DMJ 0340 reacted to mrsto in 1500 Cal Diet...Really??
Are you female? Doesn't say in your profile, but I'm thinking.....yes. If you are, 1500 calories per day is pretty generous.
At some point, you are going to be responsible for tracking what you eat. Maybe, instead of strongly resisting this part of the preparation, use it to learn how to account for what you consume. Even when banded, you're going to have to keep tabs on your calories and Protein intake.
As you get more familiar with how many calories and Protein are in certain foods, you will learn how to lay it out, and how to get the most bang for your caloric buck. I'm not saying this is easy, but nothing about WLS is easy. If you are thinking that once the surgery is done, that you are home free, please think again. It's a HUGE adjustment, and a 1500 calorie per day "diet" for a few months is pretty generous. If you read through some of these forums, you'll see a lot more stringent pre-op diet protocols than that.
    Hang in there......it's worth it!

Unfortunately, you're going to have that on any online venue but especially forums.
You have hundreds of personalities on here and some clash. Couple that with the fact text doesn't necessarily read the true emotion of the poster. For instance, more than once I've posted facts that someone has taken negatively. The reason this happens is the poster can't see my facial expression or hear my voice inflections so they're left to their own interpretation. I may say "Stick to your post op diet, it's not worth a slip" out of concern but the person may misread it as said judgmentally
Now, combine that with inevitable: Some people are miserable and want to drag others down in their misery with them. Some people are just plain mean. Some people are so immature it's scary. Some are painfully ignorant. If you put all these people into one big forum- you're bound to have some serious clashes and pissing matches.
Just take the good, leave the bad, and ignore the ridiculousness. It's all you can do.

My port had flipped some time after my surgery and when I went in for my first fill my Dr couldn't put saline in as the correct side was facing down. I had to have another surgery to correct it. It has been almost three weeks and am looking forward to my next fill. My Dr. Said it was the first time he had seen that. I think it happened when I was walking my dog on leash and she took off after something- pulling me along. My Dr thought it could have been caused from working out. Good luck to you! The port surgery was much easier!

DMJ 0340 reacted to ADJL in First NSV...
I've been wondering what my first NSV might be...essentially trying things out that I couldn't do or was way too afraid to do before....well, we hit the pool today (me and my two little munchkins) and I was able to easily get in and out without having to use the ladder! I haven't hoisted my body up like that for a loooong time...
The best part was that i didn't even think about it until i was already out of the pool. I just did it. When it hit me i just stopped in my tracks and if i was less worried about looking like a crazy lady i would have danced a little jig right then and there.
It made me all the more motivated. I've been exercising too...running and Zumba have helped me build up my muscles and I know that's partly why it happened so naturally. Loving this and can't wait for more!

DMJ 0340 reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in How long did it take to start losing weight - not counting the liver diet?
You have to remember, fills don't make you lose weight. They are to put adequate Fluid in your band to control your hunger. When your hunger is controlled then it's much easier to eat less and thus lose weight.
I actually have lost consistently since I was banded 17 months ago, including right after surgery. I think the reason I've always lost is because I also started tracking my calories and measuring my portions since the day I got home from the hospital. For me, both are crucial to be sure I'm not accidentally eating too much.
    Best wishes.

DMJ 0340 reacted to parisshel in I am not dieting. I'm enjoying life with a band.
Love this quote that I read today: "The dieting industry the only profitable business in the world with a 98 percent failure rate."
Each day I wake up so happy that I followed through with my decision to stop traditional dieting and seek a tool with a better track record and longterm success rate: the lapband. I remember in the days leading up to my surgery last March, I was feeling fearful and a voice in my head said "Hey, give Weight Watchers one last chance." Thankfully I stood strong. Had I not, I would be weighing more today than I did three months ago, I am certain of it. Instead, I weigh almost 30 pounds less.
I don't see my banded life as a dieting life. I eat smaller now, and this is "just the way I eat." It's not "until I get the weight off." I don't "fall off the wagon" on vacation, during a holiday, or for someone's wedding, birthday, etc. I love my mindset with its dimmed appetite, and am grateful to my band for taking me from the status of "dieter" to "this is they way I eat now."

DMJ 0340 reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Obesity as a disease
This is a rather large controversy right now, but I'm glad they classified obesity as a disease. I don't know anyone who chooses to be obese or wakes up one morning and says "Oh hey, I think I'd like to start working towards being fat!" Making it worse, discrimination against the obese is the last socially acceptable form of abuse. How many times have heard or seen fat people brutally made fun of? I used to be huge, I know first hand how cruel people can be. Classifying obesity as a disease will open up doors in the medical community to actually get help for obese people. Pointing a judgmental finger at them saying "just eat less and get off the couch, fatty" isn't help. It's about time we stop laying blame and labeling the obese "lazy" and actually offering help and support to treat the disease itself.

I've had a pair of pants hanging in my closet for years that I thought, "If I could only lose enough weight to fit into those again, I'd be so happy!" Well, I just put them on... and they're TOO BIG!! And I'm not even done losing yet!! Loving my new life and my lap-band!!!!!

Discomfort shouldn't last too long, make sure you do as much walking as possible, as it will help with the gas that makes you feel the discomfort. Also I would encourage you to sip Water and your Protein Drinks constantly to stay hydrated. I must admit I took 2 weeks off of work as I tired easily after surgery. Good luck, stay hydrated!

I had my surgery on 4/24 and went on my first airplane trip since my surgery. I left on Monday, flew home this morning. I noticed a few things......
Seat belts on planes got longer in the two months I was away. I also noticed that the seats on puddle jumpers got a little wider. And the walk from the plane to baggage claim was not quite as onerous as in the past.

This morning I walked/jogged my first 5K!! It was even more awesome than I expected it to be. I've never really been a runner. Never in a million years did I think that I would voluntarily run/walk a 5k.
But, today I for my butt out there and did it!! The feeling of running through the finish line and seeing my wife and son cheering me on was AWESOME!! I have already signed up for another one!!

Oh my goodness, I just saw this thread! I am so touched!
Yes, I was really sick. Truth is, I was in the ICU for 8 days dealing with severe blood clots. It was really scary and to be honest I'm really lucky to be alive. If you want to read about what happened, I made a blog entry here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/blog/6349/entry-26062-a-warning-about-blood-clots-grahic-pic-beware/
I'm very sorry I couldn't pop on. When I originally posted that clot status, I didn't realize the severity of it all. Soon after I was airlifted to another hospital and spent the next 5 days totally immobilized on my back. Needless to say, anything internet wise was the last thing on my mind and totally impossible to even do.
And yes, my real name is Missy. PattyGirl626 on these forums does know how to reach me in real life so in the future if someone is worried, you can always PM her. She'll know for sure where I am and what's going on.
But I am home and doing well recovering. It's going to be a long road but I'm alive so I'm happy
    Love you all!!!

It's hard for me to believe that I have lost 92lbs since beginning this journey in February 2012! I lost 30lbs before surgery just by starting to exercise and make better food choices and 62lbs since my lapband surgery August 1, 2012. I have to say this is the best thing I have ever done for myself and I have a completely different relationship with food. I went from a size 16-18 to a size 4-6. I am 6lbs away from my goal and although these last few pounds seem like they are taking forever, I am so happy with my results. It's not easy but it's so worth it!

I happy that others feel the same way I do. It really helps to know that others are going though the same experiences and emotions. Today is going to be a rough day. My niece is graduating from high school and we are having a get together at my home, with food of course. I'll be strong and stay the course, just because I do not want to fail again, as with other diets.
I've also thought this to be a good test on will power for the remainder of the two week pre-op diet.
I was also surprised at the amount of chicken 4 oz is. On paper 4 oz's sounded like nothing, but when I weighed it out, it satisfied me with the small green salad and lots of Water a while afterwards.
Of course by the time dinner was rolling around, I was ready to eat. i ate slow, put down my silverware between bites and was happy afterwards (practicing). Still not so bad on the pre-op diet. However, I've warned my friends if I turn into a grouchy bear, they will know why!
