New here, with a few questions!
new to the boards hi morgan welcome to sleeveland we've been waiting for you mom has lost 80 lbs!!!! how great is that!!! having her support , the two of you working together.......can't get much better than that!!! Just like your mom, your health will substantially improve as you lose weight!!!! ie i know longer take BP meds, diabetes meds/insulin - and i don't wear a CPAP since i lost weight, my epilepsy meds/dosage has been cut in half!!!! thats a HUGE NSV that wasn't expected!!!! NSV = NonSleeveVictory i have heard many others referring to fertility issues - this is many times resolved while losing weight docs all say differently - but many docs strongly "advice" you not to have a baby for a couple years PO I "think" having to pay for surgery, "might" give you/others a stronger reason to be so/more dedicated since you are paying to have the surgery the Water rules are verrrrrrry important - ESSSENTIAL don't drink for about 15-30 minutes before you eat never, ever drink with your meals (people have been shot for less ) don't drink after you eat for 45-60 minutes drink at least 64 oz of water a day you are ahead of the game by loving to drink so much (we are talking about water right?) LOL lose skin???? the younger you are the better your chances are that your skin WILL tighten up abit eventually i was 59 one year PO - goal i was amazed that my tushy/rear end did tighten up considerably sure exercise will help to a point, but............. in the hospital my meds were crushed up but once i got home - i swallowed them with no prob many, many people say one of the primary reason for surgery.............. is to be able to enjoy, run, play with their children, grandchildren this will happen to you too!!!!! read the boards, absorb all the good info and ask your questions!!!! grab some books in the library ie WLS Surgery for Dummies (WLS = weight loss surgery) i see success in your future good luck take care kathy

How much did your surgery cost?
My $22,000.00 bill ended up being covered Phewww took awhile, hard work and patience - but it was paid for, thats all that counts/counted so sorry for you guys that will be paying loans et al for years to have had the surgery the cost we go through to be healthy and happy and beautiful but...............the sleeve is/was worth it!!!! hopefully more insurances will come to their senses and cover alllll WLS after all, they benefit too from us having WLS they don't/won't have to pay so much money out for the rest of your/mine/our medical problems since our health will improve drastically!!!! so..............whats their problem kathy

The need to chew...
Did anyone push it??? Bobbi ALWAYS follow your nutritionalist's rules!!!!! chew on that week of Clear Liquids, full liquids et al sounds good to me you are right - all docs/NUTS are different' "the one thing we all have in commen is that we're all different" your tummy is recuperating you just had MAJOR surgery glad you are feeling well but don't get ahead of the game and "try" to eat something you are not allowed to this goes for later to, down the road - never push anything pleassssssse get all your Water in - sip, sip, sip Protein shakes too walk too, sllllllowly don't overdue ANYTHING i can tell with your determination, enthusiam, you'll do great!!!! you'll be glad you realized you must follow all the rules for the rest of your healhier, happier, longer life good luck kathy

Idea's
WARNING WARNING WARNING post got out of hand and is kindof long welcome newbie i can tell you are a smart "cookie" after all you made the smart decision to do the sleeve and find this board, and of course find me too sounds like you don't have a NUT (nutritionist ) can your surgeon answer some questions? contact your local hospital ask them to help you find a support group they "should" be helpful - even though you didn't have surgery their at one week post op - your tummy (and you) are healing from MAJOR surgery, some people forget having your insides cut up is MAJOR take it easy, rest since you didn't say otherwise, sounds like you aren't having any major issues/problems sorry you are already hungry if you don't have anyone "official" giving you advice - here are a few tidbits at this early stage you should be ONLY drinking ie broth 3 Protein shakes a day if you can hold it down sugar free popsicles (yummy) drink slowly - sips, don't gulp sip, sip, stop and sip continually if you have someone "official" to tell you the ropes as suggestion/guesstimate drink Clear liquids for about 1-2 weeks full liquids the puree foods then soft foods then slowly introduce solids when you do eat, first eat Proteins (ie chicken) that will help make you feel full you should be having 60 oz of Protein this is hard at first, but it will happen you might not feel any restriction from your tummy while you are still on liquids once you start eating soft foods, solids - you will start to feel that restriction always measure your food (I was started on 1/4 cup) others are different keeping track of your food is great My Fitness Pal is a great place to go on the board to write down, keep track of ALL you eat and drink even a place for exercise - which you can slowly do(walking et al) eat very slllllllowly chew your food "excessively" (to pieces) put your silverware down between bites, wait then continue to eat eat on a "baby plate" that way you will trick yourself into thinking that you are eating a "whole" plateful of food!!!! water rules are most important do not drink for about 1/2 an hour before you eat never, never, ever drink with your meals - i know for many (me) this was hard at the beginning do NOT drink after you eat for 45-60 minutes drink all day - at least 64 oz of Water - more if possible you'll get lots more good suggestions - listen carefully there are some good books you could buy WLS for Dummies cooking for dummies there are threads on the board with other good book suggestions ok girlfriend - go get ' em i have faith in you and all you newbies that you can do this and you will be successful hope this helped thats all i can think of for now my brain is going on overload - don't want to explode good luck kathy

5 Months Post Op and I am so far off path.. I need help. I don't know where to start?
5 months post op - lost 84 pounds. off plan, off track, off everything Heather you took a big, brave step by coming back to the board and reaching out for help good for you it can/is hard dealing with emotional situations/stress i sympathize unfortunately life if full of problems/stress that we all have to deal with we must continue to follow eating correctly - don't let our emotions get the better of you/me et al thats how many of us (me) gained weight (stress/problems = eating? ) No more don't let hubby (or anyone else) get the best of you - don't give in to mean comments, vibes, expressions you used to exercise, get back to it you can eat lots of Cookies, pretzels, cupcakes without a problem??? Knock it off!!! theres an expression on the board - "just because you can, doesn't mean you should"!!!! wise words to live by in sleeveland you were doing great - lost 84 lbs thats terrific, take a bow you know what to do, and you CAN do it successfully!!!!! I would immediately go to your pantry .......... toss "your cookies" LOL - pretzels, all that junk right now!!!!! you don't need/want any temptation.. to get a good "jump start" i would do Protein shakes/clear liquids for a week or so you will lose some weight - and hopefully remember that great feeling of losing weight, and going for your goal of a healthier, happier, longer life you/me/we were never told this was easy - you know its not i know you can climb back on that wagon towards success follow the rules with protein first, watching your carbs, measuring et al, eating slowly, chewing thoroughly Water rules are sooooo very important stop drinking about 1/2 hour before you eat never drink during meals don't drink for 45-60 minutes after you eat drink at LEAST 64 oz of water a day got all that??? - there will be a test i'm sure you will pass with flying colors!!!! measuring, keeping track of everything you eat and drink (exercise too) helps ie My Fitness Pal continue to come to the boards for support "seeing" others here, discussing WLS is helpful I know you can do it!!!!! don't make me into a liar remember, you've lost 84 lbs so far!!!! woo hoo good luck kathy congrats

Drinking from a straw
Lindzee your NUT should tell you whats right for YOU I believe the main issue against the straw is the carbonation situation since i never drank with a straw, it never bothered me not being allowed to use a straw i know that there are people here that eventually do use a straw as time goes by if it doesn't bother them good luck keep up your good work kathy
-
stress related issues
:o Recycled giving you the benefit of the doubt, i'm sure you "meant" that as a joke, but........ rayanne I "think" anyone in a stressful situation could have problems with eating you are upset, emotions could be causing your problems (maybe) hope your son/and you improve sooner than later feel better good luck kathy

Maybe im weird
maybe you are not weird lol... or maybe we both are! nhaze101 and icoll i think you both are weird only kidding guys i have heard others on the board being "concerned, worried" surgeon didn't take out enough of tummy i doubt that happened to you or anyone but i do understand you being scared things will work out, and you'll realize you are "missing" 85% of your tummy when you are only drinking - you don't feel any restriction not having trouble drinking, - thats great!!!! many people do have problems holding liquids down many many many others (like me) never had an issue don't go looking for trouble by saying "hmmmm, why am i ok drinking lots"? be happy as far as not feeling restriction............. you will get that restricted feeling once you start eating solids continued luck to both of you kathy

5 months post
bosslady14 i doubt you are doing anything wrong u look like a smart cookie i bet you are following all the rules watching your calories, carbs eating slowly, measuring protein first not drinking about 1/2 hr before meal not drinking w/meals not drinking for up to 1 hr after you eat drinking at least 64 oz the only thing we have in common is that we're all different!!!!! people lose different amounts of weight in all types of time periods weird things can happen when "we" get discouraged (eating) Knock it Off!! you are doing great 52 lbs - down, down, and down, FLUSH keep up the good job "God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up About It" kathy congrats
-
Yet another stall post :-(
11 weeks out - down 32 lbs Lynn Oh my goodness so many questions, so little time!!!! "they" say losing an average of 10 lbs per month is good so..........32 lbs in 11 weeks IS great!!!! the one thing "we" have in common is that we're all different!!! that being said, i hear mmmmmany others say their boobs are deflating don't worry about what the other guy loses, concentrate on yourself, ONLY I've heard that "your" hormones definitely can get affected - thus a change in your cycle some people stop having a period all together - others have it longer - others, shorter stalls happen to many/most people - don't worry, they too will pass you will get over this and other hurdles you are doing fine, really good luck keep up the good work kathy congrats

Pre-Op Liver Diet
Pre-Op Liver Diet. Dana, never heard of a pre-op diet called "pre-op liver diet" but what is in a name??? of course the pre-op is to lose weight, and make the liver smaller so the surgery is easier for the docs to perform as with many things, you'll find............. "the one thing we all have in common, is that we're all different"!!!! my surgeon didn't require pre-op diet i've heard others have it for a few days or a week - or maybe like you, 2 weeks!!!! "glucerna" shakes 5x a day that is alot to drink!!!! but you can do it!!!!! i know you can I "think" many/most people are told to have clear liquids for X amount of days prior to surgery liquids will/should become your "friend " after surgery, you will be only on liquids for awhile per your surgeon your tummy will be healing shortly after, you are supposed to "down"/drink 64 oz of Water a day march is the best month for sleeve surgery good luck speedy recovery kathy
-
