop diet on July 26 of this year, Had surgery on Aug 23. I now weigh 312/313lbs. i am 5'10". The weight is slower in coming off now but I am still losing, and have some stalls sometimes. Very glad I had the sleeve done, it was a lifesaver.
