I went thru the 3 week stall and now I'm in a 5 week stall......it is frustrating but I try and remember that before the sleeve I was in a lifetime stall........ I was sleeved on march 21 and weighed 258 on surgery day and am only down 238. Some people say well u coulda saved all that money and done that on your own but I couldn't of because I was a food addict. Idk I am upset but all I can do is try harder.

Tears of joy!!!! Because for the first time in about 10 years, my blood pressure was normal!!! And not the high side of normal, but textbook normal ( what my nurse said)!
To make my day even better, I have lost a total of 48pounds since day of surgery! That means I am a third of my way to goal!!
Now I have to seriously start thinking about getting active and joining a gym!
So, while I raise my Protein Shake to all my sleeve brothers and sisters, I say thanks for the advice and support you so freely dispense, and the motivation to keep on rocking my sleeve!!!!

I went to the mall with my family last Saturday and found my way to the Macy's men's department. I started trying on sport coats and suit jackets. The more I did, the more giddy I became. What a joy to stand in front of a mirror in good clothing and and look good! I wouldn't even go over there a couple months ago, nothing fit and a trial of depression was certain to occur.
A sales lady came over and I gushed out my entire WLS story to her. I don't know if she shared my enthusiasm or not, drunk people like me are more concerned with self expression than communication.
I didn't buy anything. At those prices I will hit my goal first. Got high nonetheless.
Sleeving is so very worth it!

    Update on status!
It has been several weeks since my last post. Well I am doing great, my scar are healing nicely as a matter of fact some are almost gone, I have been using Medema since the steril strip fell off and it has really helped. The biggest scar is still there but I feel it will be a little less visible in time. My diet is going well, I have not had any of the awful side effect that some people have reported. The last time I was on here I had only lost about 22Ibs, I haven't weigh myself in a couple of weeks because I was getting very frustrated when I notice the scale would move up a pound and then back down. So I figure I would only weight myself monthly. I can definitely tell I am loosing because my clothes are fitting me differently and I already had to give some of my big girl clothes to a friend. My only problem is I won't to get more active but my doctor told me I needed to wait 30 days, which will be April 28th, boy I cannot wait. I just want to start working on my arms and legs to build muscle. In my younger days I had muscle because I ran cross country and track. I just want to get back to lifting and instead of running I am going to invest in a bike. I heard it was better on your body.
Well I hope everybody is getting long well. Also NaturalRapadsody33 I saw your post regarding you gallbladder. I am glad to here you are out of the hospital and recovering. You take it easy and make sure you heal well. I will be praying for you on a successful recovery.

Shemy-away reacted to tasherie in 6 Weeks Out; Advice For The Newbies
Hi all! I am officially 6 weeks tomorrow! Yay! So I thought I would pass on some advice to those of you that pre-sleeve or just newly sleeved (newer than mine lol).
1.) Take it slow after surgery. Don't push yourself because you WILL pay for it in PAIN. At 6 weeks I am just now getting back to my normal energy level.
2.)Relax!! I know that we want this to work so bad and so fast that we freak out when something goes awry. You are going to have stalls..BUT if you stay on plan (Protein first blah blah blah) you WILL lose the weight. Some lose faster than others and every body is different. Just try to have a little patience and don't tie yourself to a scale. Inches still come off in a stall!
3.) If you feel something isn't right. Call your nurse or doctor and ask. There is no harm in asking and I am sure they have heard anything you can throw at them.
4.) Don't beat yourself up! There is going to be a day that you are going to eat something that you aren't suppose to. My personal opinion (yours may be different) is that I did not do this to myself to be on a diet for the rest of my life. I stay on plan but I do treat myself to a bite or two of something I like sometimes. I have still lost weight. Not fast, or slow but somewhere in the middle...And YES I can eat a little more than most (My surgeon used a 40 sized bougie) but NOT so much that my loss has been different. I can still only eat about a 10th of what I used to at any given meal. When you feel yourself freaking out..take a step back and look at everything you have gained (ie..smaller clothing size, ease of movement)...and all that you have lost (ie inches and pounds).
5.) Keep up on your Vitamins. In the beginning there is absolutely NO WAY to eat the amount and variety of food to get the recommended amount of vitamins/minerals your body needs. You WILL feel it, and not in a good way if you don't.
6.) Keep up on your water/fluid. You WILL feel it, and not in a good way if you don't.
7.) Get active! Sitting around bored will not help with head hunger! Do other things! Get a hobby! LOL
I am sure there is more that I could add, but I am leaving work and wanna go HOME! *whiney face lol and I am running out of time. Feel free to add what you would think is important to know.
33 pounds down and even though I am mad at myself that I had to do this and get here to lose weight it is the BEST thing I have ever done for myself. I can only see good things ahead. Good luck!

The number one ingredient to losing weight with the sleeve: Diligence. The second: Forgiveness (of the self). Every day you wake up is a new opportunity to get it right. Never give up! Perfection isn't going to happen unless you're Super Human. That... I never was.

I feel your pain. I am a slow loser naturally. I don't mind losing just a one pound a week, but I had a stall at 3 weeks that lasted 3.5 weeks and then all of a sudden, four pounds fell off. I was doing everything right and we all know that you can not sustain your current weight with the amount of calories you're actually putting in. I came into this forum to lament to someone and got the encouragement I needed to stop stepping on the scale and it'll all work out if you stick to the program. I would not make the "Biggest Loser" show very long, but consistent loss and many, many inches are on my side. Remember this is a marathon not a sprint and going to bed at night knowing that you've done your best will reap rewards.
Relax and enjoy the journey, I'm down about 27 lbs since my Dec surgery and just staring to get the compliments and really feeling the advantages of hauling around a few less lbs. It'll all work out for you.. The best of luck.

Shemy-away reacted to Suzannesh in Drinking Enough Water Everyday
    Hi Everyone,

I just want to make sure that you are drinking enough Water everyday. I know it is hard for you to get it all in, but you have to carry some water around with you all the time and just sip it. It is like having a job to make sure you get enough water in your body. Do the very best you can, it helps so much in your recovery.

Here are 8 simple things that you might enjoy reading about how water helps our bodies. By the time you are thirsty you are already starting to become dehydrated.

Keep up the good work and don't forget about drinking your water.

1.75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. this also applies to half the world population.

    2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.

    3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

    4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

    5. Lack of water, is the # 1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

    6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

    7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

    8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79% and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

    Hugs,
    Suzanne

I'm kinda stuck around this 206 mark and am guessing it will move at some point. Hoping anyway. I am getting anywhere from 700-1000 calories a day as intake but then my exercise drops it by about 300 so am confused if I am suppose to eat more to have a net of 1000 or what? My NUT is just that a nut - doesn't seem like she knows much more then me. All she says is to be low carb - keep them under 30. Well I am doing that.

Afro_Cyster it is my belief that God gave us our bodies as vessels. We are the keepers of them however, and it is our duty to do whatever is necessary to keep them healthy.
I had Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy to remove most of my stomach because I had to try to save my life. God supplied the means to have it done, all I needed to do was accept it and go forth by my Faith that God will see me through. His Promise to always provide is still True today.
Please understand that not having your gallbladder removed can be as serious as being fatal. Do what you have to, to save your life. You have the means. I'm praying for you, both that God will see you through this, as well as doing what you have to, to maintain a healthy body.

If you are pondering wether or not to workout today, consider this: How many MORE calories will you get out of your body by doing it! Think of them in Oz... It takes 3,500 calories burnt to equal 1 Lb. ;o) Yeah, sounds good now doesn't it? If I burn an additional 500 calories today by workouts alone, then I've burned off an additional 1/7 of a Lb of fat that I wouldn't have otherwise.

I only take the Bariatric Fusion chewable Multi-Vitamins right now. Supposedly they have all the calcium citrate, Iron and B-12 needed. I will have to take additional supplements if my blood work comes back showing deficits - I will find that out on my 3 month visit.

I can DEF tell that after my surgery my hormones are all out of wack! I never had much of a problem with pms but now i'm moody, cranky, i feel like i have no energy and worst of all i'm craving everything! It's like i'm never satisfied with food! I'm going crazy because at only 2.5 months out I don't want to start giving into cravings but I can't stop thinking about food (most notably chocolate, carbs and ice cream). I WISH food was making me nauseous!!!!!!!!
All I can hope for is that this will go away after my period is done....

You are not alone! I was your polar opposite when it came to my period prior to sugery. My gyn put me on a Mirena IUD just to get my very irregular period to stop. I had the IUDfor about 9 months prior to surgery and during that time my period was scarce. Since my sugery (11/21/11) my period has come every month and is coming almost like clockwork. All of my PMS symptoms are very different too. Before I would have the occasional backache or headache and maybe a good cry but now its like I'm a different person the week or two before. I feel almost everything associated with my cycle and I am very very moody. I think we have to adjust as our bodies are adjusting.
Prior to surgery my surgeon gave me suppositories in case I had nausea. You may want to ask about that or try a homeopathic remedy. I get nausea at certain smells too and that's without PMS and Aunt Flo. I'm sure the sensitivity of both your new physical changes and your period make this ten times worse. Hopefully things will get better as your body adjusts. Oh and I put a period tracker app on my phone that lets me track my symptoms and mood every day as well as tracking my cycle. That may help you get a handle on things before they start.
