Do you drink anything while you eat?
My surgeon said the same thing. No fluids half hour before a meal and a half hour after. I was told it washes away the nutrients you get from food. I don't have a big problem with it. I have eaten meals without having something to drink before. Sometimes I miss it.

Ready for mushies?!?
I am on mushies and have been for almost 5 weeks. My diets go in stages. I went from clear liquids to full liquids and now on mushies, next stage will be solid food which will be my permanent diet. I was really excited about eating mushies but when I got there fear set in. Just make sure you chew everything really well until it gets to a liquid consistency. Thats what my surgeon said anyways. I started with potatoes. That didn't go well. It just felt too heavy for me. It's ok now. There are a lot of good mushy meal ideas in the food and nutrition section of this site. It helped a lot. I had to wait 4 weeks to have ground meat other than that the only meat I could have was fish. I love fish, but it gets old after awhile. Good luck!!

Are the requirements the same for self-pay?
If you are self pay, find out what the surgeons requirements are. They are all different. He may still want you to do the 6 month diet.

Quick opinions please...
Thats what I would do. He is old enough to attend a birthday party without mom. Unfortunately he will soon be at the age where it's more fun not having mom or dad there. I have teenagers so I am oh so familiar with that scenario. They are starting to like hanging out with mom again =)

Beer With The Band
My surgeon did tell me that after being banded one or two drinks would make you the life of the party =)

Quick opinions please...
Can you drop him off and then pick him up to take him to the sleepover? I know it's a pain but maybe it would be good for your situation. Or do you have a family member that would be willing to pick him up and take him to the sleepover?

What do you count? Calories/protein/carbs?
I use My Fitness Pal also. I am Lisalisa_67. It is a great tool to use for tracking food and exercise. I like this app a lot. You can download a free app on your smartphone as well.

What do you count? Calories/protein/carbs?
Wow, really??!!! I hate people who are so judgemental. I had a post and felt someone was being judgemental to me. I kinda freaked, I have to learn to ignore that. Your journey is your journey. You know what works for you and obviously it has!!!!

What do you count? Calories/protein/carbs?
Your welcome. Good luck on your surgery. Please keep us posted. It's good to ask questions prior. That is something I never did. Lol on reading those posts. I know I kinda freaked. I just happen to let people get to me and I shouldn't. Lesson learned!!

What do you count? Calories/protein/carbs?
My dietiican did the same thing. She told me not to worry about my calorie intake. She wanted me just to concentrate on getting my protein allowance in. I had previously put a post asking the same questions and I got a lot of positive and some negative feedback. She never touched on the carbs or the fat grams. But she did also said to start with protein, then veggies and if I had room then carbs. I just try to watch my calories and my protein for now.

UPDATED I need to complain to people who will understand
Wow I read it all too. I am newly banded since the end of August, but I have worked in healthcare for several years. I have a feeling the reason why she was so defensive because she was caught making and error. Alot of people are like that for some reason. I have found that patients appreciate it more if you admit your mistakes and take steps to correct them. It goes a lot better. Do you think you can change providers? Maybe what I would do is contact the office manager and talk to her/him and explain your situation. And from your profile pic, you are just beautiful. I wouldn't worry about the extra skin. The reason we got the band was to be healthy. Beauty is only skin deep remember that!!

Confused....Need advice?
Thank you for your encouragement and your advice. This is all kinda confusing and I know everyone different. I ask the drs and dieticians questions and their answers at times are vague. But I think you are right about the muscle vs weight, because I seem to had my loss when I took my week off.

Confused....Need advice?
Wow you have great weight loss for how long you have been banded. Thank you for responding. I just didn't know what the typical calories, carb and fat gram intake a day. I was just trying to get suggestions to see where I'm at and if I have my fat and carb gram allowance set right in my fitness pal. I have been working out 3-4 days a week. I wasn't sure if I wasn't working out enough or not. My user name in my fitness pal is Lisalisa_67 if you want to add me. Thank you again for your advice it was very helpful =)

Confused....Need advice?
Thank you and I appreciate your advice and honesty. I know this is not something that is going to happen overnight. I did ask these questions but was told not to worry about it right now. Which I wasn't a big fan of. I wasn't sure how often I should exercise. I've heard news reports to exercise a minimum of 3 times a week and lately I heard women over 40 should exercise 5 times a week. So as you can see, this is where it gets a little confusing. I have Zumba for my Wii but I haven't really gotten too much into it. I tried it when I first started exercising and found I wasn't coordinated enough lol. Now that I've loosened up a little I may try again. I understand what you mean taking others to heart. I have the tendency of letting others get under my skin easily, which makes me an easy target. I will take your advice whole heartedly when dealing with others in the future. I think I will just focus on the positive advice/comments and ignore the negative. Thank you and have a great day!!!

Confused....Need advice?
Thank you NeeNee for answering my question. About how many days a week do you work out and for how long? You have been the only one who has answered my questions. Thank you for being so supportive. Maybe the next time I have a question, I will just direct message you instead entering it as a topic. You seem to be very knowledgeable. I really really appreciate your time. Lisa

Laxative or Not?
If I were you, I would definitely contact your doctor. I went through the same thing. The end result was, I ended up in the ER which was very embarrassing. I was so plugged up it was ridiculous!!!! I was given miralax and after 2 enemas I was finally relieved. I did try a suppository and milk of magnesia at home prior to going to the ER. Everyone is different. Make sure you drink all your required fluids and take a fiber supplement. I use benefiber and mix it with some juice. If you are using a narcotic, that may be binding you up also.

Confused....Need advice?
Thank you so much. This was the type advice I was looking for. I just wasn't sure what I was doing wrong and just needed a little guidance. I'm just not sure how many fat grams I should be sticking around or carbs. I use my fitness pal and I try to get my protein in, but it seems I'm always going over the alotted fat grams to get my protein in. I'm still on mushies so I don't have a lot of options. Thank you for your time and your positive feedback. So much appreciated!!!!

Confused....Need advice?
I didn't forget to ask, I was told not to worry about it, just to worry about getting my proteins in. As for exercise I was released to do as I please at my first follow up appointment or else I wouldn't have worked out. I haven't been in pain and I don't lift over 15lbs. I'm not one of those people who take it upon myself to self medicate. I came on this site to ask for advice and not to be belittled!!

Confused....Need advice?
So I am 6 weeks post band. For the last 2-3 weeks I haven't had any weight loss. I've been keeping my calories under 1000 and was exercising about 6 days a week. So this week I hadn't exercised at all, I was sick for half the week with a sinus infection and mother nature paid her monthly visit. So I jumped on the scale this morning and dropped a little over 2 lbs. What I'm wondering is was I working out too many days a week? What is the recommended days of week? Also how many calories should I be eating a day and what is the limit on carbs and fat grams per day? I was told at my last dietician appointment not to worry about calories but just to concentrate on protein. Which I have been, but I also want to make sure I'm not ignoring fat and carb grams in the process. Any advice would help please and thank you!!!!

Pureed vs mushie
You can have pureed or strained soups also. I ate a lot of soup during that stage. Sugar free fudgesicles were my best friend too =)

Feeling generally crappy banded on Monday
When I had my surgery, my surgeon made me stay one night in the hospital. So when I was released I went to the store that evening. I was also tired for the first week. I went to a concert on day 5. I really didn't want to go, but I had the tickets before I started my journey and paid over 50 per ticket and wasn't not going to go. In fact I ran into my surgeon at the casino where the concert was and he had told my husband he was happy to see I was out and about but did say I looked very tired. It will pass and you will have more energy. But everyone is right, don't compare yourself to everyone else, your body will tell you when you are ready. I know its hard not to, and I do the same, but just remember you are one of a kind and there is no one who is just like you. Your recuperation will not be the same as someone else either. The best of luck to you and keep your chin up!!!

I hate my metabolisim this sucks....
I've been working out every day. So the one thing I did do is quit weighing myself everyday. I don't blame you for not wanting to do the see saw dieting. My surgeons nurse told me a lot of people get frustrated with the lapband. I'm trying not to be one of those people. I just want things to start moving again. I would be happy with a pound a week right now =)

stuff to take to the hospital???
If you have sleep apnea, don't forget your cpap machine. Also if it is an overnight stay, bring something to do. I brought my laptop. Most hospitals have wifi.
