The hunger pains could also be healing pains. You *cut your finger, it throbs, so does your stomach and it feels the same as hunger pains and also acid can contribute to it.
The wanting to grab the sandwich is head hunger, it's an emotional thing. If you start looking at it analytically, it sometimes helps you to deal with it.
    Best of luck to you.

This is not hunger. This is head hunger. Your body is not hungry, you only think it is and want it. It is all a mental thing that takes some time to get over. But you need to acknowledge it now as you not really being hungry or else you will start to confuse the two and eat when you don't need to.
It is tough but it can be overcome.

I learned recently, when your body is losing weight rapidly and goes into ketosis, your mouth actually makes acetone. Seems reasonable this would affect the way things taste. If you have that icky white film on your tongue, get a tongue brush or scraper. I also recommend Therabreath mouthwash. It helps cut the 'film' that seems to form on the teeth.

I've been eating what I want in moderation..and small amounts. How many of you live your life like this and how many are strictly on a life long diet where you refuse to eat anything but healthy? I'm not looking for anyone to slam me or whatever. I'm serious because I'm thinking of making some adjustments to my diet. I make mostly healthy choices but I do still have an occasional goodie that may not be so good for me but not all the time. I'm losing weight but slowly and if this is what is causing me to lose so slow,,I need to make some changes. I'd appreciate any helpful input.

Neese reacted to Wheetsin in Learn To Take A Compliment Already!
I don't think we can get over it, so to speak. I know that even after losing almost 200 lbs, I sure didn't. Lots & lots of reasons why a lot of us tend to have a hard time accepting compliments -- at least ones that deal with our physical appearance -- and especially physical appearance related to body. E.g. at my highest weight, if someone complimented my hair - fine. I didn't relish it, but I was ok with it. Someone complimented an outfit - totally uncomfortable. Someone complimented something odd (I once had someone tell me I had nice toes) - awkward, but not in an uncomfortable way, more in a "weirdo..." kind of way.
I shared once that people are noticing something is different about me, but maybe they can't quite place it. So I'm getting scrutinized a bit. And I'm really not comfortable with the attention. I hate people looking at me. I really do. I do everything I can to avoid any kind of spotlight.
That's my personality. It's part just who I am, and part what I learned after years & years of being MO. We are the sum of our experiences, so everything we've dealth with as O/MO folks has helped mould who we are.
I mean - if someone is complimenting me, it's probably a joke, or mean-spirited. At least that's what got in my head. Or maybe they felt sorry for me. Or wanted their good deed of the day. There's no way they could actually be sincere.
If people are complimenting your weightloss, it's really noticeable. Normally if people think maybe, or she seems a little... they don't say anything, because how awkward would it be if they were wrong? Most people only feel comfortable saying anything once it's pretty much undeniable. So in that sense, it's a good thing.
A smile, and a "Thanks, that's really sweet of you to say" or "Thanks, I've been trying hard so I'm glad you noticed" (sincere or not) is all it takes. Just practice it, and it will become pretty automatic.

So I've been thinking a lot about why I used to eat the way I did. I drove by Long John Silver's today and briefly felt a longing to eat there. Then I asked myself, "Why?" It was then I realized that fast food and any junk food was easy. I didn't have to worry about the Protein content. I didn't count how many calories the food contained. I would chug a 32oz soda and never once think about how much Fluid I still needed for the day. It was easier to give in than to work hard for what I really desired: a thin, healthy body. There are foods I do actually miss the taste of, but for the most part, I just miss not having to work so hard to lose weight. I must say I am very proud of myself for having the strength to keep on driving past the fast food restaurants. I've lost 49lbs and I will NOT look back and miss who I used to be.

Neese reacted to Lissa in I Skipped The 18's! :)
So, I finally broke down today and went shopping for some clothes. Specifically, I was looking for jeans, work pants, undies, and a couple of tops. I've floated through six different Goodwill stores, but hadn't found anything in an 18 I even wanted to try on, much less buy, even at discount prices. So, today I went to the Outlet Mall near my house.
I tried on several pairs of size 18 pants and jeans, but they all fit way too loose in the seat area, although they were comfortable at the waist. Finally, the saleslady suggested that I go down a size to 16s... and they fit. The waist is a hair tight, but they fit perfectly in the butt/thighs. That was the jeans! For work pants, she brought me a 16W and that fit perfectly as well!
So I totally skipped 18's!! Even better, I bought undies in a size 14. I bought 5 pairs because I know this size won't last long and the 14 is a perfect fit. I've always bought one size smaller than my pants in the brand I prefer (Cacique) and it was the right choice today as well!
So, from a 24/26 pre-op to a 16 today. I think I'll happy dance a little bit! Join in, please!!!

Our stomachs are sleeved, not our heads. This is why it's SO important to change your lifestyle along with the sleeve. We have to incorporate better food choices and exercise...and realize that this isn't a diet. It's a lifelong change.

I spoke to my doctor about in the future wanting to have more kids and they said that it would not be a problem at all. They suggest waiting 12-18 months post-op to conceive so that i give myself time to heal. Any pregnancy stories post-op? I would love to know that it is going to be safe...i am only 23yrs old and i am no way near done having lil ones. I do trust my doctor after all he is a TopDoc for bariatric surgery but i want to hear success stories to ease my anxiety about it.

Just throwing in my two cents worth. I haven't felt true hunger since the morning BEFORE surgery. I have not been hungry since I woke up. Right now, I'm using my son's internal clock to know it is time to eat. I figure I will have to set alarms when I go back to work. I just hope this feeling lasts.

Beach season is short, after that, put on some Spanx, and keep it moving! Hair loss: they make really good quality wigs these days, or consider hair extensions! Saggy butt: Victoria Secrets sells padded undies...check out a pair. Go shopping, and remember what it was like B.S. (before sleeve).

I have not been sleeved yet but I've been on enough diets to know that rule 1 is to recognize when you screwed up. You did that. You realize the consequences and won't make the same mistake again. What's done is done but the way you are handling it is a very positive sign for the future. Stop beating yourself up and learn from this, which is sounds like you already have.

It can also be your body ridding itself of surgery stuff - i.e. anesthesia. I was a haircolorist for 20+ years and it can really be a p.i.t.a. after surgery. I usually recommend mixing a coupe of table spoons of baking soda into your Shampoo to make a paste and let it sit you your hair for a bit once a week.
This is called a chelating treatment and helps scavenge the icky substances that our bodies are ridding themselves of.
