  1. if youre on liquids youre not going to have a bm because you have nothing in you, just liquids. the 1st 10 days are the hardest, try hot tea, heating pads, pain relievers soup broth( i loved campbells chicken noodle soup mushed up into a liquid ) and lots of walking and resting. if not better soon , call your drs office.
  2. i get that same pain in my side when ive eaten too much, sort of like a mild side ache. maybe youre getting it because youre eating too much all day and thats why you're getting it off and on.
  3. there's a reason people are encouraged to get a 2nd opinion , or even a 3rd opinion when it comes to surgery. just because somebody has the letters M.D. after their name doesnt make them right. M.D. stands for "medical doctor", not "my decision." get another doctor !!
  4. i was banded dec 13th, 2011 and as of this morning im down exactly 20 lbs ! woo hoo ! i know there are others who have lost more in a shorter amount of time but i dont care ! im happy , down from 225 to 205, had my 3rd fill mon feb 27th and think i hit the green zone. i dont know, i'll find out if my appetite increases in a week or so.. as far as exercise i have only done long walks 2-3 times a week up until the last several weeks. i found that i love water aerobics or aqua bootcamp at our local ymca so ive been doing that 3 times a week. down 3 lbs this week! woo hoo !
  5. we all make poor choices sometimes, so dont beat yourself up over them. i have my sugar cravings too ! i i dont understand how you can get food down when you're full, when i do that it comes right back up ! since you dont seem to have that problem might i suggest taking baby steps and finding healthier choices for your snacks instead of stopping them all together ?? someone suggested protein 1st as it fills you up and takes away some of he cravings for junk. try unsweeted fruit bars , apple slices with pb, raw unsalted nuts with raisins, 1/2 a protein bar (choc and pb !) , frozen sf pudding taste like ice cream !, or for salty cravings try plains tortilla chips with homemade salsa (tomato, green onion, and cilantro), or even fruit salsa. thers lots of healthy choices out there, just start looking to see what you like. you can do this !!! good luck , dont go backwards, go forwards !!
  6. im right there with you. i had my 3rd fill monday feb 27th, so far im feeling comfortably restricted. so far today i had a half a protein shake at 8am, a nutri grain bar at 10:30 and just finished a lunch of 2 turkey meatballs, 1/2 cup broccoli and 1 small slice of fresh pineapple and im comfortably full !!! if this is the green zone, i'll take it ! ive already lost 3 lbs since monday 1 Woo hoo !! good luck to you !!
  7. also i forgot about turkey jerky if you can find it. try a sportmans store, its less salty than reg jerky but still high in protein. kinda addicting so i rarely get it
  8. i like sweet and/ or crunchy, so peanut butter is my lifesaver, but i also like unsalted nuts mixed with raisins, chocolate sugar free pudding when frozen taste like ice cream, a half of a special k bar. i rarely crave salty foods but when i do i like lo fat salsa chips made with home made salsa {chopped tomatos, green onion, and cilantro) or a new product i just found at costco-"sensible portions garden veggies chips"about 110-130 calories for a bag of 38 veggie chips. delicious !
  9. depending on if you can eat them, a few brazil nuts a day are supposed to supply a healthy dose of selenium (spelling ?) a nutrient that is supposed to be good for hair and skin. also salmon , broccoli, and tuna , i think.. i would talk with a nutritionish if it doesnt get better. good luck.
  10. good for you for making a smart decision to get healthy !!! if you are making an informed decision on lap band, i say go for it , even if some might think 17 is too young. if you've tried everything with no sucess, then lap band might just be the way to go . life is too short to live overweight because then you're just existing , not living ! im in my fifties , never had a weight prob until my 30's, and even though ive only been banded since mid dec, my only regret is i did'nt do it sooner ! its been a breeze, down 17 lbs and looking and feeling much better . so i say go for it ! good luck to you !
  11. i dont drink coffee but love hot chai tea from my local coffe shop every morning. if you dont know what chai is ,its a tea from india that is made up of tea, cinnamon, vanilla, ginger, sugar, cardamon and other sweet spices. they mix mine with a cup of skim milk, and i ask for only 3/4 of a scoop of chai mix. for those that want a hot sweet alternitive to high calorie coffee drinks, you might want to try it. its delicious !( you can also get an iced chai but i dont care for it)
  12. im also 5'3, and my goal is 140 lb too, or if its meant to be , 125 lbs. i was just banded mid december, im down to 208 from 225. feeling pretty dang good even though its a slow weight loss, it still a healthy weight loss so ill take what i can get ! being banded has been a breeze so far, surgery day was no exception. i arrived at the hosp at 5;45am, they put a iv in my arm , i chatted with the nurses and dr as they had me sign a few papers ,took my temp etc. they rolled me into the operating room at 8am and the next thing i know they woke me up at 9;30 and said youre done ! a little groggy and tired with really bad cottonmouth, but after ice chips and water, i left the hosp at 11am. the only pain was like a bad pulled muscle on my left side for 10 days. the whole thing was a breeze ! id do it again in a heartbeat ! good luck to you !
  13. if you cant sit with a heating pad , ( if you're at work or something) any drugstore will have a cordless heating pad that you heat up in the microwave . use an Ace bandage and wrap it around your shoulder where the pain is. constant heat and a hot drink should help. good luck !!
  14. way to go ! one of my first mushies was canned tuna with a little mayo , heaven ! hope things continue to go well for you, you've lost a lot of weight ! lookin' good !
  15. my husbands diabetic and does most of the cooking, so we eat pretty healthy most of the time. we love fish, especially salmon- rub the salmon with a little "smart balance brand mayo" or diabetic friendly mayo, a tiny bit of brown sugar and a little no salt seasoning. bake or broil or barbq. delicious !
  16. i cant wait to be 6 months out and "only" down 56 lbs..............would you like some cheese with that whine ?............. nuff said
  17. i found the boxed chicken or beef broth way too salty but i loved campbells chicken noodle or veg beef soup(strained) really hit the spot . hot decaf tea, , sugar free jello and sf pudding( freeze it, it taste like ice cream) applesauce, yogurt, boost protein drinks or slim fast, propel water or sugar free gatorade. remember to put a bottle of water, lifesavers and lip balm in the car for the ride home to take care of the horrible cottonmouth and dry lips too. i was just banded 11 weeks ago, down 17 lbs and feel great !! good luck to you !!
  18. good for you for taking another step to help yourself ! smart girl !! im only recently banded and have no issues with it, , but did have some therapy many years ago to deal with some other issues. best idea ever ! i always said" the human body is not perfect and can be damaged or broken at any time, and nobody would hesitate to go to the dr to get it fixed. well the human mind is not perfect either and you shouldnt hesitate about goin to the dr to get that part fixed too !" good for you for taking such good care of yourself ! you go girl !!!
  19. im also 53, 100 lbs overweight too . i was band mid december 2011, im down 17 lbs total and feel great, i only looked at lap band because 2 relatives had it last june and i was so impressed by their progress and stories that i finally went to a seminar in sept , was approved in nov and was banded dec 13th. i didnt even look at any other surgery because this was the least invasive, reverseable and had the quickest recovery time. honestly its been a breeze. i was in and out of the hosp in 5 hrs, rested at home for 1 week but was so bored by the 3rd day i went xmas shopping. the only pain i had felt like a bad pulled muscle for 10 days. the only times ive gotten stuck or slimed was because i ate too fast and wolfed my bite- it was my own damn fault !its not that big of a deal, justa a learning experiance.i dropped from a size 1x to a xl, down from 225 to , and love the compliments im getting and the way im looking and feeling. BEST. DECISION. EVER. GOOD LUCK, AND GO FOR IT !!!
  20. i thought "NSV" stood for non scale victory ? either way, they're a big ego boost, especially when the scale isnt moving. wait until your pants get baggy, some one says you look thinner, or you can fit into a smaller size. ! good luck to you !
  21. i love Boost drinks. not as high in protein as i would like but great to grab as i run out the door every am. choc and strawberry are good, vanilla is a little too rich for me. target, walmart etc near the instant breakfast or diabetic food section.
  22. well.......what if someone looked at the weight you are right now and got mad because thats where they would like to be ? that wouldnt be fair to you , would it ? instead of looking at your glass as half empty, look at it as half full ! you had the surgery, you've lost some weight ( i assume ) and hopefully youre feeling better about yourself because of your accomplishments. looking at someones else weight just makes you go backwards for a ridiculous reason, not move forward for a good reason. seems like a lot of wasted energy to me........
  23. mis 73, i hope you dont think that im trying to "one up" you with a funny story, but i had a funny nsv too recently. Im 53 yrs old, ive been banded 8 weeks ( Dec 13th), down from 225 to 208. im 5'3 and have always carried my weight fairly well, a co worker said "theres no way you're 225 !" but i was...... anyway .... i dress nicely and think i look good for being at 208 lbs. and have been getting lots of compliments. recently my hubby and his male co-worker came through my workplace and hubby introduced us. after they left the co-worker said to my husband " i hope you dont take this the wrong way, but when you told me in december that your wife was having lap band surgery, i pictured a bowling ball on legs ! ! she looks great !!" i got a huge laugh out of that one , and im still laughing. God bless that guy !!!
  24. great nsv's ! happy for you !
  25. i told my family because i knew they would be very supportive, and they were! i mentioned it to my supervisor as i would be taking a week off. ALL my co workers were also very supportive , a few asked questions about the band, (normal curiousity ) and ive had nothing but support and compliments from them. Ive only been banded since mid december, down 17 lbs and feeling good( and looking better) about MY decision to get MY body healthy and strong. im guessing that if i ever do get a negative comment it will be because that person has'nt done their homework and assumes im taking the "easy way out." Well, i DID do my homework and im happy with my choice. good luck to you and keep your head held high, you are making a healthier choice for yourself !
