Omg! I am 3 weeks post op and there has been nothing easy about this. I'm not even loosing weight as fast as others. 11 lbs in 3 weeks...25 total. But I'm loosing. This is the hardest "diet" I have ever been on. I don't tell people I had the surgery for the reasons you listed above. We've all lost 45 lbs before...just didn't keep it off. I've lost count of how many lbs I've lost. Those people are not your friends.
Ask them why they think having someone cut out 80% of your stomach, going liquid diet for 4-6 weeks, soft mushy foods, reflux, lactose intolerance, Constipation and diarrhea, bad breath, low energy, is "the easy way?" What exactly are they doing that is more difficult than all of that???

Doing well. Sleeved July 2nd 2012. Hit goal about a month ago and +- a few lbs depending on what my body wants to do with Water. Started at 360 a month before surgery and am 180 today. I stalled out a lot during the loss phase, probably every 2 weeks after October 2012. Just kept my chin up and stuck to plan. Did not allow the desire to snack or eat snack related foods overwhelm my desire to achieve success. I started out just walking every day after surgery and slowly increased miles and intensity until switching over to ellyptical at month 2. Did ellyptical 1/2 heartily until month 5, but it certainly helped. Started running at month 5 after being motivated by many VST runners. Have not looked back since figuratively. Today I am running 10 k and working on training for a 1/2 by summer. It is amazing what you can do by setting personal goals and sticking to it. Also started cross fit a few weeks ago with an eventualgoal of becoming athlete strong. I am not so strong at the moment. Good luck and keep your eyes on the prize, whatever that may be for you. Feel free to PM me if you want.

I refuse to answer that question because it may tend to incriminate me, and my personal interest in preserving my dignity.

The best birth control is laughter. When he takes his clothes off, point at Mr. Happy and laugh!

I get them, too...and usually burp a lot, too. Thankfully, they aren't really loud! I'm almost 7 months out. My husband will still laugh at the sounds my stomach still makes!

Anyone who wants to know, I even put it on Facebook (J/k).
Serously, I don't have any problems with anyone knowing I have had surgery, if I can help someone else I'm all for it. I don't worry about what others say or think about me.

Hey, trust me it well get better, you need to tell your "fat brain" to get out of your head and let your "thin brain" take over. Just keep telling yourself you can do it, take it one day at a time, one pound at a time and before you know it your the skinny guy in the room... At least that's what my support team keep telling me. I know when I have put on a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to wear for a long time, and they fit, something is working.... So stay positive....

shelly77 got a reaction from Dreamingofhealth in 6 month post-op & nurse prac sending me to hair specialist
So, I'm 11 days short of 7 months. I had my 6 month checkup yesterday and my nurse practitioner is so concerned with my incredible Hair loss that she's referring me to a dermatologist. I've lost over half of my hair. I've always taken all my Vitamins (including Biotin), got all my Protein in, using the specialty shampoos and protein hair treatments... I'm afraid I'm going to lose all of it. I'd even wear a hat to work if I could. On a good note, all my blood tests are great. I'm off my meds, cholesterol and blood pressure are all great. I'm trying to focus on the good and positive things, but its so hard dealing with losing this amount of hair. Growing up, I loved my hair when I didn't love anything else about me. Thanks for letting me vent to people I know can possibly relate and understand.

Yeah, me too. I like the pineapple/coconut flavor from Desani. I have tried a lot of different Water enhancers such as Mio, crystal light, propel and ocean spray. Behind Desani, ocean spray and propel are good. Crystal light and Mio both give me a weird taste and feeling in throat and mouth after drinking the all day so I tend to stay away from them unless I do not have anything else. I am also finding I can drink tap water again without extra flavor. It no longer taste metallic or weird tasting. This is good as we have pretty decent water and I can save some money by just drinking the tap water without flavor.

I was just searching for some advice on this!!! I was also sleeved in July, and my hair is also coming out in handful clumps! I hate washing or brushing my hair because it seems more and more is coming out! A big disadvantage for me is that I already had thin hair-it's in my genes. I'm taking my Vitamins, including Biotin, and using specialized Shampoo. I've lost right at 60 pounds, so I'm thrilled about this, but getting depressed about my hair. My nurse practitioner has given me a referral to a specialist for female Hair loss, but after research on her website, it keeps saying over and over that meds they prescribe could cause liver damage. I'm trying to be healthier...

I battle making the right decisions every day. I let myself get too hungry and then end up reaching for anything, like I did today. One bite of something too sweet turns my stomach, but I do fight the battle with carbs!!! Someone posted a pic a few days ago of an entire family size bag of Doritos crushed and fit in this little measuring cup. Unbelievable. It's been 3 months for me and I've lost 50 lbs, but have a long way to go. Hang in there. Think about everything you've sacrificed to be healthy!!! Don't beat yourself up, just get back on the wagon!

shelly77 reacted to delta_girl in Just A Week Out And Starting To Get Really Down
I'm six weeks out and I have times during some days that I feel down. Today when I was in the grocery store, I walked by the Halloween candy and started feeling sorry for myself and wondered if any of this was worth it. Sometimes I question my decision or my ability to succeed. As I anticipate the holiday season, I also think about time with family and celebrations that include food.
If any of this was easy, we all could have done it a long time ago without medical intervention. We don't just face physical aspects of being overweight, we also have emotional aspects as well. It is easier to define the physical parts of being overweight, but the emotional part can be complex and may be very different for each of us.
Having support systems in place are a valuable resource that should be accessed at times like these. That depends on who you want to lean on: friends, family, coworkers, a local support group, this forum, etc. Just keep communicating and be patient with yourself through this time of personal growth.

You can't compare yourself to others, especially taller/ heavier people. Let's look at your situation.
    You are 4'11"
    Your SW was 191lb
    Your CW is 176lb
A normal BMI starts at 124 for you.
You had 67lbs of excess body weight the day of your surgery.
In 1 month you have lost 22.3% of your excess body weight. I personally think that is great!!
    Don't think pounds. Think percentages.
