    Clothing/size question

So glad to read this. I'm 6wks out and have lost 24lbs but my clothes are getting bigger. My pants are baggy in the seat and waist is bigger each week. I will wear my clothes until they fall off but like everyone, I'm anxious for that to happen. Yeah!!!! This will work for us all.

    hair blues :(

I'm sorry you're going through this. I'm 5 wks out and I worry about this too. I pray that it won't happen but if it does I pray it will be minimal. From what I've heard it won't last forever so I pray it will be over before you know it. Good luck.

What Did Ya Name your Sleeve?

SAM- stomach altered to mini. Funny my mom called me Sam when I was in her belly. I won't have any kids so it seems only right that I should have a Sam too.

    Abdominal binder from hospital

Hi, congrats on your surgery. I didn't have a binder for my surgery, however, when I had my abdominal hysterectomy I had one. I would say to wear it as long as you need to. I wore my binder for several weeks after my surgery until I felt better. You'll know when you don't need it anymore.
  6. Tamz, 2oz was a starting point, if you can do more then do it. I have 8oz of soup with protein powder in it or 8oz of a protein shake. The nut and dr hamn said 2oz is a starting point so if I could do more, great. I think you should call the office, sounds like you're not hardly getting anything in especially if you're only eating 3X day. Good luck!!!

    Day 95: Possibly fat forever?

Thanks for your post. I'm 25 days post op and I've only lost 11lbs since surgery, 16 since preop. I feel like I'm way behind but my clothes are fitting much looser and Im into things I haven't been into for years. I need to work on my water/fluid intake, maybe that will help and also start walking more. Thanks for your encouragement.
  8. Hi everyone: I am 3 wks post op tomorrow and have lost 13 lbs. Not a lot compared to others but at least I'm moving in the right direction. My problem is exercise. I read on here how others are exercising an hour a day or so. That's wonderful but how do I get motivated to do it? I have a treadmill so don't have to deal with the hot, 100 degree weather of Texas but after a days work on my feet thats the last thing I want to do. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear it. I want to make the most out of this time but can't seem to get the energy up to do it. Thanks for your help. :-)

HELP!!! How can I motivate myself to exercise?

Thank you all sooooooo much. I will start off slow and see how it goes. I know years ago, many years ago I walked 2 miles twice a day and loved it. Saw results too. Thanks again, I guess you do it until the desire kicks in. Lol
  10. Beautiful. Congrats on your success!!
  11. Congrats. Gosh I go tomorrow for my 2nd po and it appears that I've only lost 13 lbs since my pre op on 6/2. I'm so happy for you but what an I doing wrong?
  12. Congrats on your surgery and the fact that you're able to get so much fluid down. You're right, each day gets better.

    1 week since surgery

I had sx on 6/7/11 and am down 11 lbs as of Tuesday, maybe more I only weigh myself weekly. I too am tired of the protein shakes. I've been having creamed soup, pureed and strained with unflavored protein added in. Pretty good. I too find that im thirsty for water and can't quite quench my thirst. I'm 10 days out and have a total of 5 weeks on this. Uggh please go quickly. I'm suffering from sinus/cold issues, coughing, sore throat, stuffy/runny nose. Does anyone know what meds are ok to take? My doc said tylenol.
  14. I'm 7 days post op today and am able to get my protein drinks- 8oz down in about 30-45 minutes. I questioned the nut that said I shouldn't be drinking more than 4oz every 30 minutes and I should space my protein out during the day. My doc told me to fix my 60g of protein, divide it by 3 and those were my meals. As long as I got those in he didn't care what else I had, he didn't want to hear at my post op visit that I can't get my protein in but can have other things. Can protein drinks really put that much pressure on our staple lines? I'm a bit worried now as I don't want to damage anything. I'd appreciate your words of wisdom. Thanks!

    post op difficulty and discouraged

I'm 5 days post op and can get my protein in but struggling with the water. My doc said make my prot shakes (60g) for the day and split it into 3. Get those in and anything else is extra. When 8oz of milk is 8g and prot powder is 20-24 it's pretty easy but hard to get water in. Should I not worry and just keep trying? Thanks!

    Staying Hydrated

I too find that water is the hardest thing to drink. I've tried crystal light, coffee substitute, cold, room temp, it's just hard. I will try a splash of juice and see if that works. Yest was my first day on full liquids. I got my prot drinks in and a total of 24 oz of water. I didn't feel good after spending all day drinking water. Any suggestions???

Sleeved on Monday (6/6) at UCLA

Congrats on your surgery. I was sleeved 6/7/11 and also started full liquids today. I had a Protein shake this morning followed by 8-12 oz of Water in the hours after that and another shake around 3pm. So far I've gotten 54 of my 60grams of protein in for the day so I'm concentrating on my water. I never really had issues with drinking, just sipped and it went down. I pretty much can take a 2oz drink or close to it and it goes down fine now. My doc said to shoot the 2oz at once and you'll feel a tightness in your chest which is actually saying your full and then as it subsides the stomach is emptying. It's helped me, although it's hard to drink when you're not hungry or thirsty. Oh well...I'll just keep at it. As far as pills, my doc also said ok to swallow anything that was as small or smaller than a pencil eraser. If it's bigger either crush it (yuck) or cut it to eraser size and then take it. I've taken my antacids since Thursday and my "happy" pills since yesterday and have had no issues. Of course, check with your doc since everyone is different but it's worked for me. Look forward to seeing you progress. Good luck! Kim
  18. Hi All- I've read so many great posts here I decided to ask YOU, the experts. My pre-op consists of 3 days, full liquids, which I understand should be low calorie. Basically we're starving ourselves for 3 days to shrink our livers so surgery is easier. Post -Op when I'm on Full liquids for 5, yes, 5 weeks I'm wondering if I need to really worry about the carbs? I know I will search for low fat, low calorie, lower sodium but the Soups all have tons of carbs as do alot of other things. Aside from boiling Water and adding some onion, celery and chicken and cooking until it falls apart and then pureeing I don't know how to do LOW carbs except for only drinking Protein shakes. What has everyone done and what has worked best for you? Thanks for your insight!

    Sleeved 6-7-11

Congrats, I too had my surgery done on June 7th. I came home on June 9th and too have done well. I started my full liquids today and it's 4:30 pm and I've already got 54 of my 60 daily Protein grams in for the day. I'm now working on the Water. Hope each day gets better for us both; I look forward to following your progress. Good luck to you!
  20. I too was sleeved on June 7th and started today on my protein shakes. I was able to drink my 8oz shake in probably 30 min without issue. After about 30 min I started drinking some flavored water (reg water is hard for me too for some reason) and was only able to down maybe 8-12 oz before I had to have "lunch shake" about 5 hrs later. I feel no hunger and absolutely no desire to eat or drink. Before today I was drinking out of my 2oz cups but today I just measured and put it in my glass. I take a drink and go. So far so good. I know my doctor said to just down the 2oz (like a shot) so that you could feel the fullness (in your chest) and then you'd feel when it emptied. Sometimes I can feel that other times I don't. I think I'm just extremely blessed to be able to hydrate myself. Now I just have to work on getting more water in as well. Best of Luck to the rest of you June Sleevers!!!

    Full liquids

My surgery is Tuesday 6/7/11 and I'm trying to prepare for 3 days post op when full liquids begin. Can I basically have anything in soup form as long as it's pureed and strained? Trying to think of healthy, protein rich ways to keep my tummy and mouth happy for 5 weeks while I'm on full liquids. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Nasal Tube

My doctor puts in a nasal tube that is suppose to suck additional fluid out of the stomach as well as help keep air from filling in the belly. I've never had a nasal drain and was wondering if anyone out there had one and if so what it's like? He said it will be removed the day after surgery and that's not any too soon for me. My friend just had the sleeve 2 wks ago and had one but hers fell out when she sat up. I'm hoping mine does too! ha

    Nasal Tube

Thanks Neanie, you're right...we can do it. I'm think I was dreading that more than anything but then I Google'd it and read and saw what it looked like. It said it wasn't as bad as everyone thinks it is and like you said, mine will only be in place until the next day I guess after my swallow test. I too am in Texas and having my surgery on 6/7/11. Best of luck to you. Prayers and thoughts right back at you.

    in tears right now

BlkMikeG, I'm sorry you're having to go through this. It's so hard when you've done everything you can do and then something like this happens. Like everyone else said, rest, drink plenty of fluids and hopefully you'll be well tomorrow. If not, I too work for a doctor's office and there are cancellations all the time. Not to worry...it will work out and you will have your sleeve. Best of luck and feel better!
