  1. I was told to keep carbs at around 30% of my intake for the day. I try to stay lower than that because I seem to be fairly insulin resistant (most of us hefties are!!), so the farther under 30% I can get, the better. That's just me though. Any carbs taken in should, ideally be from fruits and veg, and whole grains and such. Be really picky about the carbs you choose.
  2. Pre-sleevers, don't freak out. Doesn't happen to everyone. I've never had the "pleasure" of sliming, and hope I never do. I've not thrown up since surgery either. I just wanted to say that so no one freaks out thinking you're doomed to this no matter what. Karrina-D- also make sure you absolutely chew the LIFE outta your meat. Someone on here once said "chew your food until you feel like you want to spit it out. THEN swallow it." That's about the size of it.
  3. Ok. That is just WRONG to say (insert mocking tone here) "I lost 150 pounds" and NOT give us a current picture??? DUDE!!! LOL Give it up!!! Picture please!!
  4. Eeeeeeeewwwww....the thought of those creep me out. I've heard its hard to really flush out the lines really well, and you end up with nasty stuff in 'em. Does the tank come out for cleaning? That would be MY issue with one of those. I'm a bacteria freak (not quite a 'phobe, but getting there)... Other than that...I do use straws in my protein drinks and water in restaurants that I only drink before the meal. I'm a sipper though. I take the liquid in, and let it sit in my mouth a second or two before I swallow it, so there's really no air going down. I suppose if you drink and drink and drink all at once through a straw you'd get air, but not the way I do it. (Disclaimer- don't use a straw if your doc told you not to! I'm being a rebel )
  5. J!!!! Good to hear from you!! I'm glad you're doing so well and that all the horrors you went through are becoming a distant memory. I was a noob when all that was going on, and boy it scared me too, but I know it's all in God's hands. Glad you checked in!
  6. I have "batwings" that I never had before. But I guess that means my arms aren't so full of fat now, so that's ok. But you're 23 and I'm 42, so I wouldn't worry so much if I were you. You'll snap back pretty well, I'd imagine. It depends on how much you need to lose, how long you've been overweight, how old you are...that kind of thing.
  7. Ok....I had to resurrect this post. It's funny, and delicious and sensual, and all the above. I got to have a few bites of my old favorite today, and a few bites was more than enough. Carrot cake. It was sooo moist....OH BABY!!!
  8. So my sister in law is in town. Why is that important?? Because it's time for our annual tradition of pedi/pie day!!! Uh oh....how can I do this? I've had WLS and I cannot engage in such activities!! Awwwww bullpucky! Well, there is a place here in Albuquerque called Flying Star, and they have the best desserts for miles and miles around! Especially the Rio Grande Mud Pie, which is what started our pedi/pie day adventures in the first place. I did not know how this would go since I'm not supposed to be eating these naughty bits of things in the first, second and third place! So here's what I decided: I conserved my intake to limited high protein items for the morning and only ate what i needed to stay standing upright. Then after our pedi, we went to Flying Star and I ordered carrot cake and coffee. MMMMMMM!!! So I take my huge slab of flour, sugar and fat to the table and cut off about an inch and a half of the pointed end and ate that, and boxed up the rest for my kids. I was TOTally satisfied with- ohhhhh-- approximately 2 oz of carrot cake. I actually FELT like I ate the whole thing because my system is SO not used to that anymore! (I knew I was full when, on my way to the bathroom, I saw a poster with a picture of a huge burger and a shake and it said "purchase any burger and get a shake for $3.00," and I almost yakked right there!! Oh, the thought of eating that burger and shake was horrible!! I'm sure it came with fries or something too. People really eat that much??? Oh ya--I used to!) Well, the good new is- I logged it ALL on MFP (dooter69-go witness for yourself;) AND I still had 400 calories (half of my intake) left for dinner and an evening snack! (always cottage cheese and fruit). So...It just goes to show you- that you CAN have your cake and eat it too!! (Just don't eat the whole thing, and be sure to keep track of it, and don't do it to often, and...and...and.....) Good day.....goooooood day....
  9. I tell you what--when the numbers on the scale start plummeting-- food looks really stupid. You wonder, "what the heck was I thinking???"
  10. Hmm. No pain, no fever. The cold thing is pretty normal. Most of us get that. Still sounds like a stricture could be a possibility. Keep us posted and take care.
  11. I sent you a friend request also. If you want to look up someone by name, you have to click the "community" tab up top, then "find members" then type in the name someone gave you (like-dooter69) in the "username or email" box. Then click search and viola!!

It's the one thing I'm a little afraid to try. I can tolerate any food i've eaten so far. When I eat dark berries, however, the seeds give me some minor irritation, but not bad. So...I'm a little hesitant about the little hulls in the popcorn. Also, I think I haven't bothered with it, because I'm so picky about every bite that goes in my mouth now. 800 calories isn't much to work with, so I make sure every bite is nutritionally sound. The popcorn would be too high in carbs and no protein, etc... Just sayin'...
  13. You need to go insist upon another leak test. The only time i've heard of such violent reactions on this board, is when there has been a leak or stricture involved. Not saying thats it's for sure, of course, but it really screams "problem." Have you consistently had a fever or pain in your left shoulder? The stricture also causes a lot of throwing up of even water. DEMAND tests. That's all I can say.
  14. You HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO Take in ALL of your shakes every day, or this will happen again. Keep yourself as full of the allotted protein shakes, your one meal, and all the clear liquids you can fit into yourself! Chicken broth, jello, sugar free drinks....suck on some sugar free hard candies if that will help you. Those were my big help during the pre op diet. If you can't take this protein you're on, then find one you can drink because you NEED it for success!! If your doc put you on this one specifically, then see if there is another one they can give you. I'm sure they will work with you.
  15. I have a sleeve of steel!! I have not encountered ANYTHING I cannot eat. That means I have to be VERY careful, lest I go crazy. I also have to be careful to keep my meals to no more than 1/2 cup total, even though my sleeve size (bougie used) is a 34, I can hold 8 oz at once. This is very opposite of what some on this forum will tell you. I was hoping for a little more difficulty eating!
  16. OFF TOPIC, but Nate-- I "LMAO" every time i see your avatar!! When we watch Mythbusters, I think of it, and vice versa! LOL
  17. My breaking point??? Ok....you asked....... I couldn't reach my butt to wipe it!!!! That's it. Game over. Gotta do something drastic. Enough is enough. Couldn't be happier. I have not thrown up once since the hospital.
  18. Momentary, light affliction. Totally worth it. It gets better every day!
  19. Do you have an appendix? That is located on the lower right, but the pain from it (oddly enough) is usually to the left....
  20. Hmmm....8 weeks.....ok I'm at 277, and I'd like to get to 255 and fit into my wedding dress. (22 lbs. Lofty goal, I know.....but I might do it!)
  21. Well, I lost 9 of the 10.9 I wanted to lose by today, and I DID achieve the 5 day/week workout schedule, so all in all I think this was a success! Sure, i missed the mark a little, but I really did all I humanly could to get there. Good job everyone. Brandymarie, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. Praying for your comfort.
