  1. The amount of fluid in your band would be in your record from surgery, there is NO way that a prudent nurse would not look that up..seriously. To find out how much was in there would have been the first thing ..the other is she would have to just aspirate the fluid out with a 10 cc syringe and the answer would have been there. I was banded Dec 6 and have no fluid in my band, I won't have that added until in January AFTER I have healed.. I wish you LUCK!!
  2. I ended up having a hiatal hernia, which wasn't expected! So I was in the hospital for 2 days. I was off work about 10 days, which for some is too long, but just about right for me. I am still on a 20 lb weight restriction .But I go to the dr tomorrow for my first check up so I'll find out then how I'm doing! My doctor recommened about 2 weeks off, the port is sew directly into muscle so that' is about the sorest spot I have. To me it doesn't seem like you are off long at all...but everyone is different!
  3. Congratulations!! this is so inspiring!
  4. I did! But I guess since it is the weekend it's more lax..lol so I worried for nothing..
  5. So I go back to work tomorrow.. and you bet I'm a little nervous! I'm an RN in the ER. so...I already talked with my paramedics, they are going to do the lifting, I'm still resticted to 20 lbs for lifting. New rule, no fluids at the ER desk.. so it will be a long night of me running back and forth to the break room..*sigh* but I'll get thru this.. hello? I got thru precertification I can get thru ANYTHING. LOL Have a grand protein filled weekend!!
  6. Hello~~ Have you tried broth? I listed some different types of shakes in my blog..sometimes just a change up will halp satisfy you. I havne't felt hungry, just smells make me hungry.LOL like pizza, a hamburger cooking...etc. I just change it up with broth, or watered down creamy soups to help stave off the craving, not hunger..and it passes.. I was banded Dec. 6 and have my first post op visit next week. I can't go to mushie till then. Making the most of it! My dr allows anything that will flow easily thru a straw as a liquid... Cindi Iowa
  7. Mandy, I was banded on Dec 6. Pretty sure it's gas, I still have some there too, and if I don't drink enough fluids in the day, it seems to flair up. My dr advises not to exercise until at least a month out, just walking around the house, I have a Wii too, and she said NO...don't want to strain and move that band. So you unless your dr advises to do something other than walk..I wouldn't. Do some shoulder movements when you walk, when you take your shower let the Water flow on it. I used warm packs also when I was at rest and that helps too. Do you do an incentive spirometer? that helps too.. Do you take any pain meds? Cindi
  8. Thanks! I had a response last night too!!
  9. Your headache is probably dehydration.. drink your fluids~ it will keep you going!! Best of banding to you!!
  10. I feel pretty NORMAL today... 1 week post op.. down 18# and I might add.. HAPPY DANCE! Not totally out of the woods.. I still have a little tenderness at my button site, but the bleh bloating is pretty well gone.. I don't have that weak feeling, I put on makeup..SHOCK, my spouse will probably faint.lol Going to try a little shopping today..just a little..I know my limits. Chocolate Peanut butter cup 1 scoop chocolate protein powder 1 Tblspoon natural peanut butter 1 cup skim fat free milk 3 ice cubes Blend if you ever have a craving for sweets..this will fill the bill.. it is SO YUMMY~!!

Empowering....you have now claimed ownership of you..I may not know you, but I am proud of you!
  12. Also..Nausea and dizziness are a sign of dehydration!!
  13. OH yes I had the same bloat as you! Walk ..walk ...walk...and sip your amount of fluids too, I take in 64oz per day along with 60-80grams of protein. The walking is what will rid you of the bloat. They fill your belly with gas so they can see what they are doing when you get your band, and express as much as they can before they seal you up! My dr requires walking every 2 hours..it also keeps you from getting a DVT, so keep it up!Good luck~
  14. They are in the spice aisle, like around where they keep potatoe toppers, spice combinations etc..
  15. I was denied my first time..I jumped through every hoop there was, including a sleep study..twice!! I was devastated!! But when I called my Dr. they said that it wasn't uncommon to be denied the first time, not to worry.. So I made another appointment, discussed it all with my dr.. and 6 months later was approved. I just had my surgery on Dec 6. I can't see where you will have any problems, your ins co covers it, mine however did not. I had to jump thru the hoops to get it pre approved. Keep a positive outlook, you can do this!!
  16. So yesterday I felt awesome.. had a really great day all around! However, feeling so good, I didn't walk like I had the day before.. I didn't use my incentive spirometer like I had this whole week.. I thot to myself..yeah I'm a rock star.. woke up this morning.. I felt it..bleh So back to the grind.. they have you do it for a REASON.. keep on ...only looking forward!! so today I'm walking every hour for 5 minutes minimum.. incentive spirometer every 2 hours.. OH and 1 more pound down today..YAY!! Cinnamon Roll supremo 1 scoop Vanilla protein powder 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 packet Splenda ( or non sugar substitute) 1 tsp butter buds 8 oz water 3 ice cubes Blend oh YUMMMM and enjoy!! Happy band day to you!
  17. No there is no book, this is my lapband 'bible' that my surgeon gives you when you start your process with their office. You and I share our date of our surgery! You could use vanilla yogurt, add lime flavoring and have key lime pie too. I figure I might as well be creative and not lose interest like I've seen some do.. I want to be a winner with this!
  18. Today is an official blizzard..it is made of snow and not of ICECREAM. I woke up very early this morning, felt achy and like I had slept all wrong! Took a little liquid pain med slept a few more hours and walaa..I felt so much better! I start my day with sips of H2O, I find that if I start my protein too early I burp way too much! This is day 5 post op. My pain level is very low, seems to be just at the button site and no where else. My incision sites look really good, a few steri strips came off today too. TMI I'm sure.lol I'm going to try and post a new recipe every day from my lap band "bible", they are SO good and a nice change.. Just tried an awesome one today.. Strawberry pie: In a blender add: 4 ounces fat free milk 6 ounces light yogurt * I used strawberry 1 graham cracker 1 scoop strawberry protein mix Blend This provided 26 grams of protein! I will try and add a new one each day..I am now down to my pre surgical weight, plus a pound, so that feels good, I have an Ipod, added a free app that tracks my footsteps with music that I choose, so I go round and round to my faves!! Happy snow day to you all!
  19. Hi there, I was banded on Dec 6, so you are a little ahead of me. Lucky for me my surgeon provided me with a cookbook for different and flavorful additions to the protein. I just posted one today. All liquid until the 22 of Dec for me so I will be creative. I found sipping on chicken boullion or beef bouillion really helps when the rest of the family is eating chicken of beef, I don't feel SO left out.lol Happy banding to you!
  20. Thank you so much for your kind comments!! Determination and focus~ my new mantra! Wow Melody, I have to stay on liquids for 2 weeks post surgery! I guess every surgeon is different aren't they? I won't start pureed food until Dec. 22. The day after my first visit to the dr. What is so lucky is my surgeon provides us with a 'bible' of sorts for the surgery and all that follows, along with a HUGE recipe index. Just tried an awesome one today.. Strawberry pie: In a blender add: 4 ounces fat free milk 6 ounces light yogurt * I used strawberry 1 graham cracker 1 scoop strawberry protein mix Blend This provided 26 grams of protein! I will try and add a new one each day.. I am now down to my pre surgical weight, so that feels good, I have an Ipod, added a free app that tracks my footsteps with music that I choose, so I go round and round to my faves!! Cindi
  21. Today I am 4 days post surgery..today is my new tomorrow! I am feeling a little bit better than each of the days before this one.. I got through the pre-op diet with out maiming anyone for their food, or taking cheat bites.. I waited too long to get to this point to waste a single bite to ruin the surgery..well worth it.. The day of surgery I was surprisingly calm..even when they wheeled me into surgery..no jitters, the last thing I remember was take 2 deep breaths.. I woke up in recovery feeling a little woozy is all.. up to my room.. I had no pain.. I really still don't have pain, just some referred shoulder pain from the anesthesia. I had to stay an extra day due to a large hiatal hernia repair..something I was unaware that I had, and I had a large fatty cyst inside the hernia, very odd, but all fixed! I am doing all the right things..I can and will get through this! Although last night my spouse fixed pizza.. the smell was wonderfull.. but I sipped away.. yep I got through it!
  22. HI there, I too was banded on Dec 6, but had a huge hiatal hernia repair too. So I had to stay an extra day along with extra fluid due to dehydration..fun stuff. Still feeling kinda punk, walking every day tho, it's cold and snowy here so just in the house back and forth, but walking every hour for 5-7 minutes so that's helping. I have between 50-80 to loose, so today is the first day of the rest of our lives!!
