  1. Why are some post-op diets so liberal and others do constrictive? My sleeve was done on July 9th and I can't even have puréed food yet? Is there a reason for this? Is it just different surgeons' opinions? What gives?
  2. You were allowed to have alcohol 12 days after your surgery?
  3. I started getting told that I look younger almost immediately. I've only lost 30 pounds so far and the more I lose, the more I hear it.
  4. Look at it this way: if you could lose all the weight and keep it off without the surgery, you probably would have done so already.
  5. My NUT told me not to have baby food. I'm not sure why exactly, but I think it's because baby food is really just for babies. Besides, most of it is disgusting. Just my two cents.
  6. It's funny...I'm only 3 weeks out and I had a small spoonful of what I thought was just cottage cheese, but it turned out to have small chuncks of pineapple in it. The super-sweet taste of the pineapple was almost too much for my mouth. It tasted really cloying and made my face scrunch up. I never thought I'd react negatively to a sweet taste, but there you have it...
  7. I totally agree with you on the word "sleeved". I know it's common business practice these days to "verb" nouns. For example, my boss said to me this morning, "You've been tasked with this project and I need you to action it immediately. You've been goaled at 78%.". It drives me crazy for some reason. So the word "sleeved" makes me bristle as well for this reason.
  8. Yes, I'm experiencing that as well. I can only eat about a half cup of anything, but 30-45 min later I'm hungry again. It's bizarre. I'm experience more hunger pain now than I was before surgery.
  9. I actually haven't been using it for very long. Although my NUT suggested I use pro-biotics pre- and post-op, I didn't begin using it until about a week ago. My NUT didn't specifically suggest this brand though. She actually suggested a brand that is no longer made, so I chose this brand myself. There are much cheaper probiotics out there that are just as good, I'm sure. Green Vibrance has a lot of "extras" in it that drives up the price. Have I noticed any positive differences? Not yet, but I've only been using it for a week.
  10. My NUT suggested probiotics pre- and post surgery. I do Vibrant Health Green Vibrance powder. I just throw it into my protein shake.
  11. This is going to be my canned response. So poetic and poignant.
  12. Oh the irony. And another good example of how diets don't work (she had the cake anyway). A few days after my surgery I was craving macaroni and cheese, and I complained to a friend about it and he asked, "Can't you chew it and just not swallow?" The look I gave him must have been so withering that he immediately changed the subject!
  13. Right?!? I have a couple friends who act like it's a tragic handicap that I don't drink. It's such a part of their lives that the idea of not drinking just doesn't compute. Maybe I need to find new friends, lol!
  14. You're absolutely right. I'm not going to let them deter me in any way, and I am committed to this whole process of eating more healthfully. And I am happy and comfortable with my decision--it just throws me off when they ask these questions because I never expect them. I'm going to have to come up with some polite canned response to deflect the situation.
  15. I'm 20 days post-op and I've explained as much as I could to my friends and family what this surgery is all about. But no matter how much I explain it to these people, they keep asking me the "When can you have ____?" questions. You know, "When can you have ice cream again?" "When can you have hamburgers again?" "When can you drink alcohol again?" It seems all they're interested in is when I can start eating/drinking certain foods again. They just don't get it. I've tried to be patient and explain to them that it's not just a surgery, it's also a lifestyle change. But they seem to fixate on the whole "timeline" aspect of it. And they never stop to consider that the last thing I want to do is think about all the foods I can't have yet (or can't have anymore). And god forbid I tell them something like, "I can't have soda anymore," they respond with that wide-eyed "No!! Oh wowwww!!!" in a tone that clearly indicates galactic doom. It's just not what I need right now and I've had to brusquely tell them to stop talking to me about it. I feel bad, but I can't take it anymore. Has anyone else encountered this phenomenon?
  16. I have sleep apnea, and my sleep doctor told me that if I got my weight under 165 I wouldn't need the CPAP machine to sleep. So that's my goal weight. I've been under 165 as an adult before and I know this is true. I'm not sure why this is the magic number, but it might be from a calculation of my height and build. My sleeve doctor asked me what my goal weight was, and I told him 165. He didn't argue, so I assumed that was a good number.
  17. I've been lactose intolerant since I was a teenager and I've never felt queasy or any kind of indigestion from it. But yes, I've cleared entire subway cars with the gaseous results.
  18. I can't believe I'm actually misty-eyed at this! This is the happiest thing I think I've ever seen! I'm so happy for you. What a feeling that must be.
  19. My surgeon and NUT told me no more soda ever. The same goes for caffeine. Luckily for me, I never liked either. I don't care how many Olympic athletes they show drinking Coke in those commercials, or how many "studies" are done telling us that caffeine is a health product, I can't imagine either being good for us.
  20. I'm 18 days out and I'm having a similar problem. I'm at a point now where I have that "gnawing hunger" feeling in my stomach nearly all the time now, all day long. It's not head hunger, it's that almost cramping hunger and it's starting to make me concerned. I thought one of the benefits of the surgery was to not feel so hungry all the time, but it's actually gotten worse post-surgery. I thought maybe it was just extreme thirst, but I drink water all day long and that doesn't help. Even after I have my protein shake or soup, about 10 minutes later I start feeling it again. Should I call my doctor?
