  1. I absolutely agree! I am on here all day long. My posts have not been very positive ( mostly me aaking for reassurance or whining) but as I start to feel better I hope to be as helpful as all the other awesome bandsters.
  2. Not to worry...mine went from a bright purple to red and yellow with black brushing. My dr. said that it will go through a bunch of color changes. It is all normal but if it starts to look really red and starts getting swollen (mad), starts to have anything come out of it, gets really warm to the touch, or starts hurting really bad is when you should call the dr. But I think all of that is pretty unlikely.
  3. I have just started the mushie or soft food stage and I would live to hear what you really liked during this stage. I will be on it for four weeks.
  4. Man I hope no one says something like that to me. The day after surgery my mom thought it would be cool to introduce my grandma to the face time app on her iPod. So of course they call me and i am passed out on meds and not feeling good. My grandma promptly gets on to me for being asleep at ten in the morning and says that I'm not going to lose weight laying around. She has always been on my ass but that was pretty extreme.
  5. I was wondering if the port is directly beneath the incision or do they put it up past the incision. I have no idea where my port is yet... I was freaking out too much in recovery to ask.
  6. I has this problem before I got my band. It was very hard to pin point where the pain was or even describe it. I would feel like I had to go to the bathroom but could not and the pain would move from my front to my back and was anywhere between my chest to my lower stomach. It was consistent with gall bladder or kidney stones but it was not either. The dr. finally tested me for a virus in the intestines called H. Pylori. They put me on antibiotics and I did not have the pain anymore. (I had dealt with the pain for almost a year) might be just one more thing to possibly consider.
  7. I have just been banded and have not yet lost enough weight to have excess skin but I know that I will have a lot of it eventually. That was one of my major concerns with this surgery and I feel that when the time is right I will have the skin removed. With all of the work that we have to do to lose the weight why not take another step to better ourselves. That is how I think about it but it should be completely your decision. If you think it will make you happy then why deny yourself. But if you are not sure about it don't feel obligated at all because you are still gorgeous with or without the skin.
  8. I have not thrown up yet but I have been so worried about it. I'm sure it is bound to happen at some point and I don't want to freak out when it does. Does it hurt or feel different after the band? What are the chances of it making the band slip or the port flip? Do you need to call your surgeon immediately or is it ok to throw up once or twice? Is there anything else you can tell me about the throwing up "experience"? I live 2 hours away from my surgeon so I hope I never get sick because a two hour car ride while throwing up sounds terrifying.
  9. I am having the same problem. I am still on my full liquid stage but I am pretty much still doing clear liquids. I have a lotion like medication for the nausea but it is hard to tell if it works. I find that yogurt makes me feel a little better. I hope you feel better soon.
  10. I am starting to get a little bit scared about my recovery. I am actually feeling worse now than I was before. I feel sick to my stomach and it is making it extremely hard for me to get much of my liquids. I have only been doing the broth from soup and not the cream soup. Even typing the words cream soup makes me sick to my stomach right now. The meds I have for this don't seem to work that well although I have not thrown up. I can barely get any protein at all because the shakes gross me out and always have. My port site seems to hurt almost as badly as it did before and my insides just feel like someone punched me repeatedly. It seems like everyone else is doing so much better than I am a week after surgery.
  11. I had surgery on the 7th and everything went well. I did ok on the clear liquid diet and had no nausea. But I started the full liquid diet yesterday and I am now sick to my stomach. I have only been able to sip low fat yogurt without getting nauseated. I am not getting any nutrients other than that. I was wondering what you were able to have during your full liquid stage? I am so scared that I might throw up and make my band slip or something.
  12. Omg I am so gonna try these bullets. I loathe all of the protein shakes I have tried and it is a struggle not to gag while I drink them. I don't think I would mind little shots of protein though. So glad I saw this!
  13. My surgeon says that if you have a really hard time with thirst while you eat that you can ask for a glass of ice and anything that melts off the ice during the meal is ok to drink. It should only be a few sips and should not wash everything through. This can also get the waiters to leave you alone about getting a drink.
  14. I was wondering what experiences people have had when eating at resturants? Do any of you have the lap band cards that supposedly inform the resturant that you need smaller portions? How has that worked out for you? Do the servers get really confused when you try to tell them you have a band?
  15. I was also banded on thursday. I am still in some pain but it is getting better. But my big worry is that I am starting to feel sick ( sore throat getting worse and pain in lungs when breathing) I called my lap band office and they just said to go see my primary dr. if it gets worse. I am wondering if anyone else got a little sick after surgery?
  16. I want to have children. I imagine telling them that I dreamt about them and loved them before they were even born and did one of the hardest things I have ever had to do so that I could have them.
  17. I am in the same place. I have been running on a very dissociated motivation for the last couple of months. Not very excited about the band and sad because I had to get it. But before I started feeling like this I had done tons of research and I was very motivated to eat right and embrace the band. I just feel bad now about getting it but I wonder how much of my depression comes from the intense pain of the surgery and the fact that I have not actually eaten any solid food in a month. I hope I can be happy again and be happy that I got this band.
  18. I am on my second day post op. my shoulder and gas pains are pretty intense. I went to my follow up apt. this morning and everything seems to be ok other than a slight fever. They said it is normal but if it gets up to 101 then I need to go to the hospital. Congrats on your lap band! I'm glad you are feeling pretty good.
  19. Thanks you guys I was worried that something was wrong.
  20. Had surgery yesterday morning. They also fixed a hernia. The gas is not too bad but I am having a lot of pain near an incision. It aches when I am sitting but if I move at all it feels like my insides are ripping. Did anyone else feel like that?
  21. I have surgery at six. I didn't think I would be, but I am scared. My dad got severe brain damage during surgery when I was ten. He never remembered who he was or anyone else. He lived with the mental capacity of a three year old until he died in 2009. I know because the circumstance is completely different that the same won't happen to me but I am still scared. I hope this is worth it. I have worked hard to get to this. I have taken a lot of comfort from knowing that you all are out there.
  22. I have the same amount of time. I'm not even trying to sleep. I bet the migraine does have to do with lack of food...or stress. I have not felt sick during my whole three week liquid diet until today. I'm hungry and nervous so I think my stomach is acting up because of that.
  23. My surgery is on the 7th and coming quickly. I have done well on my three week pre op diet and have lost 21lbs. But I am concerned because everyone talks about how excited they are and I don't feel that excited. People seem to be motivated to start losing the weight as soon as possible but for me all I can think about is how badly I want to try to eat my favorite food if I can after surgery. I don't know why I feel this way I think it has just taken me so long to get here that I have lost focus. Did anyone else feel like this? (disclaimer: I will have this surgery no matter what and I am doing well and I know that I am changing my lifestyle from the old one to a new one)
  24. I am from Santa Fe but I would definitely do the drive.
  25. I am 11 days into my three week liquid diet. I will admit I have cheated a bit by having a small bite out of what ever my boyfriend is eating that day and I hope that won't ruin it for me. I have had a very hard time with this diet. I have list 15lbs so far. Not that I am hungry... I just have the worst cravings. I too am going to stay home while my boyfriend goes to a barbecue.
