Well! One set of in laws down and two BFFs and so far so good! I think they are all a little worried because of horror stories they heard from so and so cousins friends aunt. But they listened and asked questions and everything went well.
Lol. Though, I really thought I was going to throw up right before I told my mother in law. She loves me dearly though and is already very supportive!! Thank goodness!!

I agree that counseling is the way to go. I wish you all the best and hope you and your hubby can work this out. Deep down, he probably does want you to be healthier and may need a little perspective from an objective third party in how to communicate that to you. You are probably a great cook and he is feeling maybe a kind of "food funeral by proxy" if you know what I mean.

kimbernada reacted to gamergirl in Underneath all this fat, awaits a gorgeous, healthy body
Got a new fat/muscle scale yesterday. Although I almost had a seizure at seeing how many lbs of fat I have to lose, I choose to focus on the fact that I have 73 lbs of muscle! That means that to get to my goal weight(150 lbs) and fat percentage (25%), theoretically all I have to do is keep all my muscle and lose 60lbs of the fat. I know, I know it doesn't work like that, but I'm playing head games with myself to motivate myself. I choose to focus on what's right with my body and how to enhance it.
I have muscles underneath all this fat. And one day soon, I will see them. And I will be healthy, I will be strong, and I will be able to do the things I want. I will finally learn to scuba dive. I might be able to start lifting weights again without all my joints hurting. I won't need help hauling a 30 lb bag of dog food. I will be able to hike if I want to and I will become a strong swimmer.
Because underneath all this fat, awaits a gorgeous, healthy body. And I intend to find it.

Great point RickM! I always try to pick where we are going to eat ahead of time, and ALWAYS go online and look at the menu if there is one before we go to eat so that I have a plan before I get there. I might change my mind based on daily specials, but I always have the fall back decision.

The biggest thing to keep in mind, at least to me, is that you need to remember that you WILL have stalls. Sometimes long stalls. With "diets", this the point where most of us just give up OR we try crazy ways to make the scale show us a smaller number. We don't really have that option once we've had 85% of our stomach permanently removed. Some folks do try to resort to zanier things to get through the stall. It's not worth it. Just keep to your doctor's plan and you will bust through the stall.
Stalls are actually good for us. It's our body catching up with the weight loss. Some folks who regularly take body measurements have found that they are still losing inches even though the scale isn't showing a loss.
My first stall started at week 3 and lasted for THREE weeks.
To keep successful for the rest of your life? Use what you learn after the surgery and keep with it. Protein first, drink your fluids, enjoy life! I was talking with someone else the other day and said that I'm restricted to about a maximum of 1 cup of food at a meal. It's up to ME to pick the right foods. I could eat a cup of Hershey's Kisses.. or I could have 3 ounces of grilled chicken breast, 1/4 vegetables, and maybe some fruit. (I do need work on drinking my fluids - I just seem to have "Fluid amnesia".)

Ha... and I used to have "food amnesia" before surgery. When doing Weight Watchers, if I didn't write it down, I forgot I ate it.
I use My Fitness Pal to track my food now. It sure helps to make sure I get in at least 85 grams of Protein. I've been kind of lax lately on journaling and I really have no clue how much Protein I've had today or the last couple of days. I will be hopping back on that horse. I like being in control.

    Two things...
Sometimes if someone sees us everyday it may be so gradual that its not noticeable right away.
You should talk to him about your feelings he has no way to know how you feel unless you tell him
Oh, off subject what support group did you go to?
    Was it good Sam?

Would counseling for YOU help? It might help to figure out why you've been so moody, etc., and help you to work on body image issues. It could be that if seeing a counselor works for you, then perhaps your husband will see the value as well.
I know I sure didn't feel like being romantic at my highest weight.

Not really, that just made me laugh.
I'm 3+ months post-op and haven't tried salad yet. I just don't have room by the time I get my Protein in.
I would check your doctor's instructions... mine didn't allow for fresh veggies of any sort until 7 weeks post-op.

kimbernada got a reaction from LifetimeLoser in Gone from size 24 to 16 and no one seems to notice? What about you?
Yep, I was probably closes to 70 pounds down before anyone said anything. Then again, I kind of faked them out because I was wearing pretty much the SAME clothes, only in smaller sizes. (Seriously, I had a separate closet of new pants, same brand, same style, just in various smaller sizes.) Once I ventured out past my comfort zone, and got different styles and colors, people really noticed. (Probably because I went from drab browns, navy, black to bright purple pants.) LOL Only my team mates at work knew that I had wls - and I only told them the week before the surgery.
There was a guy at work who dropped 60 pounds and no one wanted to say anything to him because they thought it might be cancer. Turns out he was on a low-carb diet!

I can honestly say that I NEVER had any remorse about this surgery. I feel like I was well prepared prior to surgery. I had no gas pains and the only thing that stressed me out after the surgery was that the liquid pain med had no refills! I weaned myself off so that I was only taking it at night to sleep. I slept in my bed immediately after home from surgery. I also started on soft food the first full day home (two days after surgery) as per my doctor's plan. I took two weeks off from work but could have gone back after the first week - but I'm glad I didn't.

Excellent blog post.. but everyone please note: Serendipity Happens welcomes everyone to tell her how fabulous she looks.. as long as it's not from the Korean lady who came into my store the other day and told me "oooh, you look good now, not so fat like before.. before you was sooooooooooo fat." I kid you not.

I've never used the card. I'd much rather be able to bring leftovers home Although yesterday I had lunch with friends at a HuHot. I did ask if I could pay the child's price and mentioned that I'd had wls, so I'd only have a tiny amount of food. Nope, they don't do that. Oh well, I just won't go there very often. (Criminies, their weekend price is $11.99 and you can't take the leftovers home.) I've only been there twice in the last year since surgery. Any other restaurant meal gives me at least three more meals with the leftovers, so it's pretty economical. (Or a meal for me and one for the hubs from my leftovers.)

kimbernada reacted to Daydra in fit bit and other trackers
I was unimpressed with the fitbit. I have used a Bodybugg for several years and just upgraded to the newer Bodymedia Link. It is a sensor that is worn on the back of your left arm with an armband. I'm extremely confident in the accuracy of the monitor (except for sleeping. It's way off for sleeping, but I would expect anything would be off for me, because I have a sleeping disorder and I spend a lot of time reading in bed at night waiting to go to sleep.). It is a triple axis accelerometer with skin temperature, galvanic skin response, and heat flux sensors (just sounds sexy and technical, doesn't it?). I love the amount of data that it provides. I could tell you for any 6minute segment of the day how many calories/minute I was burning. I was using the bodybugg (which is basically just the older version) while I was really dedicated to weight loss and triathlon. The data, tracking, and interface helped me to lose 115 pounds. I knew every week what my weight loss was going to be based on my downloaded data and my food log long before I ever stepped on the scale.
I have 2 complaints about the Bodymedia: 1 - it's not invisible, so I sometimes have to explain that thing I'm wearing (but that can be fun sometimes, because people think it's cool) and 2 - it's not waterproof, so I can't use it to measure calories I burn during a swim.
MyFitnessPal interacts with the Bodymedia interface. You can link your accounts and use MFP to log your food if that's what you're comfortable with and it will be transferred to your Bodymedia interface so you can look at all your other data.
I can't say enough good things about the Bodymedia... but I guess I'm a bit of a geek...
