I Feel Like I can Eat Too Much - No Fill Yet
First of all why are you eating bread at three weeks post op??? Even if the doctor said you can eat regular food after three weeks does not mean eat a sub. You should be eating mainly protein and only 3 ounces at best. You have to control yourself because even after years and fills you can still eat as much as you want. The band does not restrict the amount of food you eat it only dims your hunger if you are lucky. Stop eating carbs I am more than sure your doctor gave you a list of foods you should and shouldnt eat and subs should be in the do not eat list until you are futher along. You are sabotoging your band before you even get started. If you are not afraid to eat bread now wait til you get a fill and you get stuck you wont eat it again for sure.

The first downer in my journey
First of all the raw diet does not sound healthy to me because even vegans eat protein. Who could live off of vegetables and fruit and a few nuts that is insane and yes the 90lb people should eat that crap. Regardless of having the surgery we love food because if we didnt we wouldnt be over weight and I say over weight because I hate that doctors write obese in your chart and think you will never see it. But anyhoo if I wanted to be a rabbit I would eat that crap however I choose to love having a variety in my diet. That diet would last about 1 day because who in their right mind would do that to themselves. Just forget what people say. Others that knew I was having the surgery would say its going to be so hard for you. Well guess what it was already hard for me you idiots and it cant get much worse. So do what your heart feels and do me a favor and email her back and tell her if God had wanted you to be a rabbit he would have given you a fluffy tail.

Shoulder Pain??? What causes that?
I had shoulder pain for a year and yes it bothered the hell out of me but its the nerve the same one that causes hunger. Once I got a fill it went away but I still get it if I eat too much sometimes

Is My Potential Surgeon Right
But do you tell your doctor you have an MBA? They talk down to people that let them. If your not happy with this surgeon then find another one. I would much prefer to know how much I need to pay out of pocket then not know at all. I would also call your insuance company because it could very well be an issue that you already had one bariatric surgery and it did not work they might not pay for a second. Life happens things happen but just because you get injured doesnt mean you have to gain back weight. I have issues with my knees and do not exercise but none the less I have not gained back any weight because I didnt go through this to regain my weight.

BEER ON THE BAND
Your choice of not getting the band is because you dont want to give up beer? Beer is wasted calories and you dont need it to live. However being over weight and drinking is putting you closer to your grave. I dont think that giving up beer is too much to ask for health

A Necessary Evil...
The band does not stop you from over eating or making bad choices. And sometimes in some people it does not ever stop hunger either. Sometimes you have to get 3 or 4 fills to reach the point of not being hungry but everyone is different. I would just say dont expect the band to work at 100% it does about 10% of the work you do 90% food only stays in your pouch less than a minute then it starts passing through so yes you can over eat with it and eat the wrong things with it also. You have to make the decison you will follow the DIET because it is a diet.

3 weeks post op and only lost 9 lbs!
At three weeks post op you should be eating probably soft foods and you have to remember just because you can eat too much does not mean to do it. Drink lots of fluid and measure your food. A fill will not stop the amount of food you can eat. Its not about restricting what you can eat its about making you not hungry and that may take a while so until then its up to you to do most of it.

4 days Post Op
Its called (lung machine) in inspiration spirometer
-
post op liquid amounts
Where are your protein shakes you should be still drinking them as well. You have to remember that just because you can eat that more doesnt mean you should. Measure your food all of it.

eat anything.
Well if you do the research it will surely tell you the band does 10% you do the rest. It doesnt always control everyones hunger no matter how much you get filled. Its a risk like anything else. I am sure there are plenty of banders out there that will tell you that the band did only little for them and they did the rest.

Is My Potential Surgeon Right
You can not redo a gastric by pass or undo it it is a permanent surgery. If you were unsuccesful with the bypass I would not consider the band as it is the same even harder. Surgeons only get paid about 1000 to 1500 per surgery its the hospitals that cost so much so he may be correct. He cant do a sleeve because most of your stomach was stapled and moved away no way to fix that. You can get the band but like I said its the same concept if you do not follow the diet you will not lose weight.
-
eat anything.
NJ Girl for you to think the band will do anything you were so misinformed. It will not stop you from over eating, it will not stop you from eating what you want. It may or may not stop your hunger. The band does about 10% of the work you do the other 90. You still have to watch your calorie intake no matter what. Even with any of the other bariatric surgeries its all about moderation and small amounts.

Does everyone really eat proteins first
Protein is supposed to be number one then others. If you dont want breakfast then have a high protein shake with little sugar like EAS carb control. Yes I eat protein first with every single meal then veggies and fruits. If I eat oatmeal in the moring I put one scoop of vanilla protein powder and an activia yogurt thats about 30 grams of protein right there. I do eat salads for lunch but with more meat then salad. I like the lloyds meats then I dont need dressing they are all barbeque and dinner I eat just meat once in a while a vegetable but there are lots of protein choices out there. You just have to get creative. Cottage cheese, beans, yogurt, cheese, meat, milk, sugarfree pudding, anything thats dairy is protein. Your weight loss will be faster with protein in the beginning

Carb Help....
Your carbs you should be eating is fruit and vegetables not bread, pasta or rice. It doesnt take but a couple hours on the weekend to prepare enough food for the week and freeze it. I hate those prepackaged meals they do not taste good at all. I would rather make my food on the weekend and put it in the freezer then add some fruit to my lunch and off I go. Why waste money on prepackaged foods when you can make food at home for less. Besides if in the beginning or a few months after you are still not giving up those carbs your weight loss will be at a snails pace. When you are carb free for a long time and eat them you realize how tired you really feel afterwards.

Horribly disappointed
All or mostly all insurances require six months of supervised visits I do not know of any that dont. However six months goes by fast. Just think how we were just celebrating the new year and its August already. Start now and the new year will be a new you

Carbonated Drinks
I dont drink soda and dont miss it at all. I find water more appealing now then before. I drink decaf coffee with regular sugar in it because I think that artificial sweeteners are a weight loss night mare. Ice cold water will do me fine any day.

How do you stay healthy?!?!
Slim fast bars are full of sugar and hardly any Protein you need a better Protein Bar if thats what you are going to eat for breakfast. Easy mac for lunch is not a great lunch and there is no protein in it its all carbs and pretty much fattening. Get rid of the bread and sandwiches and eat something more filling for lunch. Why only meat for dinner eat some good vegetables. Make a stir fry with some meat in it. You need to broaden your horizens in the food department for sure.

Why no homemade protein shakes?
Yes I work in oncology now. I worked in surgery in the OR as a nurse many times over. What difference does it make what I do now. I have well over 30 years in surgical experience I really dont care what you take with a grain of salt. You give your opinion I give my facts. I have seen it, worked in it, and have seen probably over 500 bariatric surgeries from the band to the bypass to the sleeve. No ones stomach or liver on that screen were of different size ever unless like I said they have liver issues such as cirrhosis. . I got out of sugery because I dont want to do it anymore just like many people change their medical backgrounds. I really could care less if you want my opinion or not. I will post what I want whenever I want.

Why no homemade protein shakes?
I really dont give a rats ass what any of you think. First of all I have worked in surgery with bariatric surgeons and have watched many surgeries. Every single persons liver and stomach were the same exact size. Yes there is fat there but its not the organ its self. Dr. Paul Wizman who is a bariatric surgeon performing well over 3,000 surgeries, Dr. George Webb, Dr. Deperi and the whole north florida surgeons group said that no matter how obese any of their patients have been their liver and stomach have been the same size. Most preop diets are to prepare you for the obvious after wards. There are many surgeons that dont require a preop diet. It surely is not to shrink the liver. Your organs dont shrink they may lose fatty tissue around them but they do not shrink. If your organs shrink you would not be able to live. Seems that I am not the only one opinionated. Since you all like to ball bust people for their opinions seems your not much better. I have a right to my opinion which comes from knowledge not google look ups. I post what I know for fact. I dont care if you dont like it or what ever it is a public forum and if you ask a question then expect an answer and it doesnt matter if you like it or not.

This is the weekend I'll tell hubby
I think you as a wife are not being honest one bit. You surgery is 20 days away and you havent told him as of yet. So if he gets pissed and doesnt want you to have it because you never told him then what are you going to do. You are going to go the day of surgery with an angry husband and I dont blame him if he is angry at you because you should have told him long before now. Its like sneaking around when your husband should be your best friend, your confidant. How can you go around feeling okay when all this time in a way you have been deceiving him. I dont know your husband but if he is upset with you you have no one to blame but yourself.

Cheat foods not bothering me?!
Its not the bypass cheat foods are not going to make you sick. You have to have some control in the matter. Why did you have surgery if your going to continue to eat cheat foods and especially a few days post op. Now should be the time you are getting yourself ready for this journey by sticking to your diet the doctor gave you. If you cant do it now how are you going to do it later. The band will not stop you from eating anything until maybe later when you have fills. It wont stop you from eating cereal, cookies, chocolate, doritos YOU have to stop you from eating that. Yes you are going to be hungry but you have to suffer through to get the most of the following weeks post op
-
Why no homemade protein shakes?
I didnt have any preop diet and your liver does not shrink that is a lie. Everyones liver is the same size unless you have a liver condition. Every surgery I have seen everyones liver and stomach are the same size no matter how fat they are. It is just the drs way of making you do liquids and be miserable for two weeks before surgery. Eat and enjoy yourself until the night before the night before surgery.

Inpatient vs. Outpatient?
They always have to be prepared for complications. I went in as a 23 hour out patient and ended up there three days with dry heaves. Basically it is an outpatient procedure but if you are high risk or they feel that there may be a need to keep you it has to be submitted or your insuance will not pay if he decides later on that you need to stay.

My Dr Was Fired!
Im sure he was let go for a darn good reason. Maybe you should not be upset but happy that he is no longer practicing he may have really made some bad mistakes and hurt some people so maybe your lucky he is gone.
