  1. wow good job on the 17lbs! I am jealous. I have only lost 6 so far, lol I think I am going to join a support group too! Good luck with your surgery young lady!
  2. I totally agree with Tiffy. I am on day 4 of the required liquid diet, and if your surgeon says you don't need it, don't put yourself through this. I have cried twice. :-( its harder than I thought!
  3. I see online all the pre-op diets, some have 2 weeks, some have 3 days, some have none at all..... So i was thinking, is it really that big of a deal?? Until I met a friend for coffee yesterday. She had a gastric bypass March 3 2011. She has my same surgeon. She said she followed our required 10 day liquid protien diet about 75% of the time. She woke up and the surgeon said that many other surgeons would have closed her back up cause her liver was still huge and fatty. He said she was lucky he was so seasoned, and they may have had to close her back up and wait until she shrank her liver. This is motivating me to keep on track with the pre-op diet! I have 5 more days to go!
  4. I wasn't so sure how important this diet was until I met with a friend for coffee yesterday. She had a gastric bypass March 3. She has my same suregon. He said he almost had to close her back up when they got inside cause her liver was so huge. She says she followed it like 75% of the time! It would be so horrible to wake up and for your surgeon to say sorry, we couldn't do the surgery cause your liver is too big and fatty. Its motivating me to keep on track!
  5. I am right there with you, luckily I only have 10 days, and I am on day 3. I totally get how you feel. We can do this, keep up the good work. :-)
  6. I am on day 3 of the 10 day preop liquid diet and I am ready to drive myself to taco bell! Any tips!? I can have slim fast or carnation instant Breakfast mixed with milk, I can have broth, and crystal light, and Water. The thought of drinking a slimfast makes my stomach turn right now!
  7. Welcome Bruce! And congrats on your success so far!
  8. I also was 100% set on the band until the surgeon, RNs and other staff at my baratic weight loss center kind of swayed me. Then I joined this site, and thanks to all the people here (esp. Tiffykins!) I changed my mind and feel like I have dodged a bullet. I am having surgery in 1 week, and I am currently on the 10 day high protein liquid diet. I couldn't be more excited!
  9. good luck lady! thinking good thoughts fo you!
  10. I am concerned you might no be getting ENOUGH calories?? Honestly. Your body is probably "starved" and is holding onto your weight for dear life. Have you tried to up your calories to like 1000 to 1200?? its worth a shot!
  11. Carmen I totally know what you mean! I fear the saggy skin, and wondering what is going to happen to me when I am a "hot" 28 year old single THIN blonde successful nurse. I fear I will look great in clothes and get tons of attention, and won't want to ever want to take them off. I too had a significant other with those concerns, and I stayed with him and didn't get the surgery cause he didn't want me too. We broke up, and here I am, getting the surgery 3 months after the end of our relationship. I have never been thin so I am wondering to what I will do with all the attention! I hope we will be just fine!
  12. Good for you, I would have told her off. how rude!!! Duh, nobody would get this surgery if we were all able to lose weight like she had! Good luck with your surgery girl!
  13. I bought a blender, a couple cases of bottled water, a case of G2, low sugar juice boxes to freeze and make into slush, a stack of magazines, and a cute loose nightgown to wear post op. I read on this website everyday and mentally prepare for the journey! I can't wait, good luck on the 8th, I am right after you on the 9th!
  14. you look fantastic!!!!!
  15. you are looking HOT girl! keep up the good work!!! :-)
  16. Are you at risk for a PE more than your average person?? Blot clots post op can be prevented! Learn the warning signs/ be prepared. But the chances are still slim. You have an amazing chance to change your life I hope the CHANCE of something bad happening doesn't scare you off.
  17. (as a nurse) I know that as long as you do not have any kidney issues you should be just fine with the amount pf protein!
  18. I am wondering has anyone gone through the surgery with several tattoos? I have a large one on my thigh and a larger one on my calf. What has happened to tattoos, do they look weird? anything I can do to help preserve them? Thanks
  19. I finally have my offical surgery date AND my boss approved my PTO!!! 8/9/11!! Thats 3 weeks from today exactly. Surgery is at 10am. I start my 10 day high protien liquid -only diet on July 31st. I couldn't even sleep last night. I am wondering what to buy in preperation for the Surgery? I am headed to Target tonight. Any tips? I can't wait!
  20. I agree with Carem, I am approaching 28 and wish so much I wouldn't have chickened out when I had a gastric bypass scheduled back in 2004, but I did. The thing EVERYONE says about their WLS is that they wished they would have done it when they were young. You are so lucky!!!! :-) I am having my Surgery 2 weeks after my 28th B-day, and I am hoping to feel and look amazing in my twenties still! Good Luck young one! (and Carmen!!)
  21. wow, you are a babe! We have the same stats, I am 5'4'' and weight 240 to start. If I look like you 41/2 months after surgery I would be the happiest woman alive!
  22. Keep up the good work girl! You are cute in both pics but you can see a twinkle in your eye now! :-)
  23. Congrats, I can't wait to go to VS for bras! :-) Lane Bryant is waaaayyyy to expensive, I can't wait to never go there again. Keep up the good work girl!
