  1. I might have posted this before but I don't see it here: Wendy's chili - excellent source of Protein, low calories, also ChicFilA chicken tortilla soup . you can eat the grilled nuggets @ ChicFilA also , i'm not a fan they are a little dry for me. If I end up going to a regular restaurant I try to find a good soup on the menu. No Bread, No Pasta for me and No Rice .
  2. so happy to see this post. I am anticipating going to Alaska in Aug. I have a bit of fear about the buffets however, right now my band would not let me eat much solid food. But I am a sweet addict. I know those ships have marvelous Desserts so I am really going to have to watch it. I agree though about the struggle, there are times when it's so difficult but I know I would be immobile or possibly crippled by diabetes . I also had high blood pressure, real threat of a stroke. so, I will take this struggle over losing my life to obesity.
  3. oh Steve that is a true statement. I find sometimes successful weight loss brings out all the "experts". I tell people who ask me questions about dieting that if I were such a great dieter I wouldn't have needed surgery. I only know what my doctor tells me. But, sometimes I catch myself looking at a obese person and thinking wow they should do something about that weight. I think it's human nature an part of the process is that we sometimes think we have found the answer. In reality we all have had the same struggle and I have the fear that I will fail every day. I guess that is why I read posts on here and watch all the obesity shows on t.v I have recommended lapband surgery to several people who have asked but I don't offer advice without them asking.
  4. I totally Agree with the assessment of Mrs. O'Donnell.. She is a crazy witch who is always running her pie hole about something she knows nothing about. As for the View what a insult to or intelligence.. None of these women are smart enough to give advice to anyone. My band and I are totally happy, Thank You very Much Rosie...
  5. If they are truly your friends they will be happy for you. so, if your decision to get healthy and happy threatens them somehow you shouldn't feel bad. Everyone has to make up their own mind about health issues. No one can make your friends realize that they need to lose weight, hopefully they will see your success and follow your lead. Concentrate on yourself and make new friends at the gym or at your support group. Best of luck.
  6. Melinda so sorry to hear you had to part with your band.. so the plication is like sleeve? or what? I thought you had to have a band with plication. I love your short and chunky name.. I always feel short and chunky- @ 5'0" I don't think I look thin ever. I now weigh 138 but I want to weigh less of course.. I hope your plication is successful for you and you continue to maintain your loss... I live in Florida too, but near Lake City area.
  7. Alex I find that the sleeve and bypass folks like to troll on the lapband forums and bash the bandsters. I am very discouraged by the constant barrage of negativity regarding the band. I had hoped that the combination of all of the WLS forums would not result in a contest to see whose surgery was the best but it's obvious that the ease with which they can come to our forum and post negative about the lapband is too much. I would respectfully request that you or someone moniter some of this behavior. I think if it continues I will withdraw from visiting the Bariatric pal site. There are positive sites I can visit to get information and encouragement.
  8. While we all want to share our success with WLS I doubt back in my heavy days if someone came up to me and said have you considered WLS I would have been p'd off. It took many years for me to face my problem and most people have to make their own decision as to when it is time. My stepdaughter was almost 300 lbs @ 5'3 and my husband told me I should tell her to have lapband.. I said absolutely not. She would have resented me for interfering in her life and probably wouldn't listen. She is now on a weight loss plan and has lost 85 lbs through dieting and exercise.. I am so proud of her and I pray it last. But now and again we consult on nutrition but I still do not give her advice.
  9. My thoughts are very similar to yours.. I think the show is cruel . It is a unrealistic view on obese people. Jillian is a tyrant I think they should have left her off the show period. I like Bob okay and Dovett is a good trainer too. Rachel was going to win from the beginning, she has a competetative personality but I think she looks too thin. I have lost 60 lbs this year it has been slow but steady and I am healthy. Biggest Loser has become a soap opera. All the psycho analysis by these trainers is ridiculous and disingenuius .
  10. You Can do it... If you keep your eye on the prize.. the prize is your health... We are all rooting for you.
  11. Ed I know you will be so happy that you decided to do this. I debated and hem hawed around for months but when I finally made that step I was determined to follow through. My health was at stake. If you look at some of the veterans on here like Jim and CG you will see that they have lost massive amounts of weight and have regained their lives.. Best to you and we are all here to help you on your journey..
  12. Fantastic . I was diabetic as well and have not had to take any medication (metformin or glypcide) for a year . I was on track to start taking insulin before my band surgery.
  13. yes I have a home office and my own business so I am doubly lucky but after my surgery I had a hard time working all day. It took me a good 2 weeks to feel fairly normal. Take your time, get lots of rest and stay hydrated.. it will get better but it takes time..
  14. I ate at the Roadhouse about 4 weeks post op but I had mashed potatoes and applesauce.. I can't do much salad even now. I am 1 year post op.. now I can eat at roadhouse, I eat steak bites off of the children's menu and green beans.. no bread or potatoes.
  15. Jim you are so right.. I was so aggravated with Penny on the 600 lb life show.. I wanted so much to see her succeed. I know about being obese (not morbidly) and I know she has a very difficult and long road ahead. I sometimes forget that I was also in denial and did not want to follow the rules . Being humble is a good thing and thank you for reminding me. I think I want everyone to have the best outcome with their WLS. I am praying that they have a follow up segment where Penny gets it and is on a path to success...
  16. Woo Hoo that is what we call a NSV... Fantastic for you.

I think all of us have that fear.. I saw a lady today @ Walmart with huge legs and she was barely able to walk to the electric cart.. she looked to be younger than me but Lord help her she was so sad looking.. I know I was headed for the electric cart myself ..could hardly make it through the store without leaning on the grocery cart... I thank God everyday that I decided to take charge of my health and got my band before it was too late... it's moments like these that make you say there by the Grace of God go I...

  19. good luck... you will do great.. it's a few days of discomfort but so worth it..
  20. Terry I tried the protein shake for breakfast for a few mornings when I was in a hurry, but found myself to be really hungry in a couple of hours.. I pretty much stick with eggbeaters, turkey sausage and wheat toast ..it keeps me happy for 4 hours or more.

Awesome post .... Change is a wonderful thing... and life is so short and precious to waste on eating crap . Wish I could get my husband to make me a garden but his idea of a small garden is 5 acres.. lol
  22. average loss with the band is 1-2 lbs a week it will be slow but if you follow the rules you will be successful....
  23. sounds like a great time.. shopping is such fun when you can find cute things in smaller sizes... another great reason to lose weight and get healthy....
