I just found out through my pre-op blood tests that I have it. It must be in my knees only, because I dont have any problems with my feet. I went to my surgeon's orientation last night and gout was on his list as being improved with WLS. I am guessing its because of diet changes.

I finished my options class on the 24th and saw the Kaiser Dr. Nothing was said about only losing 4 lbs. I was given the ok to see the surgeon.

I have had 3 removed over the years, I afraid for whats waiting for me once I lose the weight. I am pretty sure the only way to get rid of them is to have them removed.

It looks just like pieces of chicken fat in the video around the stomach, I wonder if the surgeon cuts those out too? It would be nice if they did..

Here is a video of the Sleeve operation. It almost looks like a chicken breast being cut in half. There is very little blood loss.

My Kaiser *** plan changed a liitle this year, before it was only a $20 co-pay for surgery. Now it is....Bariatric Surgery (Inpatient)10.00% coinsurance.. Does anyone have the same plan and know what this means? And what was your out -of pocket expense? Thanks.

I had a hysterectomy at 44 due to enlarged uterus and fibroids. I would suggest having it removed soon. You will have a lot -of swelling in our lower stomach, you will gain some weight back due to the swelling and being inactive. It will take a good 6 to 8 weeks before you fell like you can even start exercising. It took me a full 6- 8 months to fully recover and get my stamina back I would do it all over again, it wonderful to not be bleeding to death from clots (sorry guys) and pain free . You can always have the tummy tuck later on.. just my 2 cents good luck!

I have a dear friend who has had diabetes for 30 years, she is now 55. She is on work disability due to the damage it has done. She now has Gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying) and has steadily been gaining weight. Her Dr. wants to look into WLS. She believes the diabetes has done to much damage and WLS surgery would not help. Has anyone out there been in this situation and had WLS? Thanks for your help.

Last week in my Kaiser classes the nurse said they are now removing 9 out of the 10 bands . People are not losing the weight as hoped for with the band, and /or having complications.

Glad to hear your doing great. I was getting scared pictured you all hooked up IV's or roaming the streets in TJ..lol Wow by next week you will be passing me up on the scale.

Who are you to say you have the BEST surgery? Who are you telling people what to do. We need to cut your vocal chords on this site. You are very disrespectful to this site. Question for those who are sleeved.... When I had lost weight about 10 yrs doing low carb, low cal. I had a awful time sleeping because I would wake up so hungry. I would toss and turn, listen to my stomach growl until I would get up and eat something. Do any of you experience this with the sleeve?

I know I probably should have posted this in another topic area but I figured I get more input here. Thanks y'all! To Whom It May Concern, I am hereby requesting a reversal of the initial denial for the bariatric surgery(WLS) known as the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy/Gastric Sleeve (VSG) by BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. This request is made due to BCBS's assessment that my BMI is below 40. At my initial consult with Dr. Rantis, my BMI was 40.5. At that time, I met your requirement of a BMI greater than 40 without comorbitities. BCBS required that I follow a 3 month, medically supervised diet. In doing so, I lost weight and therefore, my BMI lowered slightly. To deny me for WLS because I followed BCBS requirements is profoundly confusing to me, not to mention unfair and devastating. I HAVE met the medical requirements to establish medical necessity for VSG. I am a 35 year old, morbidly obese female. I have been overweight or obese for my entire life, childhood through adulthood (my medical records prove this). While, I currently do not suffer from any comorbitties, it is just a matter of time until I develop the many disease that run in my family. Type II diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, arthritis and Cancer are diseases that are in my bloodline. It is not "if" I develop these horrific diseases but "when" will I develop these diseases. At my current state, I am a ticking time bomb. I have tried countless times throughout my life to lose the weight and keep it off. I can manage to lose a little bit of the weight but always gain it back and then some. Again, my medical records prove this. I have 3 young daughters and I need to be healthy and live a long time for them. I am confident that the VSG is the tool I need that will save me from the misery that obesity always causes. This surgery will open a new door in my life. I will no longer feel ashamed of my body and my health. I will no longer have to worry about the impending diseases I will most certainly face. I will not have to worry about about my children having to watch their mother suffer because of obesity. The surgery will allow me to live the life I have always wanted and deserved. I am asking for you to reconsider your denial and approve coverage of the VSG. (Remove >Please take a closer look at my request and approve for the VSG). ADD This is a formal request to file a grievance through BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois for Bariatric surgery which is being unfairly denied by BlueCross BlueShield . Attached find the BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois grievance form (Look on the Blue shield website for the form) form regarding a recommended bariatric surgery by my doctor, Dr. ____. He believes bariatric surgery would significantly benefitmy health. I am filing this as a “last resort” before filing a formal complaint with the Illinois Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan. This appears to be a classic case for an Independent Medical Review through the ICHIP. I would like to resolve this matter short of having to file a complaint with this government agency. I have always thought the sleeve was right for me and my medical problems, luckly I dont have diabetes yet. Most of the people in my Nut class are diabetics and are opting for the RNY. I was starting to doubt my choice last night, but I am sure I want the sleeve.

Thanks girls I really needed that sleeve re-enforcement tonight. I just came back from class (#10 of Kaiser options classes) I was really started to think maybe I am wrong and should have the RNY. One of the instructors has had the by-pass and almost everyone in the class said they want the by-pass too.
