  1. I used a pill crusher too. but I also called my primary doc to get a liquid form of one of my meds. I take liquid vitamins and calcium citrate/magnesium too.
  2. my doc has me lay over a pillow, then I put my head up (like a a sit up). it must flex the spot where the port is - easy peasy!! didn't hurt done in nothing flat. he does not miss the spot, no pain.
  3. Welcome! I did a lot of doctor office running but it was worth it. try to be patient with all the "stuff" that seems silly, it's all for the end result. you will read lots of informative posts here. keep positive and ask, ask, ask questions. the more you know the more successful you will be!
  4. you are a very trusting, honest person to share so much! best of luck, go for it. I have been depressed off ad on for many years. since surgery I have started to eliminate my meds. (with docs blessing!). I feel pretty good. I also have SAD so I use a full spectrum light to keep level.
  5. I still occasionally have a whey Protein shake. I use Jay Robb chocolate(tastes so good), with 8 oz. milk 200 calories, 0 carbs, & 32 grams of protein. sometimes I add some plain greek yogurt and fruit(raspberries). even more protein and tastes so good, it is the consistency of a heavy milk shake. I cut the amt. of milk. this is a great Breakfast on the days I am trying to cut fat and/or carbs. I never snack in between meals.
  6. call the doc. I also had hernia repair - no problems at all now, thank God! you have cut caffeine out haven't you?
  7. I agree try something without milk, you might not be able to handle that right now this too shall pass!
  8. I am 2 months post op so no I don't eat all the stuff I used to. part of the reason I don't is that is brings back old behavior - bad behavior for me. I used to graze quite a bit all day, I never realized how much I was eating! I know "are U kidding". I do not eat anything in between meals now. I drink lots and lots of Water. I've changed over to tea( caffeine free or low caffeine). I put Protein first always. keep track of the daily total. I am trying to think differently now. Eat to live instead of live to eat. Instead of rewarding with a food item, I try clothes or movie, a book anything else. i don't want to think like I used to. For me I have to keep reminding myself, "it's only food, it's not that important".
  9. Way too high Sugar alcohol amount is 27 grams ; Carbs 32 grams(full day= less than 68 grams). You do sound very busy but try to find a better brand. Sorry if this sounds real bossy. We never read all the ingredients before, we have to now! How about a hard boiled egg, piece of chicken(3- 4oz.), greek yogurt with fresh fruit. Think protein, keep carbs low. Eat complex carbs.
  10. Can you let someone know how disrespectfully she treated you? She will be an important part of your recovery, I really like mine, she's extremely supportive. she tells me the truth but in a better manner! Don't let someone treat you that way. don't act the same way to her, we are better than that!
  11. I had acid reflux for many years. when I had my band surgery they repaired a hiatal hernia that was the cause. I have no problems now - none. stopped taking all meds to lessen the problem. many of us have a hiatal hernia.
  12. I did alright on Christmas Eve but ate some cookies on Christmas Day. It seemed to restart the sugar addiction! Lot's of cravings, for anything and everything. Over this weekend I only drank protein drinks and yogurt. I drank lots of water. Yesterday I ate a very light breakfast and early light dinner. I feel back on track again. I do not want to mess up all the good work I have done. I was terrified to weigh myself at the club this am but it was good! Whew, hopefully a lesson learned for me. Get back on the wagon, keep posting, don't give up. We have to live each day - one at a time. I want to add, I have never done so well before - never. I have tried many many times to lose weight and was never this successful. My brain seems to be in the right place now. I thank the Lord Jesus, my band and this forum. I really appreciate the feedback!
  13. So funny when people who are not 100 lbs overweight tell us what we should do. I have only told a few people. We don't need to open our whole life to the world! We all know how much work it takes to make this work, it's not a miracle. It has been the best decision I have ever made for myself. I was borderline diabetic, on meds. for depression, cholesterol, had pain in my knees... the list goes on. I feel 100% better and am getting rid of these problems. I ( & I know a lot of you) want to be healthy. I want to ride a bike and swim (where people see me). I don't want to feel self conscious all the time about how I look. Go for it, life is so much better! We know what a big decision this is, we are overweight - not stupid!!!!!
  14. Praying for the Lord to send comfort and strength. I cannot imagine your pain.
  15. both stories are so funny!!! thanks for sharing.
  16. I think this is a great idea. chewing, chewing, chewing was the hardest thing for me to get. I would start out doing it, then forget and gobble! I tried several flavors of whey protein powder. some I really did not like! I had a hard time not drinking with the meal ( I'm good now!). I think that could help you a lot. remembering protein 1st will be easier if you start now too! Good luck and have fun !!
  17. Congratulations! keep up the great work!
  18. the papaya enzyme is a chewable item. we can all have them without trouble. they would work the same as Gasx.
  19. I use calorie king, com for calorie, carb. fat & sodium info. black beans have 20 grams of carbs per 1/2 cup. meat will give you your best protein numbers without carbs.
  20. the trick is try small amts of anything new. you will be on liquids for 2- 3 weeks after surgery so don't worry now. I remember how good everything I ate tasted! it was such a small amt. but sooo good. I stay away from bread & pasta, too many carbs. popcorn's not good either. Luckily we are all different...you will see what works for you! I don't enjoy beef much, it is sad I haven't tried steak but I know I'll have to chew forever!
  21. my doc gave me a list of the vits. they want me to take with dosage. try to use the best products possible, stay away from the chewable that have lots of sugar and low vitamin doses. I went to Whole foods and bought a liquid vit. and calcium/magnesium. it is really important that you get your vitamins. we eat such a small amount of food that we have to have the best we can afford.
  22. I would start by telling you to read many of the entries here. you will get so much info!
  23. Good for you! those comments really make a big difference don't they.
  24. your doctor will tell you what they expect you to do to get ready. I was told to lose 5% of my weight, that is to shrink the liver. any weight you can lose before will really help. have you talked to a doc yet? be sure to check many of the forum topics. you will learn a lot about the whole process. welcome to lapband land.
