4 months today - down about 53 lbs.

So today is the 4 month mark! the weight loss has REALLY slowed down for me but I guess my body is getting used to all of this. Biggest problem is the hair loss. I am almost bald on top and have cut my hair really short now - ala Twiggy back in the day! Or someone the other day said it reminded them of Sharon Stone when her hair was really short. Oh well, I'm fine with the short hair - just doing a little more eye makeup and big hoop earrings. . .LOL!

I know I need to focus more on exercising. My schedule has been a bit hectic with travel and even my normal schedule but I need to find the time to incorporate exercise into the schedule.

I saw my oldest son in Vegas on Tuesday when I was there for business and he walked right past me and didn't recognize me - partially because of the short hair but also because of the weight loss. So I guess that's a good sign :-)

Anyway, loving my sleeve and looking forward to when the hair stops falling out. I've bought 5 wigs already but can't seem to be able to wear one. I guess I'll hold out a little longer as long as I still have SOME hair on my head.

All in all, it is SO worth it! I might just end up being a skinny chick with a shaved head and great eye makeup!

I have had short hair before many times... so there ya go. I like your attitude. Out comes the makeup and earrings for sure!

Congrats Pam and your looking good. I so hear you about the hair thing, I'm starting to freak out. I know I have thick hair but my god it's thinning fast. Seeing my boobs are all but gone I cant lose my hair too, lol. Isn't that amazing when people don't recognize you??? It's mind blowing to me. Can't wait to see you in March and see how you look then biggrin.gif

Congrats. I think most of us decide to cut our hair - makes us a bit sassier in my opinion.

Plus, I cut off so much I lost a 1/2 pound! :P

Good Job! Consider the exercise your ace in the hole, it should help you start losing during the stall. I also decided that if I lose much more hair I am cutting it and wearing cute hats until it comes back in.

Congrats on the weight loss so far! You inspire me!

We all know about the "hair thing" but I love your attitude - short and sassy - it will grow back. I have fine thin hair already - not looking forward to what I know will soon come. But like you, I will just make may eyes "POP" with a little extra make-up, some big earrings and jewelry as a diversion! It will grow back eventually - but who is looking at your hair when they are noticing your amazing transformation?

Well done sleeve sister - keep up the great work and keep posting, I love following your journey.

Hugs!

Kim

Congrats on the weight loss so far, Pam! I'm with you on the Hair loss -- I still have my long hair, and I haven't gotten to the point where you can see scalp yet (I have super thick hair -- or maybe I should say had) so I'm waiting to see if it gets terrible . . . where did you buy your wigs?? I guess I should start thinking about that possibility - sigh.

Isn't it wonderful! My mom came to visit me this past Thanksgiving I went to pick her up at the airport (I had lost about 145Lbs by then) and my own mom didn't recognize me. . she just wandered away as i galloped behind her, coffee in hand yelling ma!!!! When she turned around and saw me there she just stared and asked "is that really you" Then of course in the next breath . . "what happened to your beautiful hair" ugh gotta love em!

Congratulations to you! You're doing wonderfully, keep up the good work! Only don't shave your head! leave that to Brittney Spears!

Kim ~ Thanks so much for your support! What a journey this is, huh?

Julie ~ I bought a couple of the wigs online at www.wig.com and a couple of them at a local wig store. I went into a wig store and asked a bunch of questions before I bought online because I had no clue what I was looking for or how to decipher the terminology!

ThinOneDay ~ Congratulations again on your fabulous weight loss! WOW! You have done an amazing job!

I was advised to take Biotin, disolvable B-12 and niocin to help prevent so much hair loss. Just a suggestion. I know that I am going to give them a go for sure!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
