A few questions
I went to my seminar in May of 09 six months to your primary, six months of a nutritionist and then after that its submitted to your insurance after approval it is usually schedule the next month so from May til December 14 09 was my surgery. My preops included stress test, sleep study, a ton of labs, chest xray, upper GI yes it is a long wait but unless your paying cash pretty much all insurances make you wait six months.

Gas problems
Im a year post op and gax ex is on my grocery list. Please do not buy ice cream you will sabatoge yourself by doing that you should be drinking your protein shakes before anything. Then the rest. If you dont get in the protein your hair will fall out. Gas unfortunately with most of us never goes away after banding its part of it. If your doctor didnt tell you that then I am.

2 years post band trouble
When you have gastritis anything you put in your stomach will irritate it. You have to let the stomach rest for a few days and drink only clear liquids. Its not fun I have it I dont throw up from it but when it acts up I let my stomach rest and it all goes fine. Are you drinking caffiene if you are then stop. Cinnamon and other spices will irritate it. I cant drink coffee anymore or eat certain spices. You need your band emptied and the stomach time to rest. Gastritis is an inflammation of the inside of the stomach caused by something you are eating. You have to let the stomach rest. Empty your bands and go from there start over but it will subside eventually

I feel like I'm losing a friend...
Each and everyone of us got the way we were/are because we found comfort in food. Your not losing a friend you are losing and enemy that made your life miserable. Relearning good eating habits is a challange but I can honeslty say that today a year later I would any day take a sweet orange over a 500 calorie piece of cake. We dont realize how good other healthy food taste until you see that it wasnt so bad after all. I love my shakes with blueberries in them. I replaced my sweets with sugar free hard candy. Its a game with our mind you see because its so nice to get that high from food then crash within 20 minutes of eating it. I dont have that up and down feeling anymore, I sleep well and I dont regret giving up that friend that put me through years of disgusting hell.

I HATE MY SCALE!!!
I got a 10 dollar one at cvs and it has been the best. It is always the same weight as at the Dr.s office so I know its right. I wouldnt spend a lot of money on a scale. Its just a scale.

stomach gurgling and diarrhea
I dont know why you would be having diarrhea but stomach noises are going to be there probably forever. Its just part of it.

thinking removal....sound familiar?
Well its been a year for me and I can say working in surgery I have seen many come through there with a removal because of the same thing. I dont throw up but have bouts of bad gas. I dont want mine out but I think if I had the problems you are having I would. Maybe your doctor can remove the band and do the sleeve at the same time if you dont have and necrosis in the stomach. Living without it would be better than having anxiety about eating. Be well and do whats right for you. Im not always happy with mine but until I have issues like that Im fine. If I was vomiting I would have it removed in a heart beat. Good luck.

I HATE MY SCALE!!!
I was happy too when I cleaned out my closet and all the size 26 to 20 went by by but I had a lot of nice plus size clothes that went to good will. I am now in a 16 and yes I was happy the day I was 199 I weighed myself like 10 times because I wanted to make sure that was right. But thank God I could give them darn fat clothes to someone else to wear. Im not buying much more until I lose another 30lbs.

2nd Band and failing again...
You havent failed your doctor failed you. First of all I dont think anyone should have a band that is more than 9 to 10cc's if you needed more than that then you should have opted for a different surgery. People dont realize that a bigger band is not wise if you only need to lose 100lbs and anyone getting the band should only have to lose between 75 to 100 lbs. People dont realize that and they choose the band when they are 300lbs plus overweight and should have had the sleeve or the bypass. Originally the band was only to make those who were 100lbs overweight and doctors agreed to give it to those who were far more obese because they wouldnt make money. You are not the failure here your doctor failed you. I wouldnt consider another surgery but if you have this band out and can have the sleeve done that is what I would do. Doctors who are inexperienced and just want money dont care about their patients. Its hard to find another surgeon once you have been operated on by one but I surely would find someone who would guide me in the right direction.

Banded 11/18/2010
Well I had my first one on the 30th a year after surgery yep a whole year. The needle wasnt the issue with me but I could feel the band tightening around my stomach oddly enough. That wasnt pleasant. Its over in minutes he put four in and took two out. They make you swallow water after the fill and when you can swallow it with no problem then that is your fill point. Do not and I repeat do not leave that office until you know that you can swallow. And it also helps if you dont eat a big meal about 12 hours before a fill and I didnt eat the morning of. I didnt know what to expect so I was just cautious.

I HATE MY SCALE!!!
Do you have a digital scale? I have one and it doesnt matter where I put it I get the same weight. However I too am obsessed with weighing myself every single day morning and night if Im the same weight at night as in the morning I know I will be less the next day. If you dont have a digital scale then get one it shouldnt be varying that much no matter where you put it.

At a Crossroad and freaking out!
Im a year post op and happy with my decision. Some times its agony when you are sensitive to foods but you learn to live without them. I dont miss bread I eat chicken salad on pretzel flips, I dont miss pasta or rice even though all my meals were pasta mainly. If you ever look at a gym rat are they eating loads of bread and junk NOOOOOOOOOOO! So neither do we. Its all trial and error. You can be scared, unhappy, wanting it out because in fact the ones wanting it out never learned how to deal with it. Its all a process and you can either be ready for the process or not. If you go through all the surgery and fills to hate it then why get it done in the first place. Yes there are foods you will not ever be able to tolerate but there are so many foods that taste just as good. You have to remember its all relearning our bad eating habits that got us where we were to begin with. A word to the wise if you want to live a long healthy life then do it. If food is more important then dont. Eat to live not live to eat and nothing taste as good going in your mouth as being thin.

UGH....need to find my groove...holidays are over
Yes Chocolate is poison. I ate then had a fill on the 30th however I am a scale horder every single day and I gained but now I have lost 6lbs in three days after my fill. I have been cleaning like a mad woman today and havent thought about eating just a protein shake this morning with some blueberries in it. I find that berries keep me way full for a long time. Well happy New Year people and onward we struggle day to day. I also found out that chocolate tears up my stomach so bad it really wasnt worth eating. My guts are so sensitive since surgery sometimes when I eat things that kill me I wonder why I bothered.

Best Position!
If its the side where your port is it may hurt for 3 to six months. Mine hurt for a long time because it is sewn in the muscle. If it hurts to sleep on your side then try the other side or your back.

Whats your top 3
1. Eat to live not live to eat 2. Try as many different healthy foods you can to be successful the same old thing everyday is a sure set up for failure 3. Know that we all got obese because of bad habits and food choices and we didnt go through all this to be fat ever again.

Day 1 of 14
The old saying from a dear friend of mine nothing taste as good as being thin was something that has stuck in my mind over the last year and you know what she is right. I still have about 40lbs left to get to my goal weight but this journey is not easy, its not always fun, its hard as hell some days in the beginning to stomach eating soft scrambled eggs but the end result is going to be awesome. You will and can do it as long as in your mind you always remember its not going to always be a cinch to lose weight. It will be a slow process in the beginning your weight will drop off fast hopefully but everyone is different but then it will slow down to a snails crawl. Slow but steady wins the race. Chin up and know we are all here for the same reason.

My first stuck episode
Well whenever I get stuck the doctor told me to drink warm fluids behind it to make it pass because you really dont want to vomit. Its not pleasant but the fluids do help get it down. Whatever gets stuck for me I dont eat anymore. Dont ever try Frosted mini wheats they are too bulky and hurt like hell going down lol

Banded 12/30, and am hungry already
I dont know why people get the misconception that they wont be hungry because they got banded. You still have a very active bottom part of the stomach that is working and not being filled. You will see a difference when you can eat real food. Yeah it sucks royally those weeks after surgery when your hungry and want to eat everything in sight but it will get better I promise. Also when you need a fill you will find yourself more hungry also. The band is not going to stop your bodies ability to be hungry.

Swollen?itchy?hurt? Annoyed
My port site hurt for about three months after surgery that is normal to have pain in that site for that long because its in the muscle. Its healing. I couldnt lay on my side for a month or so. If its red and hot it could be infected if not then its part of the healing process

Trying to figure out what exactly is going on
I have been banded for a year and have always been hungry I cant say I was as drastic as eating a bagel but go to bed hungry just the same. I had my first fill after a year of 2cc's he put in 4 but that was too much. Im not quite as hungry anymore. I dont know how some can not be hungry because I always was. I lost 70lbs really fast but then was stuck for five months because I moved and had trouble finding a surgeon who would take me. The only thing I can say is that the band is a tool to let you know how to eat and thats about it. The rest is pretty much trial and error. I deal with constant gas since banding but its not painful just annoying more than anything. I dont regret getting it done and hating what we wanted is probably not something I would say. Im uncomfortable with it at times but I dont regret it because it gave me my life back. You just have to know your limits and what you really cant eat. I still after a year cannot do bread or cereal and have been miserable since my fill with gas but I wont change a thing. I asked my husband was it right for me to get a fill and he reassures me that it is. He also is so supportive when Im not having a good day. Maybe whats wrong is your support system and not the band its self. I think anyone with a band gets aggravated at times but having someone reassuring that it was worth not dying is my biggest help and gets me through the worst days. Chin up and hope you feel better soon.

My first plateau - and it came too early!
My best friend and I had surgery on the same day last December 09 I lost weight rapidly she had three fills before she even lost one pound then it started coming off. I just had my first fill one year post op but I was at a 5 month stand still. Couldnt do much because I moved and couldnt find a surgeon until recently who would do an adjustment. I have lost 5lbs in two days. Everyone is different. Everyone has different results dont get discouraged. I wasnt happy about not losing weight for five months but 70lbs was a huge weight loss to begin with with no fills. You have to go with the flow its all trial and error everyone is different just be patient it will happen.
