  1. muscle milk has 20 gm protein... no sugar... good taste.. GNC has good protein drinks too, 25 gms protein.. I think there is one called premium or something I think it sells at Sam's or Walmart it's like 30 gms protein.. so far I like the muscle milk the best....
  2. losinlg a family member or loved one can be stressful and emotionally difficult.. However, I believe that the lost family member would want you to remain strong and keep your eye on the prize.. we lost 2 children in the past 10 years and there is no loss like that ... I know if they were here they would be happy that I am taking charge of my health... prayers to you and yours.
  3. don't worry too much right now about protein.. it's all about healing for awhile. my Dr. said to not even worry about losing, just healing.. stay hydrated and rest....you will feel much better by next week....
  4. Big Bang Theory, Biggest Loser, except Jillian, I would punch her in the face... hate honey boo boo, insulting to Southerners... Amazing Race, Hate most reality shows they are all fake.. like history channel , like Blue Bloods, cause Tom Selleck is still hot.. but I'm old so ..... quit watching the news after election, it's depressing...
  5. I did not think we were supposed to eat bread? 2 sandwiches is a lot of bread...not sure since I have only had 1 fill but I know even before I had my fill I could not have been able to eat 1 sandwich much less 2.. I agree that you need to tell your Dr. to make sure nothing is wrong.
  6. good job. yes I always equate 50 lbs to a sack of feed... we have horses so it is natural to relate to that.. you are on your way to a healthier life... keep up the good work....
  7. I have to wonder why sleeve people are on a lapband chat forum... my dr. told me about the sleeve, did not recommend it for me.. said it's still relatively new and like the bypass it has dumping issues and is not reversible... I know a lady who got cancer after being banded thank God she did not have a sleeve or bypass, the band was unfilled , she got her chemo and did not have to worry about losing too much weight during the process.. I have another friend who had bypass, had years of malnutrition and was hospitalized at deaths door a few times.. he has never looked healthy and I wish he had a band....
  8. I know it seems like a long time to not eat anything of ...substance but I wanted to make sure that my liver was shrunk I did not want any complications with my surgery... I also wanted to prove to myself that I could do something as instructed and not whimp out.. it was really hard but so worth it..I had my surgery with no problems and am losing at a regular rate... hang in there it will be so much easier on you if you do...
  9. wheat thins or triscuits are what my nut advised... but she also says if you can tolerate regular saltines you can try them.. I am going to walmart tomorrow and will be getting some laughing cow...

that is funny... love kids that age.. I have two teenage grandaughters.. they make me laugh all the time...
  11. yes I had my first fill on Monday. it is quite different than not having any fill... I can eat my required amount (actually less than 1 cup) and feel satisfied.. not really what I knew as full before the band.. but feel good.. I am still working on getting my head in the game.. my head says aren't you hungry? but my body says nope you are fine... right before I had my fill I was quite hungry,, so it can make a difference...listen to your body not your brain....
  12. it does get better each day .the first week I was thinking I had done the worst thing ever to my body... keep ahead of the pain take your meds every 4 hours ...also milk of mag works like a charm to get things moving.... use your heating pad for the shoulder pain..get up and walk every hour...get plenty of rest...you will be happy you did this I promise ...
  13. Nicole it is difficult to change the way people treat you however, if you enable them to treat you poorly that is what you will get... kids that age and your husband need to take care of themselves..My husband of 37 years has learned that I am focusing on myself for a change..and he has started cooking his own meals or going out.. I am no longer the chief cook and bottle washer,, it is liberating not to have to worry about what we are eating.. I cook sometimes but not like I did for all of our married life... your husband the kids are being selfish and I would get myself a small apt and let him stay in the house til it sells....take care of yourself first...they will survive...
  14. I look at before/after photo's to get inspiration and motivation...all I can say girl is awesome...you look like a different person and I know you feel that way.. it's worth all the hard work and you will be so happy that you did the band... I am so thrilled that I have lost weight and am keeping it off.. by this time on any other diet I would have fell off the wagon and ate the wagon by now... keep up the great work and please do a new photo when you meet your goal...
  15. before I had my surgery I also saw a lot of horror stories.. however, you need to write down the advantage of lapband and possible disadvantage. my advantages outweighed the disadvantages. I tried every diet and gimmick out there.. the main problem for me was hunger.. constant hunger no matter what I tried.. even diet pills would wear off and I'd be starving.. since being banded that issue is better.. I get hungry but not every minute.. it takes me about 4 hours from my meal to start feeling hungry and then it only takes a small portion to make me happy... I still believe the band was my best choice.. I know people who had gastric bypass, they don;t look healthy.. hang in there and remember that everyone is different.. do what is best for you..
  16. I was told to take a multivitamin (Flintstones is my choice) and B12 every day.. vitamin D is recommended if you are not out in the Sun much.. (fortunately I live in Fla.) I have good energy. try it and you will see a difference.
  17. I did HCG last year.. lost 50 lbs... however, I did the homeopathic... in order to get the real HCG you have to get it from another country.. it's illegal in the U.S. anyway, it worked but if you eat 500 calories a day now without the HCG you will lose 1 lb a day I am sure.. as soon as I quit doing that diet, I felt so bad, no energy and lost hair.. I immediately started eating anything that didn't move ... gained every lb back and then some. I finally decided to get the band. I have lost 28 lbs since being banded in Jan and I feel great.. I think HCG and other diets are a temporary thing and make you feel so deprived you go back to eating worse.
  18. chicfilet is also good for chicken tortilla soup.. it's so good and only 260 calories.. good amt of protein also. applebees has a good selection also. I do not eat out often either but like to have options when I do. I'm getting better at making good choices ....I ate some chicken nuggets from Wendy's the other night, got caught while traveling. They weren't bad I only ate 3 of them...
  19. I have eaten eggs since I could eat real food.. actually when I was on soft foods, I had some eggbeaters scrambled but I can eat real eggs easily... I do put some turkey sausage and some cheese in them to make omelettes.. they all go down easily... even fried eggs do well as long as I keep the bites small...
  20. I had my first fill yesterday... I was banded on 1/15.. have lost 28 lbs also... yes I am doing liquids yesterday and today, then soft or creamy tomorrow... I am hungry though.. I am not sure if that is normal. but I can get through it... I am very happy with my band so far...
  21. I have diabetes II.. had my surgery on Jan 15, I have lost 28 lbs.. I do not take any of the diabetic medication I was on now.. My family Dr. took me off of the glipcide when I was on the pre=op diet to keep me from having a low blood sugar.. I check my sugar each day and it remains in a good range. just make sure you keep your regular Dr. informed.I think you already have a good handle on it.. you will be surprised how much better you will feel after losing some weight.. that is why I decided to have the lap band so I would have a healthier life... good luck on your journey
  22. Your age isn't the problem.. I am 66 and I had my surgery on 1/15.. I was really sore and couldn't take the pain meds because it caused nausea... I took children;'s tylenol (liquid) and used a heating pad and walked around the house about every hour... rest is so important as well.. I was surprised as well but now I feel like a million bucks.. have lost 28 lbs , have tons of energy... It is normal to question your decision, I thought what in the world was I thinking... but now I am very confident that it was the best decision for me.. My diabetes is under control, blood pressure down, back pain and knee pain gone.. I still have a way to go but feel for the first time in many years that I can be successful . as my mother used to say keep your eye on the doughnut.. (don't eat it)
  23. 75 lbs is awesome... your answer should be "I got this"... I have lost 75 lbs and I'm good...Thanks for your concern and advice ....Keep on doing what you are doing.. I eat eggs most days for breakfast.. We have "real" eggs from the farm.. so they are really good. I have friends and family who now leave me alone. I have lost 28 lbs since I started my journey ... surgery Jan 15th..
  24. I love Wyler's Peach Tea... way better than crystal light peach tea... I like their pink lemonade also.. I really don't like plain water either.. I try to drink a few bottles through the day but somehow it makes me hungry? I totally wait for 45 min. after I eat to drink anything so its not that ...

You will get better every day.. the gas will eventually go away... I used a heating pad on my shoulder and took some tylenol.. didn't take pain meds.. but some people have to. Good for you for taking this step before you had too many years of damage.. I am 66 and I had been overweight for at least 20 years.. I wish I had taken control back then. it's never too late though and I am very happy that I chose the lapband...The journey will be worth it.. Good Luck
