  1. I stayed overnight and really just slept a lot! Didnt so much as turn on the tv or mess around on my phone more than just to tell everyone I was alright. Between naps I was being poked and prodded...took a couple strolls in the hall, and that was all the time I had really. I guess everyone is different but time flew and I would've had zero interest surfing on my laptop.
  2. The band is only a tool! It doesn't choose the right low calorie foods for you, it doesn't take you to the gym and burn the calories for you! If you work the band and lose the weight, give yourself some credit! You may have already chosen to get the band but youre going to have to choose to do the things it takes to drop pounds too - and follow thru with them - so dont sell yourself short when youre successful. Telling people you have the band is a personal choice, especially considering the number of misconceptions, but don't brush off compliments like it wasn't your decisions & actions that got you looking fabulous!
  3. Atkins shakes are tasty, I like the coffee one.
  4. Firstly you want to find out if weight loss surgery is covered by your insurance at all. It varies by company what they require for approval -- bmi, dietician visits, a certain amt of pre op weight loss, etc. most bariatric programs will have someone who deals with insurance & can help you get more information on whats required both by your provider. Look into an informational session in your area.
  5. Congratulations on your losses, thats amazing! What a great time to feel better about being in pictures, huh? Laddie, what did you stand in line so long for?? I dont care how fat I am, sounds boring! Lol. Nsv's of any kind feel good.

Hey my starting weight was the same, and I was banded the same week as you. congrats on your weight loss, thats phenomenal! I'd lost 14 pounds at my 1 week follow up but im not sure how much I've lost since, I dont own a scale! Not anything close to your losses im sure! Keep up the great work!
  7. I was on clear liquids for a week pre op too -- it really is awful! Its just what my doctors practice requires for everyone, but is hard logging on and reading about people who can have whatever they like pre op, isnt it? Who knows whats best and whats just overly cautious, no agreement amongst doctors it seems, but better you stick with what youre told just in case! Hang in there, its not forever!
  8. Havent been nauseous at all post op, im so thankful! I was particularly fearful because all I did during my cesarean was puke! Id rather feel pain than nausea, thats the worst, particularly considering the nature of the surgery. I hope you feel better, let us know what you find that helps!
  9. Just follow your doctors instruction and you'll be fine! Especially the couple days right before, some people are instructed to just do clear liquids/fast for that short amount of time and do great come surgery. Pre op diets vary a ton by doctor!
  10. How much did you expect to lose per week going into this? 4.5 pounds lost in a week sounds good to me. would you have lost the weight youre losing without the lapband? many of us sure wouldnt be. this is a time for healing, most importantly but take every pound lost as a victory because it is. You didnt get fat overnight either, give it some time. Sounds like a discouraging doctor...
  11. Wondering if its normal that the ends of my port incision are a little wet 3 weeks post op? Almost weepy? Im terrified about infection; the only antibiotics I have are in petroleum form, wondering also if applying this is countering the healing process? I wasnt stitched, stapled or glued - only taped & those strips are long gone, hope the moisture isn't pulling me apart..
  12. Hi charlie! Youre definitely not alone in being scared & unsure, every bandster has been there! I went back & forth with the decision every day & it felt like a ton of bricks was sitting on my chest every time I thought about the surgery. The further I got into the process, the more panicked I felt when I considered NOT going through with it, though. After each day of cursing how fat I was, feeling self conscious, day dreaming about life if I was thin...and here I'd found this solution that wouldn't be just another failed diet, it was something that would hold me accountable & enable me to get the job done! How could I give up on this path to my new healthier, better looking life?? There was no turning back once Id started. I was terrified of surgery -its a big deal! - and just as addicted to food; eating is the highlight of my day by far. But I went through with it because I couldnt stand the disappointment of giving up...and charlie, ill tell you now that im on week 3 of my post op liquid diet and it SUCKS but I havent regretted the band once! gosh, if I can live on liquids and love my band, I imagine eating solids again will be heaven! Its so exciting and such a relief to finally be on a path leading to where I want to be, im so optimistic! There will be bumps I know but I wont fall off like every failed diet & gym phase in the past. I tried on some clothes at the store yesterday and eh, they didn't look too great, but I didnt dispair like every time in the past because im slowly losing and I KNOW theyll look better soon. Its the most hopeful, exciting feeling ever! The band might not be for everyone but my advice to you is that if you truly want to lose weight and live healthier (and in turn, probably a lot happier), put your fears aside!
  13. When you say it didnt go down, does that mean it came back up? Or just didnt pass thru the band? I have such a hard time stomaching that stuff and if I puke it all up I dont know whether to blame the band or my dusgust! Lol. Was it the chaulky variety they had you take post-fill, or the more rancid applejuice sort? :shiver:
  14. That sounds horrible , I really hope you find something that works for you!
  15. We were banded on the same day im optimistic.
  16. That's awesome, congratulations!
  17. Good luck, let us know how it goes!
  18. My dr doesnt give me a mushy stage; its liquids til my fill, then solids, telling me to avoid anything thats eaten with a spoon or slippery/slimy. I get that this is to prevent food from just sliding thru, and enabling the band to do what its there to do... but apple sauce and cream of wheat are gonna be on the MENU ANYWAY, SUCKA! Im getting so sick of broth and shakes.....barf..
  19. Nope, no miscommunication between me and dr/dietition, its just what the program requires unfortunately! I cant eat solids until after my first fill and with the pre op clear diet and post fill clear diet, this comes to 7 weeks on liquids. It seems unhealthy & impossible sometimes but I guess ill do what I have to! Ive made it this far by trying to convince myself this is whats best to let my body heal...but then I come on here and no one else is on liquids this long! Thats the hardest part...I feel alone & jealous! Lol. My doc has rave reviews and the practice is a center of excellence, etc, etc, but so are a lot of yours so I guess hes just overly careful...or paranoid...or cruel... Anyway, thank you guys for your support and sympathy. 'If youre going through hell, keep going!'
  20. NO, I WISH I was a few days away from mushies! Im so jealous of bandsters who get to progress at a humane rate -- I have almost 5 weeks left of liquids! cooking for & feeding my son is the worst..... I HAD BETTER LOOK AMAZING YOU a*****e SURGEON!!! ..sorry...im going through some things... X.x
  21. Im almost two weeks post op and I HATE YOU, LIQUIDS!!!!!!
  22. Oh no, id never been told no gum! How depressing! Im a big gum chewer. maybe something to do with the xylitol or sorbitol or whatever fake sweetener thats supposed to cause bloat? Wow I never considered this til now....
  23. unfortunately, i think it really does vary by person... my surgery was thursday and i'd planned to return this coming thursday. called my boss and and asked if i could cancel the vacation days & come back today (tues) & he said no. now im stuck at home, bored & being unproductive.. letting the few vacation days ive accrued pass me by! in my case i wanted to be safe instead of sorry because i really cant use sick time if i'd underestimated my recovery. i guess it depends too how flexible your work is. if you can go back sooner than youd said you would because youre feeling great, wonderful. or if youve got a sick day or two stored, keep them in mind. so basically... no straight answer to that question. lol.
