N G Tube After Lap Band
were any of you told that after having the lap band, having an NG Tube done can be dangerous, if the dr inserting the tube is not aware of your band? i have a friend who had hte band and later had bypass...yesterday she brought this up to me...i called my surgeon and sure enough, they said that if the doctor that is inserting the tube isnt aware of your band, they may force it and you can asparate...now if you know u will be having a NG tube used then no problem, u can tell doc and they will know to be cautious wiht it... but what if you get an an accident, are knocked out cold, and while in the E.R, they need to use one for some reason, and noone is there from family to tell them and you obviously cant. I asked if it would be a good idea to have a medical bracelet stating that I have the lap-band, and they said yes. It may be a situation that may never happen, but it scares me at the thought that it could. was just wondering if it was ever mentioned to any of you or if it has, do you were a medical bracelet or necklace stating you have the band. I have the card in my wallet, but the jewelry would be noticed right away.

Has Anyone Had Lapband Surgery With A Heavier Weight/bmi?

Had No Idea
im on same meds but havent taken since saturday night. I have been keeping activity to a minimum tho...i wouldnt say im not in any pain..definitely feel by the port and pulling around the incisions...but the meds made me high in like 5 mins , and i would be asleep in like 20 mins...hate spending my day sleeping lol..Now, if the pain meds would help with the pain from the gas..id be drinking it like Water...but it wasnt so i have been doing without. I get staples out today, friend told me i may feel more pain after, and will prob want the meds again a time or two..so we will see. I too was banded on 4/26

Had No Idea
my pain has been minimal outside of the gas pain. i havent taken pain meds since saturday night (i was banded thursday afternoon) i do have some soreness around the incisions but mostly cuz of the pulling of the staples i think. They come out today..so we shall see. A friend said after they are out i may actually be in pain still, jsut a different kind of pain..so who knows lol. whatever you do, dont second guess your decision, the pain and icky feelings after the surgery are not life long...what is life long is the improved health you will have from making this decision. feel better!

What Does Being Stuck Feel Like
Rebecca Cain Salpacka replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&Ai was banded 4/26 and what you describe sounds like the gas pain i have..except it doesnt effect my head. if u are finding that after you drink u wanna burp but instead u get the pain u described..then its most likely gas. Im still having it and some say it can last few days or 2 weeks...but for me what has gave some relief is moving. i try to get up and walk around house while im drinking my Water, then the burp comes up and releases..more times than not anyway

Bmi Too High...
My personal thought about the sleeve is tho its not quite as drastic as the bypass...they still have to remove a portion of your actual stomach..1..that makes it more evasive and longer recovery, 2...if you have complications, the procedure cant be removed like the band can 3. your BMI is not an automatic no for having the LB..my BMI is 65 and they never once suggested it couldnt be done. The first two reasons are the key reasons i never even considedered the sleeve. someone said in a earlier comment on this thread, that they had 3 docs before they got someone to do what they wanted ... the band. So yes its a hassle changing docs..but check around..you WILL find someone that will do it...

What Does Being Stuck Feel Like
Rebecca Cain Salpacka replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AWOW...you all have done well at describing it..and I pray i never make the mistakes that will cause it to happen..but realistically i know it happens to EVERYONE at least once....thanks for the comments..i definitely have a better idea of what to expect... this gas pain im dealing with now is awful..and getting stuck definitely sounds 50 times worse...very scary.

What Does Being Stuck Feel Like
im sure everyone will say "when you get stuck you will know" and im sure i will...but before i am at the point that i am on solids..id like to have an idea of what i might feel (praying it wont be anytime soon) does it feel much like the gas pains?j just trying to get an idea.

Day 7 Post Op- Trapped Wind Anyone??
nope its very common..im 3 days post op but everything im reading on here and from what doc says..it can last as long as 2 weeks unfortuantely. the biggest help is moving. I am using gas-x strips that melt on your tongue..that got me releasing some from the "other" end...but the burping is still an issue. I went outside and tossed a small soft ball back and forth my son, and burped more than i have in the last month lol. So moving is the key...i sip everything im having very slow and still have the prob so most likely you arent doing it too fast either. just keep moving..its a pain in the behind, but it will passs eventually

Drinking Water
dont think u can have to much..but i have read and also been told by doc and nutritionist..never gulp or guzzle liquids, it can cause you to take in more air...sipping is best

Edema 3 Days Post-Op
So for broth, instead of buying cans of broth cuz the taste is awful..i have been buying progresso light chicken noodle and draining the broth (my son eats the noodles and veggies) I did not buy the low sodium one because during the week pre-op i did the light one as well and never had an issue with edema. this morning however i woke up with noticable swelling in my feet and ankles...im sure its from the broth adn maybe because i only had 32 oz of Water yesterday..but it was all i could handle. I had 1 cup of broth 3 different times yesteday and honestly only reason i had it was to have something in me to take my lortab so i didnt get nauseas (per instructions from surgeon) otherwise i would have been fine in my plain water, crystal light, and sf popsicles my plan today is more water and less broth..just hope i can do with less meds then. i have torsemide that my primary gave me last fall when i had a bout of edema that seemed to last over a month...havent taken it in forever, but considered calling surgeon and seeing if it would be ok to take..but im gonna see if it goes down at all by mid day from me increasing my water oh and yes i have been up and walking becasue i know that helps eleviate it as well, and when i am sitting i will elevate my feet. anyone else have this issue right after surgery and what did you do

Day 3 Of Surgery
not specifically..but the nutritionist has pounded in my head that no matter what stage of the diet you are at, make sure u get your protein..harder to do on Clear liquids..but with the mushies u can get protein by pureeing chicken and other things that are high in protein..i know pureed chicken doesnt sound good..but its not to bad. I tasted it back when my sis had gastric bipass surgery
-
Day 3 Of Surgery
protein helps make u feel full and gives you energy, so i dont know how bad it is that we do without it..but as long as what u have has decent amt of protein in it, u should be ok i would think

Day 3 Of Surgery
ive got conflicting info from my surgeon about diet. My surgery was 4/26. During consultation She told me Clear Liquids for first week post op..then the pamphlets she gave me said i can do both clear and full liquids for first week, just like the diet i did for the week before surgery. Yesterday when she discharged me she said LIQUIDs (didnt specify verbally on clear or full) for a few days and that if i started to feel hungry i can go to the mushies...the discharge paper just said clear liquids and didnt specify how long lol i guess technically its not funny...but i have decided to do what i feel i can handle..i havent had any nausea from the clear liquid so far..gonna do them one more day..and then monday go to full liquids...i see her on tuesday to get staples out of my incisions and as long as i have kept down full liquids i will do them til wednesday, and then start mushies at one week (thursday)...i will stay on mushies for 2 weeks tho, because that is one thing that seems to be consistent in what she told me and what i have read..is that mushies u do for 2 weeks.

16 Hours Post-Op Nit To Bad
So I got.out of surgery around 4pm yesterday. First 5-6 hours I was miserable. I had to stay overnight so I have been on IV fluids to keep me hydrated. So I peed every ten mins and getting in and out of bed was a pain. Finally they brought me a chair to sit in..that's where I slept....in between bathroom trips..which did slow down lol. Its 715 a.m and I still can't have Water I have to wait for xray to check everything is where it should b..then if I can keep liquids down I go home this afternoon ...which is a surprise because she told me two nights originally. Pain....gas pain was a 8 at worst...pain meds have kept other pain almost non existent...this morning only a touch of gas pain..so feeling pretty good. Will post again from home this evening.

Freaking Out About Todays Appointment
Rebecca Cain Salpacka replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&ASo i have lost anohter 6 lbs, down total of 13..Surgeon was verrry happy with that..i told her my concern, she felt around where my liver is and said she doesnt feel anything that would cause concern..said it is always possible it may be a little enlarged, but she has no reason to think it would be so bad that they cant do the surgery between the good news with the numbers on the scale..and her telling me that...i am on cloud nine...Thursday cant get here fast enough.
