Hello From Minnesota
This is the best support system, everyone is so nice and all the comments and posts are so helpful! I know it has helped me through this process. Being banded next week! Good luck! The site was down yesterday and I about died! So close to surgery, I like to come here for support and to learn more peoples experiences. So glad it's up and running! Cathy

Ready Set Go?
It hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. My control is mostly from being so head strong I have gotten into the "i'm ready" mode and it has been fine. I don't eat after 6 and I usually do 5pm. I do drink a lot of water. I started walking and riding an indoor exercise bike. Good luck you will do fine!

Losing Weight "naturally" - A Rant
I so agree with you! I have only told two people too. My cousin who is like a Sister and my best friend. I don't want to be judged for how I lose the weight. I am doing this to be healthy so if anyone i know is waiting for me to suddenly "naturally" drop 75pounds it's not gonna happen and I know that. I'm not waiting to get healthy because i might be harshly judge for "cheating" and losing the weight. I need to lose it now and I don't need to feel like I am watched the whole way! So that's why I have limited who I told. It took me a while to decide, but think this is the best way for me. Happy losing!

Intro And Questions!
Hi Athena! personally I went back and forth trying to weigh out the differences and what was best for me and I guess that's what it comes down to. I take a medication that I have taken for years and I was afraid of malabsorption and I really need the medicine, so I decided that the band was reversible if I needed to. I don't plan on reversing it, but if I need to it's an option. I think that if you incorporate exercise into your daily routine then you will lose a lot more. It is a tool, not a fix. I have also been to support groups where people had gotten gall stones with gastric bypass surgery and that scared me. I don't need more problems than I started out with. That's why I chose the lap band. It's not easy either way. I think you are making the right decision either way. Good luck and stick to your decision to lose weight either way. Good luck!

Considering Lapband...is It Worth It?
Everything you are thinking is normal. Deciding to have the lap band is a process. I know I had to come to terms with it and finally decided (after a year) that it was what I needed to do. I know it definitely won't be easy, but it's worth the challenge and I don't plan to look back now! I am scheduled for surgery on the 19th and as it gets closer I am nervous but excited. Think it over and weigh out what it encompasses and then make your decision. Just remember we are stronger than we think. I will let you know that this site is a god send and you will get the support you need. best wishes!

Fears And Concerns
None of these is silly! You are right with a lot of us who are going through this! A lot of those same things are what I worry about. I am afraid of judgement any way. Be it fat or thin. People are judgemental and it would suck to be them. This site is the best place to go for support! I think we understand each other most of the times.Keep up the good work and just know that what you are feeling is COMPLETELY normal!

Another Question About Physician Supervised Diet
I don't think so. They have you diet so they can see if your commited to the weight loss. So I would keep going. I started at 262 and am down to 240. But i know dang well that I can't do it all myself. I believe it just shows your commitment. Good Luck!

Borderline Low Bmi- No Co Morbities?? Can I Be Approved??
They only usually do it for people who have co-morbidy's with your BMI. Don't be discouraged though. You actually might have something that could be considered a co-morbidity that you don't realize. Talk to you surgeon and see what he say's. It is worth trying. Relax you pretty much don't have control of what they decide so I wouldn't worry. Good luck!

Pre-op Diet Problems. Advice Needed. (also Maybe Tmi)
I believe that there are other ones with that sweetener. I know that I tried a new shake and had horrible diarrea within minutes!!! It was actually just yesterday! I am going to change mine too. I would say not to stick with it if it is making you sick. I would check with your GNC store if you have one or a place where they sell vitamins and shakes. Call them and see what they say. I know they have a return policy if you can't deal with it. Some even have samples. Good luck!

Shingles??? Anybody Else
Shingle is horrible it is an adult form of chickpocks and is worsened by stress which probably is not easy to deal with. Good thing you are catching it soon it can be painful. You can probably look up the sugar part on the drug makers web site. Hope you feel better soon.
